First Baseman

1B | Anthony Rizzo | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (illness) is back in the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Second Baseman

2B | Dan Uggla | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves 2B Dan Uggla (eyes) was able to take batting practice Tuesday, Aug. 20, for the first time since undergoing laser eye surgery Friday, Aug. 16. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Uggla will likely go back to Atlanta to get cleared by team doctors before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

2B | Logan Forsythe | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
San Diego Padres 2B Logan Forsythe has spent time at second base, third base, shortstop, left field, right field and as a pinch hitter in 16 games during the month of August.

2B | Maicer Izturis | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis (ankle) left the game Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the New York Yankees due to sprained left ankle.

2B | Howie Kendrick | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Howie Kendrick (knee) has been running, fielding and taking batting practice. He could be activated from the disabled list over the weekend.

2B | Emilio Bonifacio | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals OFs Jarrod Dyson and Emilio Bonifacio will platoon in center field with OF Lorenzo Cain (oblique) on the disabled list, according to manager Ned Yost.

Bonifacio could also be mixed in at second base to spell Chris Getz, if needed, so his extra avenues to playing time make him a little more valuable than Dyson in cavernous mixed universes. Both players are speedy and can give you stolen bases down the stretch.

2B | Elliot Johnson | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
The Kansas City Royals released 2B Elliot Johnson Monday, Aug. 19.

Shortstop

SS | Xander Bogaerts | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts will make his major league debut at shortstop Tuesday, Aug. 20, allowing SS Stephen Drew to take the day off. "We're looking forward to the Bogaerts era getting underway," manager John Farrell said. Farrell said he'll use Bogaerts to give other players a day off down the stretch. "Xander has over 500 plate appearances already in Triple-A," Farrell said. "So it's not like he comes to us and there's a mandate that says he's got to continue to get everyday at-bats." There will not be a platoon situation at shortstop between Bogaerts and Drew. Drew is hitting only .193 in 114 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this year, and Bogaerts hit .298 with a .926 OPS against lefties at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Bogaerts will play, but not every day. Owning him in deep mixed leagues is worth it, but it may be frustrating to own him in shallow leagues this year. Next year will be a different story, as he should be the team's starting shortstop.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (calf) is scheduled to play in another simulated game and run the bases Tuesday, Aug. 20. It'll be his first time running the bases since landing on the disabled list with a calf injury. There is still no timetable for Jeter's return to the team.

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (undisclosed) grimaced in pain during his final at-bat Tuesday, Aug. 20. It's unknown whether it's a groin or stomach issue. He has been playing through a strained lower abdomen.

The team has a healthy 5 1/2-game lead in the division, and it's possible Cabrera could receive more rest down the stretch.

3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (back) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the Boston Red Sox due to a sore back. SS Joaquin Arias slid over to third base and started in Sandoval's stead.

3B | David Wright | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) is planning on making a return before the end of the season, but there's no timetable on when that might be. He has yet to resume baseball activities. "I don't think in my mind there's any question," Wright said about a return. "It's actually probably a good thing, but the medical staff doesn't really give me too much of an outlying plan; that's really day by day. Again, much to my disagreement 'cause I like to plan things out and know where I'm going to be." He hasn't had any setbacks and is playing catch and hitting off a tee.

Wright is running out of time to return to the team, and he'll need to go on a rehab assignment before the minor league season ends in early September. Don't count on Wright making a significant impact for your team in the final month.

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
The San Diego Padres put 3B Chase Headley on waivers Tuesday, Aug. 20. CBBSports.com's Jon Heyman thinks there is a good chance that another team claims him.

If a team claims Headley, they'd have to work out a trade with the Padres. It's unclear if the Padres are willing to deal him after a down year in 2013. This is probably a long shot to happen.

3B | Mike Moustakas | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) is feeling much better, and he'll return to the lineup Wednesday, Aug. 21.

3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Transaction, Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP Ryan Dempster was fined five games Tuesday, Aug. 20, for throwing at New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez Sunday, Aug. 18. His suspension will begin Tuesday unless he appeals.

3B | Placido Polanco | Miami Marlins | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Miami Marlins placed 3B Placido Polanco (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 19, and recalled INF Gil Velazquez from the minors in a corresponding move. Also, OF Marcell Ozuna (thumb) was moved to the 60-day DL.

Greg Dobbs will likely take over as the regular third baseman until Polanco returns. With the season winding down, however, Polanco isn't a sure bet to return with a concussion. Dobbs is strictly an NL-only commodity.

3B | Luis Cruz | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
New York Yankees 3B Luis Cruz cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Monday, Aug. 19.

Catcher

C | Joe Mauer | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 20, after being scratched from the lineup earlier due to dizziness.

With Mauer on the shelf, Ryan Doumit and Chris Herrmann will serve as the backstops until Mauer is healthy enough to return. Herrmann might be worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues, while Doumit remains useful in AL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats, especially for his versatility.

C | Carlos Corporan | Houston Astros | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
The Houston Astros placed C Carlos Corporan (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 20, and recalled C Max Stassi and P David Martinez from the minors in corresponding moves.

Stassi is one of the team's top prospects, but he'll serve as the backup to Jason Castro. Only pursue Stassi as a power-hitting second catcher in deep AL-only setups.

C | John Buck | New York Mets | Transaction, Fantasy,
The New York Mets activated C John Buck from the paternity list Tuesday, Aug. 20. The team also signed free-agent Ps Mitch Talbot (Marlins) and Daryl Thompson (Twins) to minor league deals.

Buck returns to a different setup behind him at catcher. Travis d'Arnaud is now in the majors for good, so the two will split time for the rest of the season. d'Arnaud is the catcher of the future, so they'll try to get a good look at him. Buck is no longer a must-own in single-catcher leagues.

C | Yorvit Torrealba | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Transaction
The Colorado Rockies placed C Yorvit Torrealba (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion Monday, Aug. 19, and recalled 3B Ryan Wheeler from the minors in a corresponding move.

Outfielder

OF | Reed Johnson | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves OF Reed Johnson (Achilles') is still having problems running due to his Achilles' tendinitis. He continues to just take batting practice, and is hopeful he'll see improvement in his Achilles' before too long. The team is still hopeful he'll be able to return before the season is over. "It's not ready yet," Johnson said Tuesday, Aug. 20. "It's going to be a little bit I think."

OF | Justin Upton | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton (back) might be ready to return to the starting lineup as soon as Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. The skipper said Upton is dealing with a sore trapezius muscle, and it tightened on him while taking indoor swings Tuesday, Aug. 20.

OF | Cameron Maybin | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Cameron Maybin (knee) will get a second opinion on his left knee injury this week after being evaluated by team doctors Monday, Aug. 19. Manager Bud Black said there likely will not be another update on Maybin until early September.

OF | Kyle Blanks | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Kyle Blanks (Achilles') tested his injured Achilles' Monday, Aug. 19, and he felt no pain afterward. He said Tuesday, Aug. 20, that he would like to begin playing minor-league rehab games within the next five to seven days.

OF | Jose Bautista | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays placed OF Jose Bautista (hip) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 20, due to a bruised hip bone. He was pulled from the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees. "He felt it a couple of days ago. He didn't think it was that big of a deal, so he was able to play," manager John Gibbons said. "Standing around in the outfield, all those pitches aggravated it, so he went to get checked out."

With Bautista on the shelf, youngsters Anthony Gose and Kevin Pillar are expected to get a good look from the club. Gose is worth a look in AL-only play. It's uncertain how much time Bautista will be forced to miss at this point, and it's an unfortunate situation for fantasy owners in weekly leagues, since it is only Tuesday and he will be out the rest of the scoring period.

OF | Starling Marte | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 20.

OF | Yasiel Puig | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig was benched and fined by the team Tuesday, Aug. 20, for violating a team rule by showing up late to the game against the Miami Marlins, according to manager Don Mattingly. Mattingly had a closed-door meeting with Puig before the game Tuesday. Puig said he was stuck in traffic. "I'm satisfied with the answer, but it doesn't make it better," Mattingly said. "You've just got to leave earlier. You get caught in traffic or whatever, it's easy to say that but it's kind of like, 'OK, that's fine but you're still late.'" Puig is hitting .171 with 10 strikeouts and one RBI in his last nine games.

Puig is in a bit of a slump, and he hasn't come without his share of mental lapses at times this year. The Dodgers are making it known to Puig that they won't put up with it despite his rookie success. Perhaps his tardiness was related to the fact that he's performing in front of family in the Miami area. This shouldn't be a big issue, though. Expect him back in the lineup Wednesday.

OF | Mike Trout | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout (hamstring) is out of the lineup for the second straight day Tuesday, Aug. 20. He received treatment Monday, Aug. 19; he was a little sore but said the hamstring felt "a lot better."

Adjust your daily lineups accordingly, and it may be a bit before we see him back in the lineup, though it could be sometime near the end of the week. It's good timing for Peter Bourjos, recently back from the DL, to sneak in some at-bats for brief mixed-league utility.

OF | Justin Maxwell | Kansas City Royals | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Kansas City Royals activated OF Justin Maxwell from the bereavement list Tuesday, Aug. 20, and optioned SP Will Smith to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

OF | Oswaldo Arcia | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) is out of the lineup with a sore left wrist Tuesday, Aug. 20, and he's listed as day-to-day.

OF | Mike Morse | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners OF Mike Morse (wrist) missed his second straight game with a sore wrist Monday, Aug. 19.

OF | Marc Krauss | Houston Astros | Transaction
The Houston Astros optioned OF Marc Krauss to Triple-A Oklahoma City Monday, Aug. 19.

OF | Angel Pagan | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) could join Triple-A Fresno in the next few days. RP Jeremy Affeldt (groin) will throw off a mound in the next few days.

OF | Brian Bogusevic | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Chicago Cubs activated OF Brian Bogusevic (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 19. OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) will likely begin his rehab assignment next week.

Bogusevic should see semi-regular playing time after the Cubbies shipped David DeJesus to the Nationals yesterday. Consider him in deep mixed formats.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Adam Warren | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees P Adam Warren will make the start Wednesday, Aug. 21, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

SP | Tony Cingrani | Cincinnati Reds | Injury, Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani (back) left his start in the fourth inning Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a lower back strain. He said after the game that he still expects to make his next scheduled start Sunday, Aug. 25.

SP | Wandy Rodriguez | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,

SP | Thad Weber | Toronto Blue Jays | Transaction,

SP | Clay Buchholz | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) could make a minor league start for Single-A Lowell Sunday, Aug. 25, after throwing a setback-free simulated game Tuesday, Aug. 20. He'll next throw a bullpen session Friday, Aug. 23. "It's obviously taken a lot longer than I wanted it to or expected it to," Buchholz said. "If everything keeps going as everybody wants it to go, my body is going to well-rested for the opportunity to help our team make a push here towards the end of the season." The Red Sox are hoping to get Buchholz three minor league starts before the minor league season finishes.

SP | Carlos Torres | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Carlos Torres will stay in the rotation and start against the Detroit Tigers Friday, Aug. 23. SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) will have surgery in the next seven to 10 days to remove bone spurs in his right elbow and is likely to miss the rest of the year. Torres is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 22 games this year, but he went 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA in his three starts.

Torres gains some value based on the fact that he'll be in the rotation for a while, but nothing will be guaranteed once rosters expand in September. He's purely fodder for NL-only leagues.

SP | Ryan Dempster | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox SP Ryan Dempster won't appeal the five-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball for his actions Sunday, Aug. 18. He could rejoin the rotation Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Deep-league players saddled with him will be thrilled.

SP | Paul Maholm | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy,
Atlanta Braves SP Paul Maholm will make the start against the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, Aug. 22, to give SP Mike Minor extra rest.

This will probably only be a spot start for Maholm in order to ease up on Minor down the stretch. The start against the Cardinals isn't intriguing for a stream option, either.

SP | Samuel Deduno | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy,
Minnesota Twins SP Samuel Deduno (biceps) is dealing with biceps tendonitis and will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Aug. 21, to determine if he can make his start Friday, Aug. 23.

New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) was recommended to undergo Tommy John surgery.

If Hefner goes through with the surgery, he'll be out for the rest of this year and most of next year.

SP | Jenrry Mejia | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) will undergo surgery this month.

This will end Mejia's 2013 season. He can be dropped in all formats.

SP | Matt Moore | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) threw changeups on flat ground Tuesday, Aug. 20, and was pain-free. He will attempt to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Aug. 21.

SP | Daisuke Matsuzaka | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Cleveland Indians released SP Daisuke Matsuzaka Tuesday, Aug. 20.

SP | Jon Lester | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester gave up six hits, walked two and struck out three in 8 1/3 scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants Monday, Aug. 19. He has a 3.12 ERA in nine starts since the start of July and has walked 14 in 57 2/3 frames. Before that stretch, he had walked 24 over 47 2/3 innings for a 6.99 ERA. "I think anytime you go through some struggles, having a break helps," Lester said. "Pitch selection or mechanics or whatever it may be at that particular time, it felt like a good mental break for me, and I felt good when I came back."

Relief Pitcher

RP | Phil Coke | Detroit Tigers | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Detroit Tigers optioned RP Phil Coke to Triple-A Toledo Tuesday, Aug. 20. Manager Jim Leyland said the plan is for Coke to return when rosters expand Sept. 1. The skipper said the club isn't down on Coke, but the team wants him to work on locating his pitches better.

RP | Jason Grilli | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates RP Jason Grilli (forearm) continues to push in his rehab, working from the slope of the mount Tuesday, Aug. 20, after play catch on flat ground Monday, Aug. 19. "(Grilli) is doing really well. Moving forward at a very good fashion," manager Clint Hurdle said.
