Vance McDonald, TE, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have selected Rice tight end Vance McDonald with the 25th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Fantasy analysis: The 49ers lost Delanie Walker to free agency this offseason, and they run a lot of two-tight end sets that should put the rookie on the field quite often. McDonald is a pass-catching tight end, and his blocking skills need refinement. He is generally a good receiver but displays concentration lapses at times.

McDonald will have to make a big leap coming from Rice to the NFL. He will get to learn behind Vernon Davis, however, which could ease the transition. Walker was used a lot in pass patterns while Davis was staying in to block over the final six weeks of the season. It is feasible McDonald could be asked to do the same, although it may happen later in the year. For now, consider his fantasy value to be minimal. Look for a few big games here and there in 2013, but leave McDonald off your Week 1 roster.
