3B | Manny Machado | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado (knee) met with Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion Monday, Sept. 30, and the same recommendation was given. Machado will rest and rehab, and no surgery is required right now.

He finished with 44 home runs and 137 RBIs, which were better marks than last season when he won the Triple Crown and American League Most Valuable Player award. Cabrera fell short of Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis' 54 home runs and 138 RBIs. Cabrera is the first player to win three straight American League batting titles since Wade Boggs won four in a row from 1985-88. OF | Andrew McCutchen | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy

OF | Joey Butler | Texas Rangers | Transaction
The Texas Rangers designated OF Joey Butler for assignment Monday, Sept. 30.

OF | Andre Ethier | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (ankle) is unlikely to be able to play the outfield in the first round of the playoffs, and if he makes the playoff roster, it'll probably be only as a pinch hitter. OF Skip Schumaker is expected to receive more playing time as a result, and the team will consider moving OF Yasiel Puig to center field.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (shoulder, ankle) is likely to have touch-up surgery on his left shoulder in the offseason, but he's unlikely to need an operation on his injured ankle.

He joined Andres Galarraga, Larry Walker, Todd Helton Matt Holliday and Carlos Gonzalez as fellow Rockies players to win a batting title.

OF | Mike Trout | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout became only the third player in history since 1900 to have 190 hits, 100 walks and 30 stolen bases in the same season. Trout's 190th hit of the season came on a home run Sunday, Sept. 29. The other players to reach those marks were Ty Cobb in 1915 and Lenny Dykstra in 1993.

Starting Pitcher

SP | David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price threw his fourth complete game of the season in the American League wild card tiebreaker game Monday, Sept. 30, against the Texas Rangers. He allowed two earned runs, seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts, throwing 81 of his 118 pitches for strikes. Price had a 10.26 ERA in his four previous starts at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. He also had two key pick-offs to help his cause.

SP | Johan Santana | New York Mets | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The New York Mets will consider re-signing impending free-agent SP Johan Santana on a small deal in the offseason, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. The team will buy out Santana's 2014 option for $5.5 million. He has made only 109 starts since being acquired in 2008.

SP | Matt Garza | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Matt Garza would start the team's Wild Card playoff game Wednesday, Oct. 2, should they beat the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, Sept. 30.

SP | Matt Harvey | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
The New York Mets are hoping to see some tangible progress from SP Matt Harvey (elbow), who has yet to start a throwing program, very soon. "The fact that he's not throwing now, I wouldn't say is concerning, but we need to see some progress. I hope that he will be throwing shortly," general manager Sandy Alderson said at a news conference. "I want to emphasize this isn't a rehab program. This is a diagnostic program. We'll see what happens." Harvey chose rehab over surgery, but if he needs to undergo Tommy John surgery, he'll miss all of the 2014 season. He's currently working with physical therapist and is expected to move to Florida to start his throwing program soon.

Harvey will be a risk heading into the 2014 season if he avoids surgery in the offseason; rarely do Tommy John surgery candiates end up avoiding the procedure through rest and rehab. Be careful not to overpay for what he's unlikely to duplicate next year if he miraculously avoids a surgery.

SP | Freddy Garcia | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy,
The Atlanta Braves appear to be leaning toward using SP Freddy Garcia in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, if necessary.

SP | Mat Latos | Cincinnati Reds | Injury, Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SP Mat Latos (elbow) is dealing with a bone chip in his elbow that is causing pain, and he won't pitch in the team's Wild Card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, Oct. 1. The team is still hopeful, however, that his arm will improve with treatment over the next few days that will allow him to pitch in the divisional series should the team advance.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Jesse Crain | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Transaction,
The Tampa Bay Rays placed RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) on the 60-day disabled list Monday, Sept. 30, and recalled OF Kevin Kiermaier from the minors in a corresponding move.

RP | Koji Uehara | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,
The Boston Red Sox plan on using RP Koji Uehara for more than just three-out saves in the playoffs, according to manager John Farrell. "We're certainly willing to go more than a three-out save," Farrell said. "Hell, there might be a six-out save at some point. Going forward, yeah, we've done it before. Hopefully we're in positions with a lead in the eighth inning where we'll turn to him again." Uehara hasn't given up a home run since June 30 and has allowed only an earned run on 12 hits, two walks and 52 strikeouts in his final 40 1/3 innings.
