by Cory J. Bonini on April 14, 2011 @ 11:33:19 PDT

Miami (Fla.) senior Allen Bailey brings a versatile presence along the defensive line to the 2011 NFL Draft.

He was involved in 46 stops and 7.0 sacks in 2010. As a junior, Bailey posted 32 tackles and 7.0 quarterback takedowns.

Strengths

  • Tremendous athleticism
  • Positional versatility - can play end or tackle
  • High upside and potential
  • Allen Bailey, draft prospect
    Five-technique prospect
    Size (6-foot-3, 285 pounds)
  • Impressive lower-body strength (36 1/2-inch vertical jump, 9-foot-9 broad jump)
  • Very good speed in short area (1.66-second 10-yard split)
  • Lateral agility against the run
  • Strong lower body allows for anchoring
  • Able to stack and shed to disengage the blocker
  • Sure drag-down tackler

Weaknesses

  • Raw skill set
  • Better athlete than football player
  • Body control is questionable
  • Lacks awareness against the pass - rarely puts hands into passing lanes
  • Suffered a stress fracture in his back as a senior in high school

Expected draft placement

Bailey's size and ability to anchor should make him a 3-4 defensive end at the next level. He has the lateral agility to play containment and the strength to root against bigger blockers. Bailey figures to be a second-round pick in the draft, but he could slide into the early third.

The Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots have shown interest in Bailey.
