by Cory J. Bonini on April 8, 2011 @ 20:11:51 PDT

Texas senior cornerback Curtis Brown is a midrange prospect at his position in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Brown posted 23 total tackles and one interception in 2010; his '09 campaign resulted in 44 stops and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. Brown has two career forced fumbles.

Strengths

  • Excellent defender in jump-ball situations - tremendous vertical jump (39 1/2 inches)
  • Durable
  • Plays faster than he times (officially 4.51 seconds in the 40-yard dash)
  • Curtis Brown, draft prospect
    Not elite but is respectable
    Adequate size (5-foot-11 5/8, 185 pounds)
  • Great closing speed and anticipation
  • Fluid enough to play zone in the NFL
  • Excels at man-to-man coverage

Weaknesses

  • Lack of production
  • Won't be mistaken for a ball hawk
  • Too high of a backpedal
  • Lacks physicality
  • Isn't a sound tackler
  • Struggles to shed blocks from bigger receivers

Expected draft placement

Brown's athleticism, special teams ability and fit for a team employing man coverage should lead to him being either a late second-round selection or early third-rounder.

The Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have shown interest in Brown.
