Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler was knocked by scouts early in his career for making poor decisions, but he has cleaned up the mistakes over the years. "(Cutler is) managing the game better," a league evaluator said. "He's not making as many dumb mistakes. He's not forcing the ball as much. In Denver, he was spraying the ball all over the place."

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said QB Mark Sanchez dealt with shoulder issues during the 2011 season but believes Sanchez has the arm strength to be successful. "He definitely has enough arm," Burress said. "He was battling some injuries last year, shoulder-wise that a lot of people didn't know about ... different things like that. But I think he really turned a corner."

Strong Safety

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said Monday, July 9, that long-term contract talks with SS Tyvon Branch are ongoing. Players who receive the franchise-tag designation have until July 16 to sign a long-term deal or else they are locked into their one-year deal until the regular season comes to a conclusion.
