OF | Carlos Gonzalez | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) has chosen rest over surgery on his sprained right middle finger after he hasn't felt pain in three instructional league games. Gonzalez thinks his finger will heal naturally if he refrains from swinging until Dec. 1. "I went to Arizona, and played and it felt fine. It has gotten a lot better. I am going to rest it and I should be good to go for spring training," Gonzalez said. Surgery on the finger would have left his finger immobilized for six to eight weeks followed by four to six weeks of rehab. Gonzalez's finger didn't become swollen after activity in games last week, and he didn't experiment with changing his grip on the bat.
This is a risky move for Car-Go; if he suffers a setback late this winter and needs the surgery, he'll likely be sidelined in spring training and could miss the early portion of the season. Keep this in mind when drafting him in 2014.
