QB | Jim Sorgi | Indianapolis Colts | Injury News, Fantasy
Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports if Indianapolis Colts backup QB Jim Sorgi's (shoulder) shoulder continues to be a problem or the Colts have an interest in acquiring another veteran, two might be available. Reports have the Buffalo Bills willing to part with QB Kelly Holcomb and the Tennessee Titans at least willing to listen to overtures for QB Billy Volek.

QB | Ben Roethlisberger | Pittsburgh Steelers | Fantasy
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburg Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (appendix) will miss Week 1 and will probably be out for Week 2.

QB | Daunte Culpepper | Miami Dolphins | Injury News, Fantasy
Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) admits he is not back to the form he was in during the 2004 season. NBC analyst Jerome Bettis said, "He's still limping around a little out there. I think it's going to be a problem with his durability in (late-season) games." Head coach Nick Saban said it was hard to put a percentage on Culpepper's recovery because he is new to the team. Saban added, "In each game, he made significant improvement in the way he moved around and the confidence he moved with. I'm sure the more he plays, the more he will continue to develop that confidence and be able to get back to what everybody would say is '100 percent.'"

QB | Vince Young | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
TitansOnline.com reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said Saturday, Sept. 3, that he is still evaluating the team's starting quarterback position. It appears rookie QB Vince Young will be the team's No. 2 quarterback. "We had a session today. We're going to continue to get all three guys (QB Billy Volek, QB Kerry Collins and QB Vince Young) reps. Vince is going to be our two, and we're going to bring both of the other two guys along as quickly as we can. We'll make a decision later in the week."

QB | Matt Leinart | Arizona Cardinals | Injury News, Fantasy
Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Arizona Cardinals received good news Friday, Sept. 1, when the MRI on rookie backup QB Matt Leinart's (shoulder) right, non-throwing shoulder showed Leinart with only a sprain. Leinart will have some pain, head coach Dennis Green said, but he might not miss much practice time. "Matt is tough as all get out," Green said. "He is looking forward to going out to practice and helping in any way he can." Green said Leinart might not work Sunday, Sept. 3, and could miss practice when the team reconvenes Wednesday, Sept 6.

RB | Jamal Lewis | Baltimore Ravens | Injury News, Fantasy

RB | Brian Westbrook | Philadelphia Eagles | Injury News, Fantasy
During his press conference Monday, Sept. 4, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid addressed the status of RB Brian Westbrook (foot). "Yeah, he's getting there. I'm not going to get into all of the percentages, but he's getting in there and he's feeling more comfortable. I think he's ready to go and I'm not too worried about that."

RB | Cedric Benson | Chicago Bears | Injury News, Fantasy
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the team feels good about where RB Cedric Benson (left shoulder) is, an indication he could be ready to play Sunday, Sept. 10, at Green Bay after not dressing for a preseason game for the second straight year. As previously noted, RB Thomas Jones will start the game. ''We hope (Benson) can be counted on,'' head coach Lovie Smith said. ''He's a big part of what we will hopefully be doing.''

RB | Willis McGahee | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Bucky Gleason, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills RB Willis McGahee is ready to put a disappointing 2005 season behind him and to start the 2006 season. "I can't be more excited," he said after practice Sunday, Sept. 3. "The season is finally getting here, and I'm ready to go out there and rock and roll." All along, the Bills have said they want to get him the ball. He might be their one marquee player on offense, one blessed with the size and strength to break down a defense and the speed to break open a game. The Bills have been hesitant to reveal any concrete goals this season. The emphasis has been on simply getting better, which is bound to happen if McGahee can break out with a big year. Opposing teams will focus on McGahee until QB J.P. Losman proves he can hurt them with his arm. McGahee figures to play a more prominent role in the passing game, which is also something new. McGahee arrived in training camp lighter and quicker than in recent years. "I'll be a premier back," McGahee said. "I'm not worried about that. It's just the fact that we have to be patient and let everything come."

RB | Ron Dayne | Houston Texans | Fantasy
John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB Ron Dayne, who weighs 245 pounds, is expected to be used in short-yardage and goaline situations with the Texans. Rookie RB Wali Lundy is expected to remain the starting running back. "He gives us a real bruiser," head coach Gary Kubiak said of Dayne. "He can pound the ball. He's got more size than our other two. Because we're familiar with him, he can step right into our offense on Tuesday (Sept. 5) and know exactly what we're doing. At this point that's a tremendous advantage for us."

RB | Mike Bell | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos head into the 2006 with inexperienced RBs Mike Bell and Cedric Cobbs joining RB Tatum Bell in the offensive backfield. "With all due respect to the fantasy football people out there, I don't care who we have back there," Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist said. "Our football team will rush the football. It's who we are."

RB | Samkon Gado | Green Bay Packers | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Wisconsin State Journal reports Green Bay Packers RB Samkon Gado, who rushed for a team-high 582 yards and six touchdowns last season, will be the backup to starting RB Ahman Green. RB Noah Herron, also in his second season, is the third running back.

RB | Anthony Thomas | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Allen Wilson, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills RB Anthony Thomas will enter the 2006 season as the No. 2 running back. His experience and history with head coach Dick Jauron from their Chicago days were big advantages for him in earning the job.

RB | Najeh Davenport | Free Agent Players | Free Agency News
PackersNews.com reports Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson said it was a difficult decision to drop free agent RB Najeh Davenport, who was cut by the team Saturday, Sept. 2. "He's done a good job. He's done everything we asked. He battled through some injuries. We had some teams inquire about him, nothing ever came to fruition," said Thompson. He added the team wanted to keep RBs Ahman Green, Samkon Gado and Noah Herron.

RB | Eric Shelton | Carolina Panthers | Fantasy
Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Carolina Panthers decided not to cut RB Eric Shelton, despite some harsh comments by offensive coordinator Dan Henning last week. "He's a powerful guy who can move the pile, and that's something where if down the road anything were to happen to the people in front of him, that's a trait that's a positive trait," Panthers' head coach John Fox said.

RB | William Green | Cleveland Browns | Injury News, Fantasy
Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports the Cleveland Browns placed RB William Green (quad) on Injured Reserve earlier Saturday, Sept. 2, but it may not last for long. The team is trying to work out an injury settlement with Green that would allow him to be released. There's a chance he could return following the settlement, but it's not likely. Green and RB Lee Suggs were beaten out by RB Jason Wright. The Browns tried to trade Green and Suggs all last week, but the efforts were for naught. Nobody would take Green, because he has two strikes under the league's substance-abuse policy, and a third means a year's suspension.

RB | Stephen Davis | St. Louis Rams | Fantasy
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Stephen Davis is expected to serve as the team's No. 2 running back in 2006 behind starting RB Steven Jackson. "He's obviously a proven back in this league as a starter, and as a No. 2, he complements what we're going to try and get done in our running game," Rams head coach Scott Linehan said. "Steven Jackson is our starter, and (Davis) gives us depth and has gotten to that part of his career where he can complement Steven." Linehan said Davis should play in St. Louis' season opener Sept. 10 against Denver.

WR | Deion Branch | New England Patriots | Fantasy
Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports highly placed New York Jets' sources have told The Post that the WR Deion Branch trade with the New England Patriots is "dead" mostly because the Patriots are asking for way too much, at least a first-round draft pick.
