Quarterback

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Whether or not Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will play in Week 1 of the regular season has not yet been decided, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Griffin has said there is "no doubt" he will play, but the source says it is "premature" to talk about Griffin playing in the opener until he is cleared.

Fantasy Tip: There have been no setbacks, and Griffin wants to play, and he reportedly is on target to play. If Griffin cannot go against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Kirk Cousins would draw the start. Griffin remains a quality fantasy option on draft day, but be ready to have plenty of depth at the quarterback position just in case.

QB | Tyler Wilson | Oakland Raiders | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Oakland Raiders QB Tyler Wilson continues to lose snaps in practice to QB Matt McGloin, who is making a push for the third quarterback job behind QBs Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor. "There's still just a little inconsistency as far as accuracy issues," head coach Dennis Allen said. "He had some issues (Friday) just understanding where the protection was coming from. He's a rookie. Like a lot of rookies, he still has a long way to go and Tyler's continuing to work, and I think it's a good competition we have there between him and McGloin."

Fantasy Tip:

QB | EJ Manuel | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday, Aug. 13, that if a clear quarterback winner does not emerge, he will name a starter 10 to 12 days before the regular season opener. QB EJ Manuel looked good in his preseason debut Sunday, Aug. 11, and QB Kevin Kolb (knee) has been banged up and dealing with personal issues, too.

Fantasy Tip: It appears the job is Manuel's to lose, but it is also very early in the process. The two combatants have at least two more preseason games to show what they can do, and perhaps make Marrone's decision a little more difficult.

QB | Mark Sanchez | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has refused to name his starting quarterback between QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith for the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, Aug. 17. Ryan said he won't hesitate to wait until after the third preseason game to name the starter for the regular season. Sanchez hasn't separated himself from the competition as many had expected, even though he's seen the majority of first-team reps in practice the last two days. QB Geno Smith (ankle) also mildly sprained his ankle in the preseason opener. Privately, the team is hoping Smith can step up and win the job, but his play has dipped in the last week, possibly because of his injury.

Fantasy Tip: The longer this QB competiton drags on, the better chance Smith has of taking the job from Sanchez. That wouldn't be a surprise at this point. If you have to select one of these QBs as your third passer, Smith is the easy choice. He has the upside because he can make things happen with his legs.

QB | Blaine Gabbert | Jacksonville Jaguars | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne continue to battle for the starting job, with no real clear-cut leader in the race. Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said he is not necessarily disappointed, as long as both continue to improve. "We look at it is if they're continuing to improve, they're going to continue to stay close. If neither is improving, they're going to continue to stay close," Fisch said. Head coach Gus Bradley will inform the team Friday, Aug. 16, who will start the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip:

Running Back

RB | Pierre Thomas | New Orleans Saints | Injury, Fantasy
New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (undisclosed) is practicing Wednesday, Aug. 14. LB Junior Galette (undisclosed) is still out.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Le'Veon Bell | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
The Pittsburgh Steelers list RB Isaac Redman or RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) as their first-team running back heading into the second preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: We wouldn't worry yet, as Bell has been limited in practice due to a knee ailment. However, it's something to pay attention to over the next couple of weeks.

RB | Jamaal Charles | Kansas City Chiefs | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is out of practice again Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Alfred Morris | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris has been working to improve his pass protection skills during training camp.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Ahmad Bradshaw | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) said Tuesday, Aug. 13, that he is feeling 100 percent and ready for the start of the season. "Of, definitely," Bradshaw said. "We just want to take it slow, make it last the whole season." A likely scenario is for Bradshaw to make his preseason debut Aug. 24 against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Montario Hardesty | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (thumb) has been ruled out for the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15, against the Detroit Lions due to a dislocated right thumb. "We padded him up, and he was OK," head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 13. "He went out and did some individual drills in practice today, and we'll see about him for next week."

Fantasy Tip: Hardesty being sidelined is great news for Dion Lewis, who is trying to rise up the depth chart. Lewis turned heads in the preseason opener, and is a serious threat not only to Hardesty's job, but could potentially put Hardesty's roster spot in jeopardy.

RB | Rashad Jennings | Oakland Raiders | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Oakland Raiders are counting on RB Rashad Jennings to serve as the backup to RB Darren McFadden, and he tries to keep himself healthy and in shape in every way possible. He eats a gluten-free diet and sticks to organic foods. He also stretches every night, and has a regular routine of pilates, acupuncture, yoga and massage. Jennings also sleeps in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. "I love to practice and I love to stay on the field. It keeps you healthy. Playing this game is important to me," Jennings said. "The way I eat and take care of my body is pretty important."

Fantasy Tip: Jennings will back up Darren McFadden, who has never made it through an NFL season without an injury. Fantasy owners will want to scoop up Jennings later on draft day as a handcuff.

RB | Latavius Murray | Oakland Raiders | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen had an on-field meeting after practice Monday, Aug. 12, with RB Latavius Murray, a day after saying Murray has to be "accountable." He missed the past two practices due to an undisclosed ailment. "Latavius Murray had a couple of good runs," Allen said. "A couple of them got called back because of penalties, but one run down the sideline he ended up being able to lower his shoulder and finish off the run pretty good. I saw some good things, but he wasn't out here today so being available and being accountable are two things that we have to make sure we're able to be."

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Ryan Williams | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday, Aug. 13, that he has "absolutely no idea" when RB Ryan Williams (knee) will be able to return from his knee injury.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Andre Ellington | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (concussion) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Trent Richardson | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) will play "a couple of series" in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions, head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners would probably prefer to see Richardson rest another week and not risk a setback. It's probably a good move letting him get in there and see some game action, however.

RB | Curtis Brinkley | San Diego Chargers | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Chicago Bears signed free-agent RB Curtis Brinkley (Chargers) to a one-year contract Monday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Brinkley will battle Armando Allen (hamstring) for the No. 3 job behind Matt Forte and Michael Bush. Unless injuries decimate the Bears backfield, Brinkley and Allen have little to no fantasy appeal.

RB | LeSean McCoy | Philadelphia Eagles | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (knee) is expected to play in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: It is good news that he will see game action, but still, check back to see how he is doing next week before you pencil him in on your running back cheat sheets.

RB | Knile Davis | Kansas City Chiefs | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is dealing with a mild foot strain, and he wasn't walking with a boot or a noticeable limp Tuesday, Aug. 13. He rode a stationary bike but didn't participate in practice. "People are speculating Lisfranc and all that," trainer Rick Burkholder said of the mid-foot injury that caused problems for former RB Larry Johnson. "He doesn't have any discomfort there. I've had him see two orthopedic surgeons and everyone agrees he has a mild foot strain." There is no timetable for when Charles will return to action, but it's unlikely he'll play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16. RB Knile Davis took most of the reps with the first-team offense Tuesday, and RBs Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray are battling for the No. 3 job.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a late-round flier as a handcuff to Charles. The rookie can be explosive if given an opportunity. His touches will go up if Charles misses time, but even then, the Chiefs probably won't rely solely on him.

RB | Montee Ball | Denver Broncos | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball remains behind RB Ronnie Hillman on the depth chart. He played 11 snaps in the preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, posting five carries for just nine yards. Ball has received occasional carries with the first-team offense during this week's practices, but remains No. 2 on the depth chart.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Bernard Pierce | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (knee) was back on the practice field after missing two days due to a knee ailment.

Fantasy Tip:

RB | Lamar Miller | Miami Dolphins | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman indicated this week that RB Lamar Miller is not necessarily locked in as the top tailback on the depth chart over RB Daniel Thomas, at least not yet. "Yeah, I would say it's pretty close, the running back competition," Sherman said. "I thought that Daniel Thomas did a really nice job in the game the other day. Certainly Miller has had his shining moments as well, and some of the younger guys have stepped up."

Fantasy Tip: For fantasy purposes, it is still expected Miller will come out on top in the preseason battle. Miller has been going in the neighborhood of Round 4 in fantasy football drafts in leagues of 12 or more teams. That might be a tad too high given the relative uncertainty of his status on the depth chart.

RB | Arian Foster | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RB Arian Foster (back) is fine, but still bothered by back tightness.

Fantasy Tip:

Wide Receiver

WR | Cecil Shorts | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (calf), OT Luke Joeckel (hip) and RB Justin Forsett (toe) are out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip:

WR | Joshua Morgan | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins WR Joshua Morgan (cramps) was carted off to the locker room with cramps in his legs after practice Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip:

WR | Braylon Edwards | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards said Tuesday, Aug. 13, that he feels he can still be an "elite" receiver in the National Football League. "I'm starting to get into camp shape, that groove, that vibe," Edwards said. "Now is the chance to really go after it and really show these guys I still have it and that I can play at an elite level to help this team win games."

Fantasy Tip: Edwards might have tremendous confidence in himself, but he hasn't been productive in three years, so fantasy owners will want to take a pass. Plus, even if he shows improvement, the quarterback situation in New York is murky at best.

WR | Dez Bryant | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (shoulder) is being bothered by his right shoulder after he extended to make a catch over his head Tuesday, Aug. 13. He slammed the ball to the ground afterward and was rotating his arm.

Fantasy Tip: It's still early, but you hate to see a player with Bryan't ability injured. We don't know the extent of the injury, either, so stay tuned. If this were to linger into the regular season, Miles Austin could become a great value pick in drafts.

WR | Randall Cobb | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (biceps) is practicing through the pain associated with a biceps injury. "I have some pain," Cobb said. "I'm dealing with that. The hardest part for me is that I'm a tough guy. I don't like missing practice. I'm trying to be smart and tough and that's a little bit difficult for me. I understand I have some limitations and have to be smart about it, but it's difficult."

Fantasy Tip: While it is a good sign that Cobb has been able to practice through the pain, it is still something to keep an eye on as we get closer to the regular season.

WR | Santonio Holmes | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) is "desperately" trying to work his way back onto the playing field, and the team has been pleased with his work ethic.

Fantasy Tip: It's not looking good for Holmes' chances to be ready by Week 1. He's a risky draft selection, especially with the turmoil surrounding the team's starting QB situation.

WR | Hakeem Nicks | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (groin) is likely to play in the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: It is good news that Nicks is likely to get back on the field. Nicks has to prove he can stay on the field, and off the injury report.

WR | Keenan Allen | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (knee) left practice to get treatment on a posterior cruciate ligament injury that Allen suffered in 2012, according to head coach Mike McCoy. McCoy said the team wants to stay on top of the issue.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the team is just being cautious with Allen, but it is still something to keep an eye on, especially after Allen got more reps with the starters earlier in the week.

WR | Kenny Britt | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt (knee) has missed practice time due to swelling and soreness in his right knee, but head coach Mike Munchak isn't terribly concerned at this point. "We just have to be smart, because it is all about getting him to September," Munchak said.

Fantasy Tip:

WR | Malcom Floyd | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) won't return until at least Week 1, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd has been rather injury-prone his entire career, and if he's not up to speed for the early part of the season, Philip Rivers and the entire offense is in trouble. With no legitimate deep threat, the Bolts will have to rely heavily on aging Antonio Gates and fellow injury report frequenter Ryan Mathews.

Tight End

TE | Tony Gonzalez | Atlanta Falcons | Fantasy
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (personal) will return to practice Sunday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip:

TE | Ed Dickson | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) has been cleared for light jogging, and a source close to the situation thinks he'll be ready for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip:

TE | Konrad Reuland | New York Jets | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
New York Jets TE Konrad Reuland has reportedly had a solid training camp, and Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com feels Reuland has gone from being a bubble player to a guy who has earned a spot on the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip:

TE | Dennis Pitta | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh indicated Tuesday, Aug. 13, that TE Dennis Pitta (hip) hasn't been placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve list because the team wants to make sure he is actually going to be out for the season first. If the team is still optimistic by September, the team could stash Pitta on Injured Reserve, with a designation to return.

Fantasy Tip:

TE | Jordan Cameron | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron has practiced every day while remaining healthy in training camp, and it looks as though he's becoming a big part of the offense. "And he's played more physically, and he's worked hard. It's an interesting position because it's a very physical position. You get the ball in traffic a lot. I'm hoping he can become a guy that gives us the consistency we're looking for on third down plays," offensive coordinator Norv Turner said. Cameron worked on training methods to prevent injuries in the offseason and reached out to Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez for advice.

Fantasy Tip: Big things are expected from Cameron in Turner's offense, which should regularly involve the tight end catching passes. Cameron is flying under the radar in fantasy circles and could be a very nice steal as a TE2.

TE | Coby Fleener | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion and has begun the NFL concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Even though he currently has his own injury issues, Dwayne Allen would be next in line if the concussions issues linger for Fleener. Allen, who is expected to be ready for Week 1, should only be considered as a bye week replacement at this point.

TE | Dorin Dickerson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills TE Dorin Dickerson (ankle) did not practice Monday, Aug. 12, due to an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip:

Place Kicker

PK | Brandon Bogotay | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns PK Brandon Bogotay will be the only kicker the team uses in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15, against the Detroit Lions. PK Shayne Graham will get the night off. "It's a pretty tight competition," head coach Rob Chudzinski said. "We want to give him (Bogotay) an opportunity to be put in a situation where he has to kick them all. I want to see him make them all. Just give him a chance to show he can handle that."

Fantasy Tip: Whether the team opens with Bogotay or Graham, the winning kicker should be avoided for fantasy purposes on draft day. Only consider the Browns placekicker as a bye-week or injury replacement.

PK | Rob Bironas | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Tennessee Titans PK Rob Bironas (back) has missed practice time due to back soreness, but head coach Mike Munchak said he expects Bironas to play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Cincinnati Bengals. "We gave him a longer rest than he probably needed," Munchak said. "But there's no reason for him to come back any sooner."

Fantasy Tip:

Defensive Line

DL | J.J. Watt | Houston Texans | Fantasy
The Houston Texans are considering using DE J.J. Watt on their goal-line offense. "We might let him in there at some point," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "But it's not going to be anytime soon."

Fantasy Tip:

DL | Sheldon Richardson | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes DE Sheldon Richardson can do almost anything on defense. "This young man can almost do anything you can ask a D-lineman to do," Ryan said of the first-round pick. "When you look at him traditionally, as some people saw, he can be a three-technique, up-field type guy. Well, yes he can, but he can also do everything else. So I think he's not just limited to one style of defense. And that's why when we drafted him. I thought it was funny, 'Oh, hey, he doesn't fit the system.' Well, what system is that? Our system is multiple. We take advantage of guys' movement skills, we take advantage of the athleticism of our guys. So, to me, he certainly fits us."

Fantasy Tip:

Linebacker

LB | Pat Angerer | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Indianapolis Colts activated LB Pat Angerer (foot) from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 13. Angerer was the team's top tackler in 2011.

Fantasy Tip:

Cornerback

CB | Darrelle Revis | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Darrelle Revis (knee) said it is a possibility that he could play in the team's third preseason game. "That's a possibility if me playing Week 3," Revis said.

Fantasy Tip: It would probably be considered a huge surprise if Revis saw the field in any preseason game, as the risk far outweighs the reward in terms of a possible setback.

Free Safety

FS | Antrel Rolle | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, New York Giants FS Antrel Rolle (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle, and nothing more severe than that. Rolle is hoping to return before the end of the preseason. Rolle is in a walking boot, but has no thought of missing the team's Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. "I am going to do whatever it takes to make sure that is not even a possibility," Rolle said. "Treatment two times, three times, four times a day -- whatever it takes, I am going to do it."
