QB | Josh Freeman | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Fantasy
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have called about a dozen teams in an attempt to trade QB Josh Freeman. They plan to reach out to all 31 others by the end of Tuesday, Oct. 1.
QB | Michael Vick | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Monday, Sept. 30, that he has no intention of making a quarterback change and that QB Michael Vick played well in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos.
QB | Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill completed 22 of his 35 passes for 249 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 30. He also lost a fumble, and he was sacked four times. Tannehill has been sacked 17 times through the first four games, which is just 36 shy of the team record for a season with 12 games remaining.
Despite the success of the team through the first four games, Tannehill should still be treated as more of a QB2 in most fantasy formats.
QB | Terrelle Pryor | Oakland Raiders | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Monday, Sept. 30, he was comfortable with the decision to sit QB Terrelle Pryor (concussion) for an extra week, and Pryor won't be allowed to play until he is 100 percent. "He's got to be symptom free," Allen said, "whenever that point is. And we're going to continue to monitor him until he's symptom free."
QB | Drew Brees | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees recorded another 300-yard passing game in the Week 4 game Monday, Sept. 30, against the Miami Dolphins. It was his ninth straight 300-yard passing game, tying his own NFL record.
QB | Matt Schaub | Houston Texans | Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is being supportive of QB Matt Schaub after the team's disappointing loss in Week 4 to the Seattle Seahawks in which he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown for the third straight week. "I don't see a lack of confidence," Kubiak said a day later. "I see some poor decision-making situations. Something that he has to handle and something that we can help him handle." Schaub had 355 yards and two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions.
Schaub is at no risk of losing his starting job right now. Other than the two interceptions, he played relatively well against a very tough defense. Schaub remains a QB2 that can make a nice bye week filler with the right matchup.
QB | Brian Hoyer | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Updating previous items, Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer will remain the starting quarterback in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Oct. 3, even though QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) has been cleared to play after being out with a sprained right thumb. "I think he improved from the week before," Chudzinski said of Hoyer. "His decisions were very good. Just in talking him this morning, there were a few throws he would like to have made better. But you look at the drives -- we had some long drives we were able to string together because some of the things he did on third down, the decisions he was making and the guys were rallying around him."
QB | Geno Smith | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he will stick with QB Geno Smith despite his rough start against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. However, Ryan hinted that Smith needs to improve after turning the ball over a season-high four times against the Titans. Smith is tied for the league lead with 11 turnovers through four games. "You can't buy experience, but with that being said, we still have to do a much better job -- Geno, in particular -- of protecting the football at all costs," Ryan said, "You can't be nonchalant about it, you have to protect the ball." QBs Matt Simms and Brady Quinn are the other options, and Simms has zero NFL experience.
We warned you that Smith would have his share of bumps and bruises in his rookie season. Turnovers are part of that equation. His upside is evident, though, and with the right matchups, he could be useful as a bye week filler at QB.
QB | Jake Locker | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said he does not believe QB Jake Locker (hip, knee) needs to go on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list because the team believes he can come back in a shorter period of time and that they can keep him on the active roster.
QB | Christian Ponder | Minnesota Vikings | Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team's quarterback is Christian Ponder. Frazier also said the team had a lot of things to talk about over the bye week.
It is a surprise that the team would go back to Ponder after Matt Cassel had a strong outing in leading the team to its first win. It sounds like this is far from resolved at this point.
QB | Matt Flynn | Oakland Raiders | Fantasy
Oakland Raiders QB Matt Flynn fumbled twice, threw a crucial interception and was sacked seven times in the team's Week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins. It was the most sacks for a Raiders quarterback since 2006. "I don't think he saw the field very well," head coach Dennis Allen said. "Matt didn't play well, and we have to move on." Flynn led the offense to just nine first downs in the last 48 minutes of the game.
It's clear that Flynn won't get another shot at starting at QB if Terrelle Pryor (concussion) is healthy and ready to go. We fully expect Pryor to play in Week 5, unless he suffers another setback.
QB | Ben Roethlisberger | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (finger) injured the index finger on his right hand in the team's Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but he said the injury wasn't serious. Roethlisberger was 36-for-51 for 383 yards and a touchdown but also threw an interception and lost a fumble.
With the team's bye week upcoming, Big Ben should be fine for Week 6.
QB | Blaine Gabbert | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said he is more confident in QB Blaine Gabbert after watching film of the team's Week 4 game.
Even with the vote of confidence from the coach, Gabbert should be nowhere near a fantasy football team.
RB | Chris Ogbonnaya | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns FB Chris Ogbonnaya (thigh) was able to practice fully Monday, Sept. 30.
RB | Fred Jackson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 30.
RB | C.J. Spiller | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 30.
RB | Darren McFadden | Oakland Raiders | Injury, Fantasy
Updating previous reports, Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen refuses to say when the team might have RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) back, but he doesn't think the injury is very serious. "I wouldn't get into characterizing whether it's minor, major," Allen said. "He's got a hamstring (strain). I don't expect him to be out a long time but we'll see how he responds. I mean, it's one day after a game."
We already knew McFadden was injury-prone, so this comes as no surprise. You'll have to monitor his status this week before making the call as to whether to keep him in your starting lineup. Marcel Reece (knee) and Rashad Jennings could split the load if DMC doesn't play this weekend. Jennings is a must acquire off the waiver wire if you own McFadden or Reece.
RB | Eddie Lacy | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said RB Eddie Lacy (concussion) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 30.
It appears that Lacy is on track to play Week 5 after recovering from his concussion during the bye week. Owners should have him in their starting lineups this week.
RB | Arian Foster | Houston Texans | Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he was impressed with how RB Arian Foster looked during practice last week and was happy with how he played Week 4. Kubiak said Foster is starting to look like he did last season.
RB | James Starks | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Green Bay Packers RB James Starks (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 30.
RB | Bernard Pierce | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (calf) is dealing with a calf strain he suffered in the team's Week 4 game.
RB | Mike Goodson | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets RB Mike Goodson is eligible to rejoin the team for practice Monday, Sept. 30, after serving his four-game suspension for substance abuse.
Don't expect Goodson to be involved much in his first week back, even with Chris Ivory (hamstring) expected to miss another week. Bilal Powell has earned the lion's share of the touches, and Alex Green is in the picture for backup touches.
RB | Alfred Morris | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (ribs) said the X-rays on his injured ribs came back negative, but is not sure when he will be able to play again.
RB | Shonn Greene | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said he hopes RB Shonn Greene (knee) will be able to participate in practice this week but indicated Greene has some work to do before being ready to play again.
RB | Rashard Mendenhall | Arizona Cardinals | Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals RB Rashard Mendenhall fumbled twice and dropped a key pass in the team's Week 4 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he also scampered out of bounds late in the game when the team was trying to run out the clock. "Rashard had a very tough day and he can't play that way. He can't run out of bounds. He's a veteran. And to run out of bounds at the end of the game, that was probably the worst mistake he made all day. We need to practice him a little bit harder. I think we've been too easy on him in practice because of his injuries, and we need to hone him up more because he's not gaining anything," head coach Bruce Arians said.
Mendenhall has been dealing with nagging injuries, which has limited his practice time during the week. His play has been pretty disappointing, and Andre Ellington continued to look good Sunday. If Mendy continues to struggle, don't be surprised if Ellington gets more touches. Ellington is worth owning as a handcuff to Mendenhall in deeper setups.
WR | Aaron Dobson | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (back, neck) avoided major damage in Week 4 and is dealing with soreness in his back and neck. He underwent an MRI Tuesday, Oct. 1, and his status for Week 5 is unknown.
WR | Santonio Holmes | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) could miss a couple of weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 4.
This injury hurts Stephen Hill and Geno Smith's value. Holmes has gutted out a solid start to the season, despite obvious impediments. Holmes can be dropped in most leagues. Keep him on your watch list until he returns.
WR | Roddy White | Atlanta Falcons | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (ankle) played in 74 of 76 offensive snaps in Week 4.
He only had three catches but was targeted nine times. He seems to be progressing from his ankle injury.
WR | Damaris Johnson | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles WR Damaris Johnson has played just 15 offensive snaps this season, and he has not been targeted through the first four games.
WR | Terrance Williams | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams fumbled in the fourth quarter near the goal line in Week 4 against the San Diego Chargers. Head coach Jason Garrett called it an "effort play," and said the rookie has to learn from the experience. "He catches it short of the goal line, and he wants to get in, and he extends the ball, and one of the things he's going to learn as a young player is when you're in those situations, guys are fantastic at getting the ball out - it's a physical game, and they're going to knock the ball out," Garrett said. "So he'll learn from that experience."
WR | Josh Gordon | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (forearm) was listed on the injury report with a forearm issue, but he was also listed as a full participant for practice Monday, Sept. 30.
WR | LaVon Brazill | Indianapolis Colts | Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts WR LaVon Brazill is eligible to return to the active roster this week after serving his four-game suspension for substance abuse. However, the team has a one-week roster exemption for him, so it's unclear if he'll be activated for Week 5.
WR | Stevie Johnson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 30.
WR | Miles Austin | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said WR Miles Austin (hamstring) has made progress and may be able to play Week 5. Austin has been able to run on his injured hamstring.
Austin has dealt with hamstring in the past, so it is not known when he will be able to return. Owners should monitor his practice participation this week to get a better idea about his Week 5 status.
WR | Justin Blackmon | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon is returning in Week 5 after serving his four-game suspension for substance abuse. Blackmon led the team with 64 catches and 865 yards and five touchdowns last year.
WR | Stephen Hill | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Stephen Hill (concussion) is unlikely to play in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons after sustaining a concussion in Week 4. Hill has 13 catches for 233 yards and one touchdown this season as the team's second leading receiver. WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is also dinged up, and WRs Jeremy Kerley and Ben Obomanu or Clyde Gates would likely start if both Hill and Holmes don't play.
Hill and Holmes are both risky plays this week, for obvious reasons. Kerley is probably the only Jets receiver worth starting, but he doesn't receive a ringing endorsement.
WR | Kenny Britt | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt (ribs) expects to fully practice Wednesday, Oct. 2, after sitting out Week 4 because of his injured ribs.
WR | Leonard Hankerson | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins WR Leonard Hankerson started over WR Joshua Morgan for the second straight week and caught four passes for 49 yards during the game.
WR | Hakeem Nicks | New York Giants | Fantasy
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks said he knows there are plays to be made that he is not making, something he needs to improve on. "I know me, personally, there were some I'm supposed to come down with and nine times out of 10 I would," Nicks said.
"Just fighting during the play, just got to try to fight the other arm out and come down with it," Nicks said. "I'll be the first one to tell you those plays I'm supposed to come down with."
Nicks is finally healthy for the most part, but the time missed during the offseason still appears to not have his timing back with Eli Manning.
TE | Jermichael Finley | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 30.
TE | Marcedes Lewis | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) has not been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game but is not optimistic about playing in the game.
TE | Fred Davis | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis played behind TEs Logan Paulsen and Niles Paul during the team's Week 4 game and was only targeted once during the game.
PK | Sebastian Janikowski | Oakland Raiders | Fantasy
Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski has misfired on three field goal attempts through the first four games, and it appears the transition to P Marquette King as holder from long-time P Shane Lechler (Texans) is a work in progress. "We have to get more comfortable still with that duo," head coach Dennis Allen said.
PK | Billy Cundiff | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns PK Billy Cundiff (thigh) was listed as a limited participant for practice Monday, Sept. 30.
PK | Alex Henery | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said the team will be sticking with PK Alex Henery even though he has made only two of his five field goal attempts this season. "I do have confidence in him," Kelly said. "I know [special teams coordinator Dave Fipp] has confidence in him, I think he's a real accurate kicker. But from a kicking standpoint, I'm pretty confident in him."
