First Baseman

1B | Justin Morneau | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Pittsburgh Pirates reportedly have little interest in bringing back free-agent 1B Justin Morneau.

Second Baseman

2B | Robinson Cano | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
The New York Yankees are currently engaged in talks with free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Cardinals), OF Shin-Soo Choo (Reds), SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox), OF Jacoby Ellsbury (Red Sox) and SP Hiroki Kuroda (Yankees), while eyeing RP Joe Nathan (Rangers) and Japanese import P Masahiro Tanaka. The team is doing so while pressing their own star, 2B Robinson Cano, for a meeting soon to figure out whether there is a chance the two sides can narrow a sizeable gap in their contract figures.

Shortstop

SS | Jhonny Peralta | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said in an e-mail that the team did not have any serious discussions regarding bringing back free-agent SS Jhonny Peralta, who eventually agreed to terms with the St. Louis Cardinals. He added that the team was set at shortstop and did not consider him for any other positions.

Third Baseman

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
San Diego Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said during a recent radio interview that the team is more likely to hold onto 3B Chase Headley than trade him or sign him to a contract extension.

3B | David Freese | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired 3B David Freese and RP Fernando Salas from the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, Nov. 22, in exchange for OF Peter Bourjos and OT Randal Grichuk. Grichuk was drafted a spot ahead of OF Mike Trout in 2009.

Catcher

C | Jose Molina | Tampa Bay Rays | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms with free-agent C Jose Molina on a two-year deal reportedly worth $4.5 million.

C | Carlos Santana | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana has been fielding ground balls at third base this offseason and could play third base during winter ball in the Dominican Republic.

C | Brian McCann | New York Yankees | Transaction, Fantasy
The New York Yankees have agreed to terms with C Brian McCann (Braves) on a five-year, $85 million deal, accompanied by a vesting option for a sixth season that could make it six years, $100 million.

Though questions linger about the long-term viability of McCann's plate discipline and right shoulder, this signing does wonders for his and the Bombers' lineup potential, especially with the short porch in Yankee Stadium's right field. Heading into his age-30 season, McCann, who missed the first month of 2013 and struggled down the stretch, will land among the first 10 or so catchers drafted in mixed fantasy leagues.

Outfielder

OF | Drew Stubbs | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
The Cleveland Indians are looking to trade OF Drew Stubbs this offseason. They likely will not release Stubbs.

OF | Josh Hamilton | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton will slide back from right field to left field, his natural position, following the deal which sent OF Peter Bourjos to the St. Louis Cardinals.

OF | Mike Trout | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout will return to the role of full-time center fielder following the trade of OF Peter Bourjos to the St. Louis Cardinals.

OF | Kole Calhoun | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun will be a full-time player in 2014 following the trade of OF Peter Bourjos to the St. Louis Cardinals. "He's a good baseball player. He does a lot of things well. He defends, he throws accurately, he's a good baserunner, he has patience, he gets on base, he has power. Last year he was able to show that those skills translate to the major league level," general manager Jerry Dipoto said Friday, Nov. 22.

OF | Collin Cowgill | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OFs Collin Cowgill and J.B. Shuck are expected to be the team's top two reserve outfielders behind OFs Kole Calhoun, Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout after the OF Peter Bourjos trade to the St. Louis Cardinals.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox are one of several teams who have made inquiries on Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp, according to major league sources.

OF | Andrew Lambo | Pittsburgh Pirates | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle indicated Friday, Nov. 22, that OF Andrew Lambo could get a shot to start in 2014. Lambo has been working at first base with Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League. The team's biggest holes are at first base and right field, and Lambo could potentially fill needs at both spots. "We need to make sure not to overlook the in-house pop we have," Hurdle said. "Is he ready? There's only one way to find out. He's got an aggressive swing, and a pretty good eye at the plate. His Minor League numbers obviously get your attention, and we'll look for opportunities to maximize that."

OF | Gregory Polanco | Pittsburgh Pirates | Fantasy
The Pittsburgh Pirates have holes at first base and right field, but OF Gregory Polanco could take over in right field as early as next July.

OF | Peter Bourjos | St. Louis Cardinals | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak talked Friday, Nov. 22, about the impact of the deal for OF Peter Bourjos, and what it means for prospect OF Oscar Taveras. "When you look at what this means for Oscar...," Mozeliak said. "It's still intriguing for us to (see) him on our club in some way, but clearly it takes a lot of pressure (off) him necessarily in center field. Our expectations are obviously for him to have a healthy spring training and sort of determine what makes the most sense. At the very least you look at this club now and it can change the complexion of the bench with more power off of it depending on who is playing on that given night."

The GM seems to hint there is a possibility Taveras could be used as a fourth outfielder, and that would obviously hurt his fantasy value. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that Taveras could start the year in Triple-A to keep him playing full time, too, and then come up if injuries open up a starting spot. There is still a lot to be determined, and fantasy owners in keeper leagues certainly want to hang onto the dynamic outfielder who has a really bright future.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Ubaldo Jimenez | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The New York Yankees are talking to free-agent SP Hiroki Kuroda, and a few mid-rotation starters, but free-agent SPs Matt Garza (Rangers) and Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians) aren't strongly in the team's mix.

SP | Dan Haren | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy,
Free-agent SP Dan Haren (Nationals) agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, Nov. 24, according to sources. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a 2015 option that vests at 180 innings.

SP | Bartolo Colon | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are interested in free-agent SPs Bronson Arroyo (Reds) and Bartolo Colon (Athletics) but do not appear close to signing either of them.

SP | Ricky Nolasco | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly interested in free-agent SP Ricky Nolasco (Dodgers).

SP | Jeff Samardzija | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Multiple teams have reportedly contacted the Chicago Cubs about trading for SP Jeff Samardzija. According to a source, the Toronto Blue Jays are one of the interested teams and they are putting together a package of young players in the hopes of acquiring him.

SP | Phil Hughes | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Miami Marlins have expressed interest in free-agent SP Phil Hughes (Yankees) and C Dioner Navarro (Cubs).

SP | Colby Lewis | Texas Rangers | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Texas Rangers have re-signed free-agent SP Colby Lewis to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Ernesto Frieri | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Jerry Dipoto said Friday, Nov. 22, in a radio interview that RP Ernesto Frieri will be the team's closer in 2014.

RP | Grant Balfour | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Seattle Mariners are interested in free-agent RPs Brian Wilson (Dodgers) and Grant Balfour (Athletics).

RP | Rex Brothers | Colorado Rockies | Fantasy,
Colorado Rockies RP LaTroy Hawkins will compete with RP Rex Brothers for the closer's role in spring training next year. Hawkins went 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA and 13 saves for the New York Mets in 2013.

Brothers performed well in his first taste of the ninth at the end of last season, and we fully expect him to win the job over Hawkins, who personally said he wasn't fond of closing out games last season with the Mets.
