Second Baseman

2B | Matt Carpenter | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter has managed just one hit in 15 at-bats with a walk and six strikeouts through the first four games of the National League Division Series. Manager Mike Matheny said he feels it is just a matter of time before Carpenter finds his rhythm. "What he's guilty of is caring too much and feeling like he's got to do something extra special, and that's a trap that many young players fall into," Matheny said.

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said he's not comfortable giving impending free-agent 2B Robinson Cano a 10-year contract after he asked for a 10-year deal in excess of $300 million. "I don't feel this organization is ready to do something like that," Steinbrenner said. "No, I do not. We'll see. I know that is a number that is out there now. We'll see if he gets it, how much he wants to be in New York. But, again, I can promise it is going to be a very, very solid offer that we do make because we are going to try. We are going to try the best we can to keep him."

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera had a single in the sixth inning in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, Oct. 8. He has now reached base in 28 straight postseason games, a major league record.

OF | Ryan Sweeney | Chicago Cubs | Transaction, Fantasy
The Chicago Cubs re-signed OF Ryan Sweeney to a two-year, $3.5 million deal Tuesday, Oct. 8. He will receive $1.5 million in 2014 and 2015 with a $2.5 million option or a $500,000 buyout.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (shoulder) will have surgery to clean up the AC joint in his left shoulder Tuesday, Oct. 8, and he's expected to be ready for spring training next year.

Despite a lost year in 2013, Kemp's price tag probably won't come down all that much next season. Keep an eye on his rehab process in the offseason; shoulder injuries aren't very easy to come back from, and it's something that could impact his production early next year.

OF | Mike Morse | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles OF Mike Morse (wrist) will have surgery on his left wrist after receiving a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic. Morse was only 3-for-29 in his time with the Orioles and will be a free agent this winter.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Lance Lynn | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy,

SP | Shelby Miller | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Shelby Miller has been staying prepared in the bullpen in case he is needed, and manager Mike Matheny has not ruled out using Miller for a start should the team advance to the National League Championship Series. Miller estimated he would need just one bullpen session to transition back into that role.

SP | Justin Verlander | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
The Detroit Tigers will use SP Justin Verlander as their starting pitcher in Game 5 of the American League Division Series Thursday, Oct. 10, against the Oakland Athletics after SP Max Scherzer was used in relief in Game 4.

In three career playoff games against the A's, Verlander is 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA in 23 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts, including a shutout against Oakland last season in Game 5 of the ALDS.

SP | Doug Fister | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,

The Oakland Athletics are undecided on their starting pitcher for Game 5 of the American League Division Series Thursday, Oct. 10. Manager Bob Melvin is expected to choose between veteran SP Bartolo Colon and youngster SP Sonny Gray. The team is expected to use Colon.
