Edwards is in the final year of his contract, which is worth $1.65 million. The Jaguars claimed that contract when they picked him up off waivers Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is getting closer to a return to action and plans on throwing the ball in practice this week, according to the Detroit Free Press' Carlos Monarrez. "They've told me that I need to try to do some light throwing this week and see how it feels, and I'll kind of take it from there," Stafford said. "I'll throw a little bit probably tomorrow or the next day and see how it feels." He has lightly juggled a football during practice since his injury, and he has shown range of motion in his shoulder. "For me it's a whole new process. I've never really injured my throwing arm or anything like that. So I'm just taking it step by step, just trying to do what the doctors are telling me to do to get back as soon as I can."

QB | Dennis Dixon | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Dennis Dixon (knee) is expected to miss up to six weeks, but the team does not plan on putting him on the Injured Reserve list, according to The Associated Press.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch will remain the starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens, according to The Associated Press. "Guys have a great deal of confidence in him," head coach Mike Tomlin said. "He's a man who's taken advantage of an opportunity, and you've got to be happy for him. It's an awesome lesson learned for our young players, one I hope they're taking heed to. This league is about perseverance, this profession is about perseverance and taking advantage of opportunities when they're given. He's given them a shining, clear-cut example of that at this juncture."

The Buffalo Bills re-signed QB Levi Brown to an undisclosed deal Tuesday, Sept. 28, according to The Associated Press. Brown will be the third-string quarterback behind QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

QB | Derek Anderson | Arizona Cardinals | Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals QB Derek Anderson needs to be more consistent, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt, reports AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban. "Obviously I think Derek needs to improve," Whisenhunt said. "That's something he would tell you. I think he played a little better in the second half. He missed some plays in the first half that we have to improve on. We can"t leave them on the field. But the thing I like about Derek, he seems to make plays, especially later in the game, that are big plays for us. … We've got to get more consistent play out of Derek, but I think that's a process we have to go through." Whisenhunt also said Arizona needs to capitalize when big plays come up. In Week 3, Anderson rushed a throw to WR Larry Fitzgerald, who was covered by a linebacker, that could have resulted in a big play. Anderson completed 12 of his 26 passes for 122 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in Week 3.


Running Back

Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis said during a radio interview that he is not sure if he will start in Week 4 and does not know what his role will be in the offense, reports The Washington Post's Cindy Boren. "I have no idea, bro. I don't even think it really matters. ... When it comes to competition, I feel I'll outplay anybody. I feel with what I've done the last nine years you can tell the difference whether I'm in or out," Portis said.

RB | Ray Rice | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (knee) tweeted Tuesday, Sept. 28, that he would bounce back from his bruised knee ASAP, reports Edward Lee, of The Baltimore Sun. According to a source close to Rice, he is moving around like his typical self and the injury isn't that bad. The source noted Rice should be OK for Week 4. Head coach John Harbaugh, during his typical Tuesday radio show, didn't talk about it and did not field questions about the injury from the show's host or the callers.

RB | Danny Woodhead | New England Patriots | Depth Chart Tidbit
New England Patriots RB Danny Woodhead took on some of the role RB Kevin Faulk (knee) previously played in the Patriots' offense, reports Karen Guregian, of The Boston Herald. Woodhead scored a 22-yard rushing touchdown on his second carry during Week 3.

RB | Brandon Jackson | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said RBs Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn are good enough to help the Packers reach the goals they have this season, reports The Green Bay Press Gazette. He said rushing attempts isn't the only way for a team to gauge the productivity of their running game.

If St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson (groin) can't play in Week 4, the team could try to get by with a tandem of RBs Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston, according to Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Spagnuolo termed the play of Darby and Toston "real solid" in Week 3, and said he'd be fine with that combo if Jackson wasn't ready. "Based on (Sunday), yeah, how could I not be?" Spagnuolo said.

Arizona Cardinals WR Stephen Williams, an undrafted rookie free agent, may be the team's No. 2 receiver during Week 4 against the San Diego Chargers, reports Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic. Max Komar, also an undrafted rookie, will be the team's No. 3 receiver and rookie Andre Roberts will be the No. 4. WRs Steve Breaston (knee) and Early Doucet (hernia) will not be able to play.

Seattle Seahawks WR Mike X. Williams (shoulder) may not be available for Week 4, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. He was able to return to the team's Week 3 game, but head coach Pete Carroll described Williams as sore.

Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 4. He continues to rehabilitate his high ankle sprain.

WR | Jabar Gaffney | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
The Denver Broncos are the first team in NFL history to have four wide receivers with at least 10 catches, 140 yards receiving and one touchdown through the first three games of the regular season, reports The Denver Post's Mike Klis. WR Brandon Lloyd has 14 receptions for 339 yards and one score, Jabar Gaffney has 17 catches for 189 yards and a score, Eddie Royal has 17 receptions for 186 yards and a score and Demaryius Thomas has 10 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. QB Kyle Orton has been getting everyone involved after primarily just having his target locked on WR Brandon Marshall (now with Miami) last year.

The Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent WR Brandon Stokley (Broncos) to an undisclosed deal Tuesday, Sept. 28, according to ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen. The team thinks Stokley can become an effective slot receiver.
