"I certainly would enjoy coming back," Brunell said. "From my perspective I think it's a good fit, and I just can't say enough about the team and the organization." As a player with more than 10 years experience, the Saints must offer Brunell a minimum of $885,000, a figure that would represent a pay cut. Neither the Saints nor Brunell's agent seemed eager to divulge where things stand between the player and the team at the moment.

Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the Carolina Panthers made one final attempt sometime in the past few weeks to sign impending free-agent DL Julius Peppers to a long-term contract. According to several sources, the Panthers made a last-ditch offer to their defensive end sometime shortly before they announced they would let him walk into unrestricted free agency. The offer was for somewhere close to $14 million a year, the sources said. However, Peppers declined and the Panthers promptly turned around and said they would not franchise him and would let him become a free agent.

"It's funny," Scott said. "I was hanging with Adalius Thomas for Super Bowl weekend. We're buddies from back in the day. He made it public that he's expressed interest in joining (head coach) Rex (Ryan). I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens' defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting."
