The Cleveland Browns are unlikely to select Auburn QB Cam Newton in the NFL Draft, even though they will work him out, according to CBSSports.com. The only plausible scenario would be if they traded QB Colt McCoy in a draft-day deal, but that's quite unlikely to happen. The planned workout of Newton could certainly be a smokescreen. The Browns might be hoping teams drafting below them who seek a quarterback will make generous offers if they fear the Browns are interested in Newton.

The Carolina Panthers are not in love with University of Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert at this point and do not believe he is accurate enough outside of the hash marks or on deep passes, a source told Don Banks, of SI.com.

Strong Safety

SS | Troy Polamalu | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu (Achilles') was playing with an injured Achilles' tendon that was much worse than the team let on, according to sources, reports Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The injury occurred near the end of his interception return for a touchdown Dec. 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Polamalu, however, does not need surgery to repair the problem. He is getting treatment and rehabbing his injury in Los Angeles and is under the care of an orthopedic surgeon who is friendly with the Steelers' medical staff.
