As we continue to roll through the NHL season, it is time to once again take a run through the fantasy hockey waiver wire. With the shortened NHL season, injuries are playing a bigger role than they normally would, and thus wreaking havoc on fantasy leagues. Who are the players you need to know about that could help you win your week and ultimately your league?
Colin Greening, center, Ottawa Senators
The Senators are an interesting case, and Greening is a big part of that. Greening has contributed two goals and three assists over the past week and also contributed on the power play, collecting two points with the man advantage. Many people thought that when defenseman Erik Karlsson (Achilles') went down, the Senators would struggle, but it has been the exact opposite as Ottawa has not gone down since they lost their star player, and Greening has played a big part in this. Greening is owned in just 4 percent of all fantasy leagues polled and could provide scoring help to your fantasy team.
Matt Stajan, center, Calgary Flames
Stajan contributed three goals over the past week, and we may just be beginning to see s point scoring run for the Flames center. Stajan was moved to Calgary's top line and contributed right away with Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay as his line mates. If Stajan can stick on this top line, his fantasy value has to be considered much greater, and he could become a nice waiver wire addition for any fantasy hockey team. Stajan is currently owned in only 2 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
Benoit Pouliot, left wing, Tampa Bay Lightning
Pouliot has had a nice stretch over his past four games, contributing three goals and three assists in that span. Pouliot is also in a good situation, seeing ice time with names such as Steven Stamkos, Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier, and it appears the Lightning have finally turned things around a bit offensively after a miserable road trip. Pouliot is owned in only 18 percent of all fantasy hockey leagues polled, and he could be an excellent addition if your team needs scoring help.
Ben Bishop, goaltender, Ottawa Senators
With Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson out with an ankle issue, the Senators goaltending job has been handed to Bishop, and he has not disappointed. Bishop collected three wins over the past week while posting a 2.02 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. While no one is expecting Bishop to unseat Anderson when he is back to full strength, but ankle sprains can be tricky injury to come back from, especially for a goaltender. If you are looking for goaltending help in the short term, Bishop could contribute nicely to your roster. Bishop is owned in just 16 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
