Quarterback

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said QB Robert Griffin III's (knee) throwing mechanics are sound. "I'm pretty impressed with how Robert throws the ball," Shanahan said. "I think he's pretty good at it. I think he has pretty good technique, too. It's all about keeping your technique in the pocket when you're under duress… I think Robert is as good of a thrower as there is."

QB | Mark Sanchez | New York Jets | Fantasy
The quarterback competition between New York Jets QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith is too close to call, and it's unknown when the team will make a decision on a starter. Smith will start the preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday, Aug. 24, and he'll play into the third quarter with Sanchez replacing him after. The coaching staff won't commit to naming a starter before the final preseason game. "We could (wait until after) because, like we've said the whole time, we're not putting a timetable on this," Ryan said. "When we're ready to make that decision and we feel great about it as an organization, we'll make that decision."

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is comfortable with Sanchez as the starter but wants to see what Smith can do. "Mark has had a terrific camp," Mornhinweg said. "He's had a bunch of ups, and he's had some dips. Geno has had an outstanding camp for a rookie. He's had just a little bit more than a couple of plays in the preseason, so we'll see what happens."

Don't hold your breath here. The longer the team waits to make an announcement, the greater chance Smith has of winning the job. Smith will be rough around the edges if he starts in Week 1, but he clearly has more upside than Sanchez. Neither are worth drafting in standard leagues.

QB | Michael Vick | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he and WR DeSean Jackson are going to watch film together Thursday, Aug. 22. He said that's not something they did together in the past.

Running Back

RB | Ronnie Hillman | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman has gained 2.7 yards per carry this preseason and fumbled on the goal line in their preseason game last week. RB Montee Ball has a 3.4-yards-per-carry average, but he missed a block in pass protection that led to a big hit on QB Peyton Manning.

RB | Felix Jones | Pittsburgh Steelers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired RB Felix Jones from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for LB Adrian Robinson.

With Le'Veon Bell (foot) possibly out at least the first four games, Jones has a chance to put pressure on the underwhelming duo of Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman. Jones is a late-round flier or an intriguing waiver-wire option.

RB | Jonathan Stewart | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
The Carolina Panthers are optimistic that RB Jonathan Stewart (ankles) will be ready for the regular season opener, but ESPN's Adam Schefter believes it's probably not realistic.

The Panthers could place Stewart on the PUP and risk losing him for at least six weeks of the season. DeAngelo Williams will be the starting running back for any games Stewart misses, followed by rookie Kenjon Barner. It isn't wise to draft J-Stew until we have a clearer picture of whether he'll be ready for Week 1.

RB | Chris Ivory | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is expected to receive more playing time in the third preseason game based on his practice reps this week. Ivory had only six carries for 13 yards in the team's second preseason game.

RB | Knowshon Moreno | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno has been the most consistent pass blocker among the running backs and could receive more playing time during the regular season because of his blocking abilities. Moreno has been receiving reps as the third-down back as well as in longer-yardage situations.

RB | Ahmad Bradshaw | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), TE Coby Fleener (knee), TE Dwayne Allen (foot) and OG Mike McGlynn (knee) will not play in the team's third preseason game.

RB | Arian Foster | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (back, calf) doubled his workload in practice Thursday, Aug. 22; going from 10 reps to 20 reps. Foster is not expected to play in the team's third preseason game.

Good to see Foster heading in the right direction. While there is still some risk in selecting him with his injury issues, he is a first round pick in any format.

RB | Ryan Williams | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) will participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 22. The hope is he will be available for the team's third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 24.

RB | Doug Martin | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he was not sure if RB Doug Martin (head) would play in the team's third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 24.

RB | Le'Veon Bell | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) has a mid-foot sprain and will not require surgery.

While it is good news that Bell won't need surgery, he is still expected to miss a significant amount of time, and his draft value should reflect that moving forward.

RB | Maurice Jones-Drew | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) could play a quarter in the team's third preseason game, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

The team continues to work Jones-Drew back slowly, and as long as he keeps progressing, he will be one of the top fantasy football running back options in 2013.

Wide Receiver

WR | Sidney Rice | Seattle Seahawks | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said WR Sidney Rice (knee) will not play in the team's third preseason game but that he is being held out as a precaution. Rice is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

WR | Braylon Edwards | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards (leg) likely will not play in the team's third preseason game because he has missed practice this week with a leg injury.

WR | DeAndre Hopkins | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said WR DeAndre Hopkins (concussion) will not play in the third preseason game because he is still in stage one of the NFL's five-stage concussion protocol.

WR | Santonio Holmes | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
Some people in the New York Jets organization believe WR Santonio Holmes (foot) is healthier than he is letting on and is looking to avoid participating during training camp. Holmes has received clearance to resume football activities by a foot specialist in North Carolina but has not worked out yet. Some people believe Holmes said he will be ready to play when the regular season begins.

WR | Wes Welker | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (ankle) may sit out the team's third preseason game because he is still not recovered from his ankle injury. Welker did not participate in any team drills during practice Thursday, Aug. 22.

WR | Marques Colston | New Orleans Saints | Injury, Fantasy
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said he would lean toward sitting WR Marques Colston (foot) in the team's third preseason game, but nothing is set for sure.

WR | DeSean Jackson | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he and WR DeSean Jackson are going to watch film together Thursday, Aug. 22. He said that's not something they did together in the past.

Tight End

TE | Zach Miller | Seattle Seahawks | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said TE Zach Miller (foot) will not play in the team's third preseason game but that he is being held out as a precaution. Miller is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

TE | Dwayne Allen | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), TE Coby Fleener (knee), TE Dwayne Allen (foot) and OG Mike McGlynn (knee) will not play in the team's third preseason game.
