Brees is scheduled to become a free agent, as Chargers general manager A.J. Smith has said the team has concerns over Brees' surgery which have limited the teams' financial commitment. Andrews' report said that Brees could be allowed to participate in a team's minicamp in May. Instead, the team paid him a $1 million non-exercise fee, which boosts his compensation for 2006 to $10 million. His salary cap hit is about $14 million. The Titans' move also voided the final three years of McNair's deal, making him a free agent after the 2006 season.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Atlanta Falcons have guaranteed a $7 million roster bonus due to QB Michael Vick. The move creates about $5.25 million in additional room under the salary cap. The team basically turned his roster bonus into a signing bonus, which allows them to prorate it over the remainder of the contract.

He is expecting to fully participate in the team's offseason program, minicamps, and training camp.

QB | Eli Manning | New York Giants | Fantasy
Arthur Staple, of Newsday, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning might visit WR Plaxico Burress and TE Jeremy Shockey in Miami if they won't come to Giants Stadium in the offseason. Manning said, "I have to get with Shockey and Plaxico and find out what their plans are, and talk to [head coach Tom] Coughlin, because I need to get a percentage of my workouts in New York. But if I can get a few days of throwing with them, that would go a long way toward getting ready for the season."

Feeley - to return to the team in 2006. Schottenheimer added that Brees would be the starter if he were healthy. "In my opinion, we're better off if Drew Brees is here," he said. If he's able to recover from this injury - and I'm optimistic about that - I think it gives us an advantage."

QB | J.P. Losman | Buffalo Bills | Draft Information, Free Agency News
Allen Wilson, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills general manager said the third quarterback the team is looking to add to compete with current QBs J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb won't be a high draft pick or a high-profile free agent like QB Drew Brees. "There may be a young one out there," Levy said during a visit with the media at the NFL Combine. "Is there one or two in free agency that's not necessarily a blow-you-away guy? Not necessarily a Drew Brees, for instance. And if he can come in and compete, great." Levy hasn't ruled out using a mid- to late-round draft pick on a passer, but the team wouldn't mind a young veteran with experience. Levy says the Bills' interest in acquiring another quarterback does not mean they have lost confidence in Losman. Levy said Losman has the physical tools to be an outstanding player. Head coach Dick Jauron added that someone will go into minicamp penciled in as the starter. Based on last season's performance, Holcomb might be the choice.

QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Pete Dougherty, of PackersNews.com, reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers met with new head coach Mike McCarthy at the Packers' offices two weeks ago and will begin his intensive schooling in McCarthy's offense when the offseason training program begins in late March. McCarthy spent a lot of time studying Rogers before the 2005 NFL Draft when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff. Rodgers' development as the Packers' future starting quarterback is crucial to the Packers regardless, but especially if QB Brett Favre retires this offseason. Rodgers will spend most of the offseason in Green Bay and can begin working 90 minutes a day with an assistant coach March 20.

Childress acknowledged that the team has had inquiries about Culpepper, with the free agent and trading period set to begin next weekend. "That's what goes on this time of year," he said.

QB | Brian Griese | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Fantasy
Rick Stroud and Stephen F. Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, report the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working on a deal to bring QB Brian Griese back for at least one more season. Griese's agent, Ralph Cindrich, met with Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen at the NFL scouting combine Wednesday night, Feb. 22, and talks resumed Thursday, Feb. 23. Griese is owed a $2.6 million roster bonus next week, increasing his salary cap value from $1.398 million to nearly $7.1 million. Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden would love to have Griese back for at least one more season, giving the team a steady veteran to complement the growth of the 25-year-old QB Chris Simms, who has only started 12 games in his career. Last week Cindrich expressed doubt that the team would pay the roster bonus to Griese and indicated there was little room for negotiations.

QB | Rex Grossman | Chicago Bears | Draft Information, Fantasy
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports the Chicago Bears remain committed to QB Rex Grossman as their starting quarterback, but they'll look to bolster the all-important position this offseason in free agency and perhaps even the NFL Draft. General manager Jerry Angelo relayed that message to reporters at the NFL Combine Thursday, Feb. 23. "We've got to get that quarterback position stabilized," Angelo said. "If we don't get that stabilized, it's very hard to play around that." It seems that the ideal quarterback for the Bears would be one who's willing to accept a reserve role while possessing the ability and confidence to produce when called upon. Angelo told reporters that there's a chance the team won't acquire any quarterbacks and could line up again in 2006 with Grossman, QB Kyle Orton and QB Jeff Blake. The general manager also stressed that bolstering the position is not his lone objective.

RB | Ron Dayne | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos RB Ron Dayne has a "good" chance to eventually handle the load in the backfield, according to general manager Ted Sundquist. Dayne's advantages are his size, foot quickness and acceleration off the cut. Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, who previously served as the Broncos' offensive coordinator, agreed with Sundquist's assessments and added that Dayne's chances will be better if he has another solid offseason conditioning program that is aimed at keeping his weight down and an increase in stamina.

Tom Orsborn, from The Express-News, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (neck) is possibly considering retirement. Friends and family say his actions of late are not in keeping with his usual preparation for an upcoming season. Holmes' stepfather said, "He hasn't been carrying on as if he was going to play. Normally, he would be in the gym working out and have a routine going on. Right now, he seems to be laid back and relaxed and not wanting to think about it." Holmes' career was jeopardized by a helmet-to-helmet collision that gave him head and neck trauma.

RB | Jamal Lewis | Baltimore Ravens | Free Agency News, Fantasy
Judd Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings have not shown any interest in Baltimore Ravens RB Jamal Lewis, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 3. Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, said, "They have not expressed any interest. Usually teams in general call to say, 'We're interested and when free agency starts we'll call.' I have to assume they are not interested at this point."

RB | Edgerrin James | Free Agent Players | Free Agency News, Fantasy
The Seattle Times reports although earlier stories said the Arizona Cardinals planned to pursue Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander, if he became a free agent March 3, their public words at the NFL Combine seemed to indicate they would not. "A blockbuster deal in my opinion is one that eats up most of your cap space," Cardinals head coach Dennis Green said. "It means you get one player and one and done. And we're not going to do that. If you ask me if we're going to go after one of the incredible backs that might be available in a blockbuster deal that probably will not happen." Vice president of football operations Rod Graves said the team has not expressed interest in Alexander or RB Edgerrin James, who are both still under contract. He indicated that the Cardinals would rather go after more affordable players who have the built-in drive to succeed.

RB | Shaun Alexander | Seattle Seahawks | Free Agency News, Fantasy

RB | Chris Brown | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
Jim Wyatt and Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, report Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher indicated the Titans are content with their current running backs in RB Chris Brown and RB Travis Henry. "Going back and looking at the cut-ups (tape), I was pleased with what Chris was able to do," Fisher said. "I think we can help Chris much better by making some changes. I think if Travis can really settle down, buckle down and get in real good shape, we can work out the contract situation, I think that we still will be satisfied with the two of them."

RB | J.J. Arrington | Arizona Cardinals | Fantasy
Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green still has faith in RB J.J. Arrington. "What he needs is another chance to go in and show he's the player we believed he was when we drafted him," Green said. "I believe he is that player, but I'm not going to try to convince you of it. He's got to get a chance to play and have a chance to do that, regardless of whether we draft a back or not. We could easily draft a back and he doesn't beat J.J. out. That could easily happen."

RB | Maurice Morris | Seattle Seahawks | Free Agency News
Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports the Seattle Seahawks are actively trying to re-sign RB Maurice Morris. He will become an unrestricted free agent March 3.

RB | Onterrio Smith | Minnesota Vikings | Free Agency News
Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports soon-to-be free agent RB Maurice Morris (Seahawks) has caught the eye of the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit Lions running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery said a marriage between Morris and Minnesota would appear to be an ideal match. "For the head coach in Minnesota, Maurice would be a No. 1 candidate because he's been in the West Coast system," said Montgomery. "You can plug him right in, and you can go out there tomorrow and start running plays." Morris fits the profile of the type of veteran free agent the Vikings' new "Triangle of Authority" would appear to be inclined to target. Vikings head coach Brad Childress acknowledged Friday, Feb. 24, that the team is thin in terms of numbers, and the Vikings are not assuming that RB Onterrio Smith, who is serving a one-year suspension, will be back with them in 2006.

RB | Ahman Green | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Bob McGinn and Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, report Green Bay Packers RB Ahman Green is still in the Packers' plans and apparently he has no desire to play somewhere else. "All things being equal he wants to be there," said his agent, David Dunn.

RB | Marshall Faulk | St. Louis Rams | Fantasy
St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan would like to give RB Marshall Faulk more action during the 2006 season, although RB Steven Jackson will remain the team's feature back. However, Faulk has not given the team any definitive word about returning. The Rams do believe he will return for another season.

RB | Corey Dillon | New England Patriots | Draft Information
During his NFL Combine interview, New Mexico RB Dontrell Moore said the New England Patriots have interviewed him. RB | Domanick Davis | Houston Texans | Draft Information, Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak was asked at the NFL Combine Friday, Feb. 24, about his impressions of RB Domanick Davis and he responded: "I think he's a fine player. I've spent some time with him since I've come to Houston. But I also know in this league it takes two. A lot of teams are playing two or three guys. I know in Denver we did that. I know Domanick did get beat up some this year. I think he missed four or five games. And it never hurts to have another one. I think he'll be a benefit to Domanick if we do add another quality back to our football team in the long haul. He'll continue to do his job. He's a fine player."

WR | Eric Moulds | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Leo Roth, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports the Buffalo Bills and WR Eric Moulds' representative resumed talking on Wednesday, March 1, and today the team will mull over a counterproposal. Greg Johnson, Moulds' personal adviser, said he is seeking a restructured contract that would lower Moulds' $10.85 million cap figure but not cut his pay. "Maybe they are waiting for that Hail Mary," said Johnson, who stressed again that Moulds won't take any sort of pay reduction. "We'd like to see Eric finish his career in Buffalo, and if it makes sense for him to take a pay cut, we'd do it. But based on the information (the Bills) have given me, there is no justification."

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports despite early reports to the contrary, agent Alvin Keels said he is "pessimistic" he can strike a long-term contract with the Minnesota Vikings by Friday's deadline free agency deadline for WR Koren Robinson. Keels said discussions with Rob Brzezinski, the Vikings' vice president of football operations, haven't been fruitful with the start of free agency fast approaching. As previously noted, Robinson's contract does include a clause that gave the club the right to match any offer in free agency. With the Indianapolis Colts' re-signing of WR Reggie Wayne last week, Robinson is among the top receivers available. In December, Robinson told the Pioneer Press that he wanted to remain a Viking. But when asked what kind of contract he is looking for, Robinson said, "I don't really know the numbers. But I can tell what's a good deal, and what's suitable. As a man, you don't want to be disrespected."

Walker's new agent, Kennard McGuire, called Walker's $650,000 base salary a disservice to his client and an NFL source claims Walker approached the team a few weeks ago asking for either an upgraded contract or a trade. Thompson said, "I don't think it's worth getting all worked up about. Business is business, and we'll be talking to those guys (Walker and McGuire). This is not unusual. Players are sometimes unsatisfied with their contracts. Sometimes teams are unsatisfied and it's the other way around. It's part of business."
