1B/3B Kevin Youkilis, New York Yankees
Youk almost back
A lumbar spine sprain has shelved Youk since April 27, but after playing rehab games with Double-A Trenton Wednesday and today, he's expected to return to the Yankees lineup Friday evening. Staying healthy will be key to how much he'll contribute the rest of the way.
He was likely hurting for much of April before landing on the DL, contributing to his un-Youkilis-like 5.6 percent walk rate. He was also striking out a quarter of the time. He's no longer the Greek God of Walks as he ages, but if he can stay healthy, he can be serviceable for a position at which you don't have the luxury of being picky.
OF Ben Revere, Philadelphia Phillies
Other than his stolen base contributions, we knew there wasn't much else to Revere's profile. Of his 42 hits, only four have gone for extra bases, and he's striking out way too much. Since May 19, though, he's hitting .333 with three steals and two doubles.
The slap-hitter extraordinaire continues to run whether he's atop the lineup or near the bottom. That shouldn't be ignored. Forty-stolen-base speed isn't always available on the wire, either. If stolen bases are your need, you need look no further than a single-category contributor like Revere.
