Fantasy Football Daily Rundown: Wednesday, Dec. 11

Quarterback

QB | Matt Cassel | Minnesota Vikings | Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Matt Cassel will start Week 15.

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III did not receive any snaps during the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Dec. 11. QB Kirk Cousins received the first snaps during practice and was followed by QB Rex Grossman.

QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Medical experts believe Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to be cleared to play in Week 15 because he is less than six weeks removed from suffering his broken collarbone. Complete bone formation typically takes eight to 10 weeks, meaning he'd be risking more serious injury if he played before the eight weeks. The Packers' medical staff is among the most conservative in the league in returning players to the field too soon. "We would need different results and different responses to be able to get on the field this week," Rodgers said.

It's looking highly unlikely that Rodgers plays this weekend again, and depending on the outcome of the game, he could very well be shut down for the rest of the regular season. We fully expect Matt Flynn to start against the Dallas Cowboys.

QB | Brandon Weeden | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden (concussion) was cleared to practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.

QB | Peyton Manning | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (ankle) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

If there was any doubt about his health, he silenced all critics by nearly throwing 60 times in Week 14 and completing almost 40 passes. Continue to start Manning until the team locks up hold field advantage throughout the playoffs.

QB | EJ Manuel | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
The Buffalo Bills plan to scale back their offensive game plan in order to aid the development of QB EJ Manuel for the final three regular season games. Manuel had his worst performance in the Week 14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, throwing four interceptions. However, head coach Doug Marrone believes Manuel is still the long-term answer at quarterback. "He has the ability to do it, there's no doubt in my mind. The problem is that it's like anything else, he's going to take a lot of the heat because of the position and that comes with it. At the end of the day, we need to make sure that the people around him are doing what they're supposed to do," Marrone said.

Manuel has had a tough season, and his midseason injury didn't make things any easier on him. He has plenty of upside left for next year, but it's not wise to rely on him for the last three weeks of the season.

Running Back

RB | Toby Gerhart | Minnesota Vikings | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team is more optimistic about RB Toby Gerhart (hamstring) being able to play Week 15 than they are about RB Adrian Peterson (foot) but that Peterson is a fast healer and is determined to play. Neither is expected to practice Wednesday, Dec. 11, but the team is hoping they will be able to practice by Friday, Dec. 13.

Owners will have to monitor the practice participation of both players to get a better idea on who will be able to play. Peterson should be in starting lineups if he is able to play. Gerhart should be considered a No. 2 running back or flex option if Peterson misses the game.

RB | Jordan Todman | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Jordan Todman likely will start Week 15 if RB Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) is not able to play. Jones-Drew will not practice until Friday, Dec. 13, at the earliest.

Owners will have to monitor the situation to see if Jones-Drew has any chance to play this week. Todman likely will be nothing more than a flex option if he starts.

RB | Willis McGahee | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns RB Willis McGahee (concussion) will not practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.

RB | Zac Stacy | St. Louis Rams | Fantasy
St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy enters Week 15 with 721 rushing yards and is in pursuit of a 1,000-yard rushing season, which would make him just the third by a rookie in team history, joining Jerome Bettis in 1993 and Eric Dickerson in 1983. Eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark would require him to perform just beyond his per-game average of 79 yards in his nine starts this season.

RB | Eddie Lacy | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
If Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) cannot play this week, it is likely fourth-year veteran RB James Starks will play in Lacy's place. Starks has a career-high three touchdowns this season and is averaging a career-high 5.3 yards per carry but has never played against the Dallas Cowboys.

Considering the Cowboys' defense averages close to 129 rushing yards per game, which is ranked 28th in the National Football League, Starks may be a good bet to pick up off the bench. As a previous post indicated, monitor Lacy's health but if you have a bench spot open pick Starks up as a handcuff.

RB | Ryan Mathews | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has four 100-yard rushing games this season, and only Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (five) and Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (five) have more. He carried the ball 30 times in the Week 14 game against the New York Giants, and he is more than happy with the extra workload. "I'm a firm believer of 'go as long as you can'," head coach Mike McCoy said. "I've got no problem with the running back (handling a high volume."

Fantasy owners in the playoffs are more than happy to see Mathews handling the ball more. In Week 15, he faces a Denver Broncos rushing defense which ranks seventh in the NFL by allowing just 99.8 yards per game. However, the Broncos have given up 14 rushing scores, which ranks in the bottom half of the league.

RB | Brandon Jacobs | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is already pushing to return to the team in 2014, and he indicated that the team would be his first choice over any of the other 31 clubs. "Listed, there is no place in the (NFL) that I'd rather be than right here at 1925 Giants Drive," Jacobs said Tuesday, Dec. 10, after landing on season-ending Injured Reserve. "Nowhere. We could've went 0-16 and I would be happy and smiling in this locker room because I'm a Giant at heart, I love the organization, I love the fans, I love that 'ny'. So there's not a better place for me. I'd rather be here than go somewhere and be undefeated. There is where I belong."

RB | Knowshon Moreno | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno (ankle) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

To keep Moreno fresh for a playoff run, the Broncos will likely look to limit his workload somewhat in these last three games. Montee Ball will share more of the work and is a decent flex play. Moreno remains a solid RB2 against the San Diego Chargers.

RB | Bernard Scott | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens placed WR Brandon Stokley (concussion) on Injured Reserve Tuesday, Dec. 10. In a corresponding move, the team re-signed RB Bernard Scott.

RB | Lamar Miller | Miami Dolphins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) is participating in practice Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Wide Receiver

WR | Vincent Jackson | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson (undisclosed) is not participating during the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.

WR | Stephen Hill | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Stephen Hill (knee) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.

WR | T.Y. Hilton | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said WR T.Y. Hilton (shoulder) is fighting through a minor shoulder injury.

WR | Wes Welker | Denver Broncos | Injury, Breaking, Fantasy
Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) will not play in Week 15.

Having two concussions within a few weeks is usually a multi-week absence. This week's game being on Thursday, Dec. 12, didn't help matters. There's a chance he could return after an extended period of rest for Week 16. Expect Eric Decker to have a more consistent role, and Jacob Tamme will likely receive more looks in Welker's absence.

WR | Dwayne Harris | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys WR Dwayne Harris (hamstring) re-injured his hamstring in the Monday, Dec. 9, game and likely will miss the Green Bay Packers game this weekend. He had been inactive for the Raiders game on Thanksgiving Day and missed practice last week with the hamstring injury.

WR | Reggie Wayne | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (knee) said Tuesday, Dec. 10, that he expects to start running in a month and a half, and it will be four and a half months until he is "full throttle."

WR | Demaryius Thomas | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos QB Demaryius Thomas (shoulder) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Thomas will start and is a must-play.

WR | Eric Decker | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos WR Eric Decker (ribs) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Decker should continue to see his value stay at a high point on the season with Wes Welker (concussion) expected to miss the game Thursday night.

WR | Keenan Allen | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (shoulder) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Allen is expected to play and should be in all lineups for Thursday night's matchup against the Denver Broncos. Allen is Philip Rivers' favorite target against a secondary that has been giving up plenty of big plays in recent weeks.

WR | Eddie Royal | San Diego Chargers | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Chargers WR Eddie Royal (toe) was limited in practice Tuesday, Dec. 10.

This marks progress for Royal, who returned to action last weekend. However, he hasn't been practicing during the week, so this suggests his toe injury could be improving. Consider him a weak flex play in deeper leagues.

WR | Brandon Stokley | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens placed WR Brandon Stokley (concussion) on Injured Reserve Tuesday, Dec. 10. In a corresponding move, the team re-signed RB Bernard Scott.

Tight End

TE | Dennis Pitta | Baltimore Ravens | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Although Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta returned to the lineup on Sunday, Dec. 8, the team still wants TE Dallas Clark to be an integral part of the lineup and he will play at the first opportunity. "Dallas is going to be a big part of what we're doing going forward," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "It just depends on the game plan and how the offensive coaches decide to put that together."

TE | Craig Stevens | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
Tennessee Titans TE Craig Stevens is expected to play a larger role in Week 15 after being on the field for just 11 snaps in Week 14.

TE | Julius Thomas | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (knee) practiced in full Tuesday, Dec. 10.

It was nice to see Thomas return last week, catch a touchdown pass and have no ill effects from his knee injury. He'll be a TE1 again against the San Diego Chargers this Thursday night.
