Quarterback

QB | Jason Campbell | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell will start in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

QB | Blaine Gabbert | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) has been cleared for full practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

QB | Cam Newton | Carolina Panthers | Fantasy
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has completed 35 of his 43 passes (81.3 percent) in the past two weeks, good for 446 yards and four touchdowns, without an interception. Carolina won both contests. He has completed 65.3 percent of his passes and has thrown twice as many touchdown passes as INTs this season. He credits improved preparation, aided by offensive coordinator Mike Shula, quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey and backup passer Derek Anderson.

Among the positive developments for Newton has been an enhanced ability to go through his progressions and get to his third and fourth reads. It's a work-in-progress, because Newton still holds on to the ball too long at times, according to head coach Ron Rivera, but he's seen progress.

As Rivera notes, Newton played only one season of major college football before he declared for the NFL Draft, so it's unsurprising that the third-year QB has taken a couple of years to mature. There are still questions about his makeup, but this is a positive sign for Newton's owners, particularly those in long-term keeper leagues.

QB | Sam Bradford | St. Louis Rams | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The St. Louis Rams will place QB Sam Bradford (knee) on the season-ending Injured Reserve Tuesday, Oct. 22, and will release OG Brandon Washington.

QB | Josh Freeman | Minnesota Vikings | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman will start in the team's Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers

Coming off a bad outing in Week 7, Freeman has no fantasy value at this point.

QB | Michael Vick | Philadelphia Eagles | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick (hamstring) said he expects to play in Week 8 against the New York Giants and that he could be at 80 percent for the contest.

Vick could easily suffer a setback in this game if he's not careful. However, if he's starting he should be good as a low-end QB1 against a Giants team that has been beat often this year.

Running Back

RB | C.J. Spiller | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

RB | Fred Jackson | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

RB | DeMarco Murray | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
The feeling is that Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (knee) will try to play in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions, according to beat writer Bryan Broaddus.

RB | Doug Martin | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) said Tuesday, Oct. 22, that his shoulder injury isn't necessarily of the season-ending variety. "No," Martin said. "Right now, I'm doing treatment on it with the trainers and taking it day by day and seeing how it feels. It's definitely gotten better. And my range of motion has increased day to day." The Buccaneers have not yet confirmed that Martin has tore his labrum and would be out for the season. Martin's left arm remains in a sling.

Martin is still not expected to play in Week 8, or for a very long time for that matter. It sounds like there is a sliver of hope he isn't done for the year, but Martin's owners and those needing help at RB should pound the waiver wire trying to secure Mike James.

RB | Arian Foster | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (hamstring) said he expects to be fine in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts after having a chance to rest up during the bye week. He aggravated his hamstring ailment in Week 7 after missing practice time with the injury the previous week. "It's coming along good," Foster said. RB Ben Tate (ribs) finished the Week 7 game in place of Foster, but he said he's dealing with four broken ribs.

Foster should be good to go against the Colts and should remain in all lineups if he's playing.

RB | Jonathan Stewart | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is expecting to return to play in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. He returned to practice for the first time Tuesday, Oct. 22, since injuring his right ankle Nov. 26 of last season. He will remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the team's game Thursday, Oct. 24. Stewart is expected to split time with RBs DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert when he returns, but head coach Ron Rivera said Williams will remain the "premiere guy."

Wide Receiver

WR | Calvin Johnson | Detroit Lions | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

WR | Danny Amendola | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

WR | Cecil Shorts | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) said he has a lot of pain in his shoulder, but it's better than it was last week. He intends to play in Week 8.

WR | Larry Fitzgerald | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday, Oct. 22, that he is leaning toward holding WR Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, to help the banged up veteran receiver heal.

We'll know more on Fitzgerald's status by Friday, when the official injury report comes out. Fantasy owners should have an alternative ready just in case, but for now start him as you normally would.

WR | Percy Harvin | Seattle Seahawks | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip), who returned to practice Tuesday, Oct. 22, could return to play in Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams Monday, Oct. 28, according to a league source. Whether he plays will depend on how his hip responds to practice this week. The team has three weeks to let him practice without activating him to the active roster.

We highly doubt that Harvin will suit up for the Monday night game against the Rams on Monday. If you've stashed him, however, you should be excited that he's ahead of schedule. The Seahawks will ease him in, though, so don't expect immediate production immediately.

WR | Mike Williams | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams (hamstring) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 22.

WR | Mohamed Sanu | Cincinnati Bengals | Fantasy
Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu is making key plays at key times for the Bengals. While Sanu has not scored a red zone touchdown yet this year, he caught a key pass in overtime of a game to convert a first down, and also has been used in a wildcat formation.

WR | Brandon LaFell | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Carolina Panthers WR Brandon LaFell (knee) practiced in full Tuesday, Oct. 22.

WR | Cordarrelle Patterson | Minnesota Vikings | Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson had an end-around and a season-high six targets in the team's Week 7 loss to the New York Giants Monday, Oct. 21.

He caught three of those six passes for just 22 yards, though. There is a glimmer of hope for Patterson, but until the quarterback situation improves in Minnesota, there's not much incentive to add him to your roster.

Tight End

TE | Jermichael Finley | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
A highly regarded spinal surgeon said that Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is unlikely to return without having spinal surgery. Wellington Hsu, an endowed professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and practicing surgeon with offices in Chicago, said that in most cases when a football player suffers spinal cord bruising it is a sign there is something amiss in the spinal canal that must be corrected. "If everything is normal there should be enough space in the spinal canal to absorb the force of that hit," Hsu said. "If there isn't enough space, then the spinal canal doesn't take the jolt very well."

TE | Anthony Fasano | Kansas City Chiefs | Fantasy
Kansas City Chiefs TE Anthony Fasano (ankle, knee) made his return to the lineup in Week 7 against the Houston Texans after a four-game absence, and he did not skip a beat. Fasano was used on 91 percent of his team's offensive snaps. Fasano nearly scored twice, but he was chopped down at the 1-yard line on a pair of catches. "I just tried to help any way I could," Fasano said Tuesday, Oct. 22. "Hopefully (the injuries are) over for a long time."

TE | Sean McGrath | Kansas City Chiefs | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Kansas City Chiefs TE Sean McGrath saw a significant drop in his playing time in Week 7 against the Houston Texans following the return of TE Anthony Fasano (ankle, knee). McGrath went from playing 87 percent of his team's offensive snaps in four games when Fasano was sidelined, to just 27 percent of the snaps in Week 7 against the Houston Texans.

TE | Fred Davis | Washington Redskins | Transaction, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis said in a radio interview Tuesday, Oct. 22, that he hasn't asked for a trade, but indicated he would not necessarily mind one either if it gave him a better chance to receive playing time. "At the end of day, I look at it as I'm a Redskin right now until I hear differently," Davis said. "I want to help my team any way I can until then."

TE | Greg Olsen | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) practiced in full Tuesday, Oct. 22.

TE | Dennis Pitta | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
The Baltimore Ravens are not expecting TE Dennis Pitta (hip) to return until mid-to-late November. Pitta is working out regularly but his return to the field is not imminent.
