Quarterback

QB | Christian Ponder | Minnesota Vikings | Draft
Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder said he is excited with the addition of OT Matt Kalil in the NFL Draft. Ponder feels Kalil will provide the protection he needs to go through all of his reads. "It is huge," Ponder said. "A lot of time last year, it didn't necessarily have to do with the protection. A lot of times I wasn't comfortable getting to my third, fourth reads, checking the ball down. Instead of just checking it down when a guy is wide open, I'd just run ... That's something I have to get away from. It's easy to break the habit. It's just going to make it so much better having full confidence in the protection."

QB | Vince Young | Free Agent | Free Agents
There is no deal imminent between the Buffalo Bills and free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) after Young worked out for the team. He has already left Buffalo.

QB | Tony Pike | Free Agent | Free Agents
Free-agent QB Tony Pike (Panthers) will attend the Cincinnati Bengals' upcoming rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

QB | Drew Brees | New Orleans Saints | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New Orleans Saints have not made much progress in contract talks with franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees.

Running Back

RB | Toby Gerhart | Minnesota Vikings | Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart said he is preparing to carry the rushing load if RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is not ready to start the 2012 season. "I'm preparing to be the guy," Gerhart said. "I try to do that every year. But this year it's a little more prevalent. I'm doing everything I can to be here, work hard, work with the new guys we have coming in. I'm pushing everybody and getting pushed by other guys. Preparing to be the guy, depending on whether Adrian comes back."

RB | Darren McFadden | Oakland Raiders | Fantasy
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said he believes RB Darren McFadden can carry the football 25-30 times a game; however, Allen added a team needs a tandem to carry the load. "The running back position in this league, I think you have the ability to use different people. Because those runners take such a pounding on a play-in and play-out basis," Allen said. "Does (McFadden) have the ability to be the lead back? Absolutely and he will be. But we're going to have to find ways to spell him some, too."

RB | Chad Spann | Pittsburgh Steelers | Transaction
The Pittsburgh Steelers released RB Chad Spann and CB Antonio Smith.

RB | Frank Gore | San Francisco 49ers | Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore is expected to see his playing time decrease a bit this season because of the running backs the team added this offseason.

On draft day, first-round draft pick DE Shea McClellin was given jersey No. 99.

WR | Jabar Gaffney | New England Patriots | Fantasy
The New England Patriots' signing of WR Jabar Gaffney leaves the team with a crowded receiving corps. Gaffney joins WRs Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Deion Branch, Donte' Stallworth, Anthony Gonzalez, Chad Ochocinco and Julian Edelman. Welker will return as the No. 1 receiver. Lloyd figures to work on the other side. However, after that, it becomes less certain.

Guard

OG | Kevin Zeitler | Cincinnati Bengals | Draft

On draft day, first-round draft pick DE Shea McClellin was given jersey No. 99.

Linebacker
