Quarterback

QB | Troy Smith | Free Agent | Free Agents
Free-agent QB Troy Smith (Steelers) said he will continue to search for an NFL team, even if his future looks uncertain at this point. Smith was recently released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. "We'll just keep plugging and plugging," Smith said.

QB | Jake Locker | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker will have every opportunity to win the team's quarterback competition with QB Matt Hasselbeck. Although Hasselbeck reportedly is the favorite, head coach Mike Munchak wouldn't be setting it up as a competition for show. If Locker can prove to be accurate enough with his passing he's got a chance to start.

QB | Peyton Manning | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's arm strength is reportedly at 85-to-90 percent of what it was prior to his surgeries. Although Manning has shown improvement this offseason, he may never be fully recovered.

Running Back

RB | Stevan Ridley | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley may be considered the most likely candidate to receive the between the tackles carries this season.

RB | Cedric Benson | Free Agent | Free Agents
It would not be surprising to see the Oakland Raiders sign free-agent RB Cedric Benson (Bengals) at some point, especially if Benson's asking price is low enough and he is content with a backup role.

RB | Adrian Peterson | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday, July 3, RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is "right on course" in his recovery, but added the team will defer to doctors and trainers for any timetable. Frazier expects Peterson will want to be on the field when training camp kicks off July 27, but that doesn't mean he'll get the green light.

RB | Trent Richardson | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson is hopeful of coming in, serving as the team's workhorse, and ending his career as one of the franchise's best players. New offensive coordinator Brad Childress plans to use the 5-foot-10, 224-pound Richardson in similar ways to how he used RB Adrian Peterson and WR Percy Harvin when he was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. That includes plenty of carries and receptions out of the backfield.

RB | Derrick Ward | Retired | Transaction, Free Agents
Free-agent RB Derrick Ward (Texans) announced his retirement Tuesday, July 3, after nine NFL seasons. Ward's best season came in 2008 with the New York Giants when he rushed for 1,025 yards and a 5.6 yards per carry average. He finishes with 2,628 rushing yards and 12 rushing TD in 93 NFL games.

RB | Chris Johnson | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
St. Louis Rams head coach and former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said he thinks RB Chris Johnson will return to greatness in 2012. "I didn't watch all that much of him last year, but that kind of thing doesn't happen overnight," Fisher said. "C.J. is still a tremendously talented running back and he's still got a lot ahead of him."

Fullback

FB | John Conner | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets FB John Conner said Tuesday, July 3, that he expects the fullback to be a lot more involved in new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano's scheme. "(Sparano) really likes the ground-and-pound game, which is good for me, so we'll see. I knew a little bit about him, he was the coach of my team in the Senior Bowl, so I got a little taste of what his style was like," Conner said.

Wide Receiver

WR | Nick Toon | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
Fourth-round pick WR Nick Toon is the only unsigned draft selection for the New Orleans Saints.

WR | Chad Ochocinco | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco said Tuesday, July 3, that he plans to play in the NFL for several more seasons. "I'm going to play 'til I'm 40 years old, and this year I'm going to show the world I can," Ochocinco said.

Tight End

TE | Aaron Hernandez | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez could be ready to have a huge 2012 campaign. With opposing defenses focusing on fellow TE Rob Gronkowski, WR Wes Welker underneath and WR Brandon Lloyd on the outside, Hernandez has a chance to catch 100 passes and double-digit touchdowns. He did record 79 receptions last year despite missing some time due to injury.

TE | Brian Linthicum | Free Agent | Injury, Transaction, Free Agents
The New York Jets waived TE Brian Linthicum (quadriceps) Tuesday, July 3. The undrafted free-agent was sidelined early during offseason workouts due to a quadriceps injury.

TE | Jeff Cumberland | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets TE Jeff Cumberland (Achilles') is eager to get back on the field after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3 last season. He also wants to develop into the full package. "I want to look like a full tight end, not a receiving tight end or a blocking tight end. You look at me like, 'OK, he's a full tight end, he's doing the blocking, but he's also doing the receiving at the same time,'" Cumberland said.

TE | Fred Davis | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis is unlikely to be given a contract extension by the deadline Monday, July 16.

Place Kicker

PK | Josh Scobee | Jacksonville Jaguars | Free Agents
The Jacksonville Jaguars have resumed contract talks with franchise free-agent PK Josh Scobee.

PK | Matt Prater | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Denver Broncos PK Matt Prater's four-year deal is believed to be worth $13 million with a $3 million signing bonus. Prater kicked game-winning field goals in three straight weeks last year and led the league in touchback percentage (70.1). He has the highest percentage in league history from 50 yards or more.

Offensive Tackle

OT | Rodger Saffold | St. Louis Rams | Injury
St. Louis Rams head trainer Reggie Scott said OT Rodger Saffold (pectoral) is done with his rehab from pectoral surgery and is close to being cleared to play.

OT | Andrew Datko | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit
Green Bay Packers OT Andrew Datko (shoulder) has not seen game action since Sept. 24, 2011, when he was at Florida State, due to a troublesome shoulder. He appears to be healed, and he will wear a brace for the shoulder. Datko, who was a left tackle in college, said he alternated between the right and left sides during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. With the depth chart behind the starters wide open, the seventh-round pick has a chance to stick around.

Guard

OG | Andrew Tiller | New Orleans Saints | Transaction
The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms on a four-year contract with OG Andrew Tiller Tuesday, July 3. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Defensive Line

DL | Willie Young | Detroit Lions | Fantasy
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Tuesday, July 3, that DL Willie Young was a player who has made vast improvements and can help the team toward its goal of reaching the playoffs in a second straight season. Teammates added that Young's work ethic in the weight room has made him a better player and better conditioned.

DL | Kevin Williams | Minnesota Vikings | Transaction
Minnesota Vikings DL Kevin Williams is entering a contract year. There were reports there was an option for the 2013-14 season, but it does not exist.

Linebacker

LB | Bart Scott | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets LB Bart Scott has dropped weight, and he plans to play faster this season. He said that his only personal goals this season are to get better, play at a high level and make plays and help the team have a great year. He thinks the defense will be much better this season as a whole. "It's all aobut playing faster and playing and going and not just reacting all the time. Go in there, and we put the pressure on people. Like we did our first year. We came out, we blitzed, we didn't care. You pick it up or you didn't pick it up," Scott said.

Free Safety

FS | Nick Collins | Free Agent | Injury, Free Agents
The Washington Redskins are unlikely to sign free-agent FS Nick Collins (neck) after he had spinal fusion surgery last year.
