Fantasy Football Daily Rundown: Monday, Dec. 9

by KFFL Staff on December 9, 2013 @ 05:57:47 PDT

Quarterback

QB | Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's 48-yard run late in the first quarter was the longest of his career and the longest ever by a Dolphins quarterback, surpassing the 33-yard run by Pat White at New England on November 8th, 2009. His previous long was 31 yards on December 23rd, 2012 against the Buffalo Bills. Tannehill also put together the ninth multi-touchdown pass game of his career and it's the third time he has done it in consecutive weeks.

QB | Geno Smith | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets QB Geno Smith delivered his best game in two months in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, throwing his first touchdown pass in seven games, and running for another while committing just one turnover.

QB | Drew Brees | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees surpassed 50,000 career passing yards in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers. He is just the fifth quarterback in NFL history to reach the milestone.

QB | Ben Roethlisberger | Pittsburgh Steelers | Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw his 213th career touchdown pass in the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins, breaking a tie with Hall of Fame QB Terry Bradshaw for the most in team history.

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan declined to name a starting quarterback for the Week 15 game against the Atlanta Falcons. QB Robert Griffin III was pulled during the Week 14 blowout against the Kansas City Chiefs, giving way to QB Kirk Cousins. "We'll talk about that later," Shanahan said Sunday, Dec. 8. "That's with anybody in any position. We'll look at injuries, we'll look at where we are and what direction we're going."

QB | Philip Rivers | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (neck) suffered an apparent neck injury early in the third quarter of the Week 14 game against the New York Giants. He was injured on a sack and fumble, and was being worked on by the training staff on the sideline.

QB | Jay Cutler | Chicago Bears | Transaction, Fantasy
The Tennessee Titans could have Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler on their radar if he leaves the Bears. Cutler is believed to be interested in returning to Tennessee if he is out in Chicago.

QB | Jake Locker | Tennessee Titans | Transaction
The Tennessee Titans are not expected to pick up the 2015 option on QB Jake Locker. That would put them in the QB market immediately.

Running Back

RB | Jonathan Stewart | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is believed to have suffered a serious knee injury in Week 14. He'll have an MRI Monday, Dec. 9.

RB | Daniel Thomas | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
The 55-yard run by Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas that set up a touchdown on Sunday, Dec. 8, against the Pittsburgh Steelers was the 11th offensive play of 50 yards or more given up this season by the Steeler defense.

RB | Eddie Lacy | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) said Sunday, Dec. 8, that his ankle bothered him during the Week 14 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was forced to leave the game for treatment in the locker room, but he was able to return. "I definitely couldn't push off of it as much as I wanted to," Lacy said. "I could feel it whenever I ran and, if I was healthy, I could have broken a couple of tackles. But I couldn't because I couldn't push off."

RB | Lamar Miller | Miami Dolphins | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. RB Daniel Thomas came on and posted 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

If Miller is forced to miss time, Thomas could re-emerge as a useful low-end RB2 or flex fantasy play going forward.

RB | Adrian Peterson | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (foot) is being diagnosed with a foot sprain, not an ankle injury as previously reported. Peterson admitted he has pain in his mid-foot area, and is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, Dec. 9, to determine if there's any Lisfranc damage. X-rays after the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens were negative. Peterson said Sunday, Dec. 8, that he does not believe the injury is of the season-ending variety. "Not at all. You should've seen me in here, trying to get back out there," Peterson said. "I kept my pads on throughout most of the third quarter, until I finally was like, 'I'm not going to be able to go'."

With Peterson out of the game, Toby Gerhart took over and had a solid stat line. If the team elects to keep Peterson out for any game action, Gerhart would be a tremendous fantasy replacement.

RB | Shane Vereen | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen carried three times for nine yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns, and he added 12 receptions for a career-high 153 yards.

Vereen has emerged as a stud in points-per-reception (PPR) fantasy formats, posting five or more receptions in each of his five games this season, and at least seven catches in four of his five contests.

RB | Reggie Bush | Detroit Lions | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) aggravated his calf injury during pregame warmups in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he did not play. Because Bush's injury happened so late, the team had just two active running backs, RBs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.

RB | Frank Gore | San Francisco 49ers | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) left the Week 14 game against the Seattle Seahawks late in the fourth quarter, apparently aggravating his ankle injury. He was able to return and finish the game after a brief absence. He ended up going over 100 yards on the ground, including a season-long 51-yard scamper to set up the game-winning field goal.

RB | Ryan Mathews | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews passed former RB Chuck Muncie for fifth on the franchise's all-time rushing yardage list in the Week 14 game against the New York Giants.

RB | Giovani Bernard | Cincinnati Bengals | Fantasy
Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard finished with 99 yards on 12 carries in the Week 14 game against the Indianapolis Colts, just missing his first career 100-yard game. He also added 49 yards on four receptions.

Bernard has emerged as a tremendous RB2 or flex fantasy option, especially in points-per-reception (PPR) formats.

RB | Toby Gerhart | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart carried 15 times for 89 yards and a 41-yard touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens, coming on for an injured RB Adrian Peterson (ankle).

Gerhart was highly touted out of Stanford, but he has been in the shadow of Peterson for his entire career. If Peterson is forced to miss time, Gerhart could be a sneaky fantasy player in the coming weeks. But there is no indication that Peterson's injury will keep him out.

RB | Ray Rice | Baltimore Ravens | Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice carried 17 times for 67 yards in the Week 14 game against the Minnesota Vikings, and he added five receptions for 42 yards.

It was just the second time since Week 5 that Rice posted more than 100 total yards from scrimmage. He remains more of an RB2 in most fantasy leagues due to his inconsistency and lack of touchdown scoring. He has just one touchdown over the past seven games.

RB | LeSean McCoy | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy finished the Week 14 game with 29 carries for 217 yards and two touchdowns.

RB | Stevan Ridley | New England Patriots | Fantasy
New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley is active for the team's Week 14 game.

Ridley is back after being inactive for last week's game. Ridley's participation is not known at this point, but owners would be taking a big risk if they used him in their starting lineup this week.

RB | Rashad Jennings | Oakland Raiders | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders RB Rashad Jennings (concussion) will not play Week 14 because of a concussion.

Marcel Reece likely will see most of the time at running back with Jennings out. Owners should consider him as a flex option in most leagues.

RB | Chris Johnson | Tennessee Titans | Transaction, Fantasy
The Tennessee Titans are expected to cut RB Chris Johnson after the 2013 season.

RB | Andre Ellington | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (knee) is expected to play in the team's Week 14 game.

Fullback

FB | Marcel Reece | Oakland Raiders | Fantasy
Oakland Raiders RB Marcel Reece had 19 carries for 123 yards in Week 14. One of them was a 63-yard touchdown run.

Wide Receiver

WR | Jeremy Kerley | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Jeremy Kerley (elbow) did not wear protective padding on his elbow in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders. He said Sunday, Dec. 8, that he took contact, but it wasn't as painful as expected. He was able to play 27 snaps in the win.

WR | Santonio Holmes | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) was able to play 41 snaps in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he posted three catches for 55 yards. Holmes said Sunday, Dec. 8, that he felt fine.

Despite the fact he looked healthier than perhaps at any point this year, he is still too risky to rely upon in most fantasy leagues at this important juncture of the season.

WR | Stephen Hill | New York Jets | Injury, , Fantasy
Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Stephen Hill (knee) was a late inactive for the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he has been bothered by knee swelling for several weeks, according to head coach Rex Ryan. "The young man has been competing his tail off, but he's just not himself," Ryan said. "He's not able to burst out of cuts. Quite honestly, as much as he wants it, it's best for us to make the decision to deactivate him this week."

WR | Vincent Jackson | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson had team-highs with three catches and 70 yards in the Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills, and he also hauled in a touchdown. Jackson went over 1,000 yards receiving for the second consecutive season.

WR | Antonio Brown | Pittsburgh Steelers | Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown went over 90 receptions for the season in the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins. He is just the second player in franchise history to reach 90 catches in a single season. Former WR Hines Ward accomplished the feat four times.

WR | Mike Wallace | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace played in his first game at Heinz Field in Week 14 since leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers during free agency this past offseason. He managed just two catches for 19 yards.

WR | LaVon Brazill | Indianapolis Colts | Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts WRs LaVon Brazill and Da'Rick Rogers each had two receiving touchdowns in the Week 14 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. Rogers was making his NFL debut.

Brazill and Rogers certainly look to have a bright future, but don't get too carried away with this one performance. Wait to see if they can duplicate their success before risking a fantasy roster spot on either of the receivers.

WR | Wes Welker | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) will undergo baseline testing Monday, Dec. 9, after suffering a concussion in the Week 14 game against the Tennessee Titans. Welker had five grabs for 61 yards and a score before departing. Even if Welker were cleared for activity this week with that exam, the league's protocol for concussions would preclude him from playing Thursday, Dec. 12, in the Week 15 game against the San Diego Chargers.

WR | Josh Gordon | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon posted 151 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the New England Patriots. He set an NFL record with 774 receiving yards over a four-game span.

WR | Tavon Austin | St. Louis Rams | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (leg) suffered an apparent left leg injury in the third quarter of the Week 14 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was injured after a long run, and was grabbing the back of his left leg.

WR | Cordarrelle Patterson | Minnesota Vikings | Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson hauled in five receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He also had four kickoff returns for a total of 111 yards, and he rushed six yards on one carry.

Patterson was a fantasy dynamo in formats which also reward individual return yardage, but for those in standard leagues he was pretty good too. He is emerging as an impressive long-term keeper option, and imagine how good he could be with an NFL caliber quarterback throwing to him.

WR | Keenan Allen | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (shoulder) returned to the Week 14 game against the New York Giants, and he promptly scored a touchdown before the end of the first half.

WR | Calvin Johnson | Detroit Lions | Fantasy
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson broke WR Herman Moore's franchise mark of 9,174 career receiving yards in Week 14.

WR | Percy Harvin | Seattle Seahawks | Injury, Fantasy
The Seattle Seahawks have not considered shutting WR Percy Harvin (hip) down for the season and expect him to return at some point this season.

Tight End

TE | Charles Clay | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay caught seven passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the team's 34-28 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Dec. 8.

TE | Jordan Cameron | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (151) and TE Jordan Cameron (121) each eclipsed 100 yards receiving in the Week 14 game against the New England Patriots. They're the first Browns teammates with 100 or more receiving yards in the same game since former WR Braylon Edwards (Jets) and TE Kellen Winslow (Jets) accomplished the feat in a game in 2007.

TE | Dennis Pitta | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) made his regular season debut in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings, posting six receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. TE Ed Dickson also had two catches for eight yards and a score.

Pitta is worth a look in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams going forward, as he can be a Top 10-15 option at his position when he is 100 percent healthy.

TE | Rob Gronkowski | New England Patriots | Injury, Breaking, Fantasy
Updating earlier reports, the New England Patriots believe TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) tore his right anterior cruciate ligament.

He'll have an MRI to confirm it, but the initial reports suggested the torn ACL. If so, he'll miss the rest of the year. Michael Hoomanawanui (knee) is also hurt, and the team may have to go with Matthew Mulligan. The team will likely have to lean on Shane Vereen, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman more the rest of the way. With Vereen so heavily used in the passing game, expect LeGarrette Blount and Stevan Ridley to split a chunk of the carries.

TE | John Carlson | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings TE John Carlson (head) left the Week 14 game with a possible concussion.

TE | Tony Gonzalez | Atlanta Falcons | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) is active for the team's Week 14 game.

Owners can consider Gonzalez as a low-end No. 1 tight end or a flex option this week.

TE | Jordan Reed | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 14 game.

Logan Paulsen likely will receive most of the time at starting tight end with Reed out. He should be considered as a flex option for desperate owners.

TE | Julius Thomas | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (knee) is expected to play in the team's Week 14 game.

With this final confirmation, it appears safe to get him back into your starting lineups.

Place Kicker

PK | Matt Prater | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Denver Broncos PK Matt Prater kicked a 64-yard field goal as time expired at the end of the first half in the Week 14 game against the Tennessee Titans. Prater sets the NFL record with the longest field goal in the history of the league. The old record was 63 yards, held by former New Orleans Saints PK Tom Dempsey, and several others.

Defensive Line

DL | Charles Johnson | Carolina Panthers | Injury
Carolina Panthers DE Charles Johnson (knee) said this week that he was not 100 percent leading up to the Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Linebacker

LB | Lavonte David | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Lavonte David recorded nine tackles (eight solo) with a sack, two tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions. David has at least one interception in each of his past three games, with four total during the span.

David has emerged as a must-start fantasy option in leagues which use individual defensive players (IDP).

LB | LaMarr Woodley | Pittsburgh Steelers | Depth Chart Tidbit
Pittsburgh Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley started on the right side in Week 14 against the Miami Dolphins. It was his first time starting on the right side in his career. Woodley finished with one solo tackle and two assists.

LB | Sio Moore | Oakland Raiders | Injury
Oakland Raiders LB Sio Moore (neck) suffered a neck injury in the Week 14 game against the New York Jets.

LB | Sean Weatherspoon | Atlanta Falcons | Injury
Atlanta Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the team's Week 14 game and is considered questionable to return.

Cornerback

CB | Antonio Cromartie | New York Jets | Injury
New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie (head) suffered a head injury in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders.

CB | Terence Newman | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals CB Terence Newman (knee) was on crutches after the Week 14 game against the Indianapolis Colts due to his left knee injury.

CB | Xavier Rhodes | Minnesota Vikings | Injury
Minnesota Vikings CB Xavier Rhodes (ankle) is out of the Week 14 game due to an ankle injury.

CB | Alfonzo Dennard | New England Patriots | Injury
New England Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury in the team's Week 14 game and is considered questionable for Week 14.

Strong Safety

SS | Troy Polamalu | Pittsburgh Steelers | Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu's 19-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins was the fifth defensive touchdown of his career, one shy of the franchise record held by Rod Woodson. Three others also scored five defensive touchdowns -- Carnell Lake, Dwayne Woodruff and Jack Butler. The interception was the 32nd of Polamalu's career, tying him with Jack Ham and Darren Perry for seventh most in team history.

Free Safety

FS | Jairus Byrd | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Buffalo Bills FS Jairus Byrd recorded his 22nd career interception in the Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, moving into a tie for 10th place on the franchise's all-time list.

FS | Thomas DeCoud | Atlanta Falcons | Injury
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons FS Thomas DeCoud (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers and he was unable to return.

FS | Tyrann Mathieu | Arizona Cardinals | Injury
Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Sunday, Dec. 8, that FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) appears to have a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
