Jake Locker receives a prognosis

by KFFL Staff on October 2, 2013 @ 09:26:34 PDT

QB | Jake Locker | Tennessee Titans | Injury, Fantasy
Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (hip, knee) will miss four to six weeks with hip and knee sprains.

QB | Brandon Weeden | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) worked with gloves on both hands during practice open to the media Tuesday, Oct. 1. How he looks in practice this week will determine whether he is the backup to QB Brian Hoyer or the third stringer for the team's Week 5 game Thursday, Oct. 3.

QB | Christian Ponder | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team's starting quarterback job between QBs Christian Ponder (ribs) and Matt Cassel is up in the air because Ponder is still hurt, and he won't be re-evaluated until next week. "It's hard to be concrete when you know Christian is dealing with an injury," Frazier added, "so we'll see what happens."

The team will surely ponder their decision during the Week 5 bye, and we wouldn't be surprised at all to see Cassel starting again in Week 6, even if Ponder is healthy enough to return. Owning either as your backup QB probably isn't the best situation to be in.

QB | Ben Roethlisberger | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (finger) suffered a partial dislocation of his right index finger in Week 4 and was wearing a sleeve on his finger Tuesday, Oct. 1. However, the partial dislocation shouldn't be an issue for him. His injury is minor enough that he asked head coach Mike Tomlin to allow him to practice Tuesday.

With Pittsburgh's bye week coming in Week 5, Roethlisberger should have no problem getting on the field in Week 6. More serious injuries in the past haven't held him back.

QB | Josh Freeman | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano denied leaking confidential medical information to the media about QB Josh Freeman Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Running Back

RB | Ray Rice | Baltimore Ravens | Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the team would like to get RB Ray Rice more involved in the passing game Week 5. Rice was used often in pass protection during the team's Week 4 game.

RB | Fred Jackson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said he will definitely play Week 5 even though he is still dealing with soreness in his knee.

RB | Daryl Richardson | St. Louis Rams | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Rams RB Daryl Richardson (foot) said on Twitter that he isn't going to start in Week 5.

The Rams used a combination of Benny Cunningham and Zac Stacy last week, albeit very ineffectively. Isaiah Pead was a surprise inactive, and we're not sure if he'll be active this week. This situation is a mess, but they do have a very good matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Stay tuned for more details later in the week.

RB | Chris Ogbonnaya | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya (thigh) practiced in full Tuesday, Oct. 1.

RB | C.J. Spiller | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) will be a game-time decision in the team's Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Oct. 3, and he was walking with a heavy limp in the locker room Tuesday, Oct. 1, despite saying there is "not much swelling" in his ankle. "It felt good. To be honest, I didn't think I would be able to jog today. So that was an encouraging sign," Spiller said. "Tomorrow will be a huge day for us, to see what the reaction will be." RB Tashard Choice is expected to see more carries, and the team is even considering signing RB Ronnie Wingo off the practice squad for the game.

Everything is pointing to Spiller sitting out against the Browns, especially if Fred Jackson suits up. Consider Spiller an extremely risky and weak play in Week 5.

RB | Da'Rel Scott | Free Agent | Transaction, Fantasy
The New York Giants waived Da'Rel Scott Tuesday, Oct. 1.

This is good news for David Wilson owners, and Brandon Jacobs owners in deeper leagues as both will likely see more work as a result of this move.

RB | Eddie Lacy | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
The Green Bay Packers may go with a combination of RBs Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin in Week 5 against the Detroit Lions. RB James Starks (knee) is injured and may not suit up for the game. "I think as far as running style, it really depends on the game plan, who you are playing and how you rotate those guys in," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "Some people try to run certain schemes with certain backs. Some people play them differently based on personnel groups. Those are game plan questions."

Lacy is a must-start, regardless. Franklin should be owned in deeper leagues and is a risky flex play, since his workload will be a mystery.

Wide Receiver

WR | Danny Amendola | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) and WR Danny Amendola (groin) are practicing Wednesday, Oct. 2.

WR | Stevie Johnson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Johnson should be expected to play Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns. The matchup is a tough one, however, making Johnson more of a WR3.

WR | Kris Durham | Detroit Lions | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Lions WR Kris Durham played in 92 percent of the team's 66 offensive snaps in Week 4 win over the Chicago Bears and scored his first touchdown of the season with WRs Patrick Edwards (ankle) and Nate Burleson (forearm) out. Durham played two snaps less than WR Calvin Johnson and 20 more than WR Ryan Broyles. Durham finished with three catches for 58 yards, a career high for him. "It gives me some confidence," Durham said. "I think it gives Matthew some confidence in me. I was in the right place at the right time and made good throws, good catches."

Durham has short-term sleeper value with Burleson out if Edwards misses another game this week. The matchup against the Green Bay Packers is intriguing, too, especially if Broyles isn't exactly 100 percent up to speed.

WR | Malcom Floyd | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck), who will miss the rest of the season, does not need to have surgery on his neck at this time.

WR | Joshua Cribbs | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New York Jets worked out free-agent WR Joshua Cribbs (Raiders) Tuesday, Oct. 1.

WR | Dez Bryant | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is confident that WR Dez Bryant is the best he's been at any point in his career this year, and he thinks he should be getting more balls thrown his way by QB Tony Romo. Romo has completed 72.4 percent of his passes this year, good for third highest in the league, but he hasn't taken many risks, including throwing to a double-covered Bryant. "The same kind of throw you throw to him in the end zone the other day that he made that catch," Jones said. "He can make that catch with two people on him. You throw him the ball when he's double-covered. He's been thrown to when he's double-covered. You can do that."

WR | Justin Blackmon | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley had good things to say about how WR Justin Blackmon handled his four-game suspension. "He's done tremendous these last four weeks," Bradley said. "His body fat has dropped and his weight has gained. He's in really, really good shape right now. He's done everything that we've asked of him, he went on the trips with us. I could go with a list on some of the things we asked him to do that he's done, so he's a in a great frame of mind right now." Blackmon is likely to start in Week 5 against the St. Louis Rams.

Don't forget about Blackmon or pass him up because he plays for the Jaguars. He's the team's most electric receiver, and he could make an immediate impact this week against a weak Rams team. Cecil Shorts' value may drop a tad due to the return of Blackmon.

Tight End

TE | Rob Gronkowski | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) and WR Danny Amendola (groin) are practicing Wednesday, Oct. 2.

TE | Marcedes Lewis | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous item, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) said his calf strain was back to square one after aggravating it in Week 4, but head coach Gus Bradley isn't ready to rule him out for Week 5 against the St. Louis Rams. "He re-irritated his calf strain," Bradley said. "It's one of those things where he felt it on the second play of the game. It wasn't a pull like it happened before, he just felt it inside there. It was one of those things where we were looking at giving some treatment between quarters or taking him to the locker room but it was just irritated enough where we felt like it'd be best if he didn't play."

TE | Fred Davis | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) did not play a lot in Week 4 because he is still dealing with ankle soreness. Davis did not practice leading up to the team's Week 4 game.

Between the slow start and now the injury concerns, itís tough to consider him as a fantasy option at this point.

Place Kicker

PK | Billy Cundiff | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns PK Billy Cundiff (thigh), DE John Hughes (knee) and OG Shawn Lauvao (ankle) were limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 1.
