Quarterback

QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Free Agents
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was critical of the effort exhibited by some players during the Pro Bowl. However, New England Patriots OG Logan Mankins said he doubts there's a realistic way to ramp up competitiveness. "I don't know how you fix it," Mankins said. "You're going to give a little effort, but you're not going to get out of control. Some guys are free agents over there. You get hurt in a Pro Bowl and it's going to affect that contract with another team. Who would want to get hurt in a Pro Bowl and not be able to play the next season?"

QB | Trent Edwards | Free Agent | Free Agents
Free-agent QB Trent Edwards (Raiders) took a physical with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, Jan. 31. Edwards also worked out for the team two weeks ago.

QB | Tom Brady | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady heads into Super Bowl XLVI Sunday, Feb. 5, with losses in three of his past five playoff games, including Super Bowl XLII. He had two interceptions in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, and it was the first time in 10 years that Brady didn't throw a touchdown pass in a postseason game. Dating back to the 2007 season, Brady is 4-3 in the playoffs with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, but those numbers are helped greatly by his six-TD performance in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Denver Broncos Jan. 14.

QB | Alex Smith | San Francisco 49ers | Free Agents
San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith is unlikely to receive the franchise tag if the team and Smith's representatives are unable to come to an agreement, as the franchise tag for a QB is likely to pay in excess of $14 million for one season.

QB | Peyton Manning | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (neck) said he is feeling great in his recovery process, but he hasn't talked with owner Jim Irsay about his future with the team. "I really feel good. I continue to make progress every day," Manning said. "Everything that the doctors have told me has been on point, which is encouraging to me." He will have checkups over the next several weeks, and he is encouraged that he will return to play football.

Running Back

RB | Ahmad Bradshaw | New York Giants | Injury
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) will not take part in practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

RB | Ray Rice | Free Agent | Free Agents
The Baltimore Ravens have 13 impending unrestricted free agents, including RB Ray Rice and OG Ben Grubbs.

RB | Brandon Jacobs | New York Giants | Fantasy
New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs faces an uncertain future with the team after Super Bowl XLVI, even though he is under contract for next season. Jacobs has a roster bonus of $500,000 due in March. Jacobs has $4.4 million left on his contract next season. "I've never really thought about that, and it doesn't really bother me," Jacobs said. "I'm sure something is going to get worked out and things will be fine. I am playing in the Super Bowl for the New York Giants. And if that is the way it is, there is nothing I can do. I am trying to do as best I can to help this team win."

RB | Matt Forte | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said Tuesday, Jan. 31, that he will not allow impending free-agent RB Matt Forte reach free agency, even if that means slapping the franchise tag on him. The team would prefer to work out a long-term deal with the running back. Forte has hinted of holding out if the franchise tag is placed on him.

Wide Receiver

WR | Hakeem Nicks | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (shoulder) said Tuesday, Jan. 31, that the AC joint in his shoulder is feeling "a lot better this week." Nicks is expecting to have a good week of practice, and sounds like a certainty to play in Super Bowl XLVI Sunday, Feb. 5, against the New England Patriots. "There should be no setbacks. It's not sore or anything," Nicks said. "The rest helped out a lot with just my shoulder and just my body in general. I wouldn't miss (the Super Bowl) for anything."

WR | Plaxico Burress | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs said New York Jets impending free-agent WR Plaxico Burress wanted to re-sign with the Giants instead of going to the Jets when he became a free agent last summer. Jacobs also said Burress would like to return to the Giants next year. "I don't see him back with the Jets next year at all," said Jacobs, who speaks with Burress regularly. "I don't know what he's thinking, but I don't see that. They've got a lot of things going on over there, and I don't know if he wants to be part of that." Burress reportedly has serious doubts about QB Mark Sanchez, too.

WR | DeSean Jackson | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said he was proud of the way impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson handled himself in the team's last six games of the season. However, Reid was non-committal on whether he thought Jackson would be with the club in the long term.

Tight End

TE | Rob Gronkowski | New England Patriots | Injury
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle) said Wednesday, Feb. 1, he has done little running due to his ankle injury. Players often fall behind on conditioning after ankle injuries and, depending on the length of inactivity, it takes some time to get back into game shape. "That's what I'm wondering, too," Gronkowski said. "But the training staff has us doing things to keep it up like eating healthy everyday and making sure you're not eating trash. I'm just staying at weight and doing what I possibly can do to stay in shape."

Place Kicker

PK | Stephen Gostkowski | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots PK Stephen Gostkowski is hopeful to get his chance at a clutch kick in Super Bowl XLVI against the New York Giants Sunday, Feb. 5. "I just wanna win," Gostkowski said Tuesday, Jan. 31. "I want to be able to call myself a champion. If I get to make a big play, even better."

PK | Lawrence Tynes | New York Giants | Fantasy
New York Giants PK Lawrence Tynes, who is the only kicking in NFL history with two postseason overtime field goals, thinks about kicking the game-winner in Super Bowl XLVI. "You think about it," Tynes said. "We're at this game. It would only be right if I think about it. Of course, a lot of things would have to happen for that to come true, but you have to be ready."

Offensive Tackle

OT | Matt Light | New England Patriots | Injury
Updating a previous item, New England Patriots OT Matt Light (illness) said he plans to practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

OT | Sebastian Vollmer | New England Patriots | Injury
New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia said that OT Sebastian Vollmer (back, foot) will play in Super Bowl XLVI despite missing the team's last seven games. "He'll play. He'll play in this game at some point, whether we have Nate (Solder) outside or him at tackle," Scarnecchia said. "He's going to be out there, and thank God we've got him."

Guard

OG | Logan Mankins | New England Patriots | Free Agents
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was critical of the effort exhibited by some players during the Pro Bowl. However, New England Patriots OG Logan Mankins said he doubts there's a realistic way to ramp up competitiveness. "I don't know how you fix it," Mankins said. "You're going to give a little effort, but you're not going to get out of control. Some guys are free agents over there. You get hurt in a Pro Bowl and it's going to affect that contract with another team. Who would want to get hurt in a Pro Bowl and not be able to play the next season?"

OG | Ben Grubbs | Free Agent | Free Agents
The Baltimore Ravens have 13 impending unrestricted free agents, including RB Ray Rice and OG Ben Grubbs.

Defensive Line

DL | Ndamukong Suh | Detroit Lions | Injury
Former DL Warren Sapp thinks Detroit Lions DL Ndamukong Suh's (shoulder) surgery last offseason and the lack of an offseason workout program led to him having a down season in 2011. Suh had just four sacks and 36 tackles all season. "The thing that I think I affected him was he played such a power game, grabbing people, slinging them out of the way," Sapp said. "He had rotator cuff surgery. I had one on each shoulder, I kind of know what that's like."

Linebacker

LB | Jacquian Williams | New York Giants | Injury
New York Giants LB Jacquian Williams (foot) will be tested, but might end up being limited in practice Wednesday, Feb. 1. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Williams has made "very good progress."

LB | Lofa Tatupu | Free Agent | Injury, Free Agents
Free-agent LB Lofa Tatupu (Seahawks) (knee) sat out the 2011 season due to knee problems, but a source close to the situation says the player plans a comeback for 2012. "It was just injury-related," the source said. "He wasn't 100 percent and he didn't feel he was ready to go." Tatupu spent the season rehabbing his knee, working out and spending time with his family, which includes his infant son.

LB | Mark Herzlich | New York Giants | Free Agents
New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich has had a journey to Super Bowl XLVI unlike any other, which is why his reaction to arriving on site was unique in the game's history. "Two years ago, I was told I might never walk again," Herzlich posted on his official Twitter page. "Just WALKED off plane in Indy to play in (the Super Bowl). Take that (expletive) cancer." Herzlich had surgery in November 2009 to put a rod through his femur, and he was told he was never going to walk again. However, he returned to the Boston College football team in 2010 for his senior season, and he was an undrafted free agent addition by the Giants last summer.
