First Baseman

1B | Mat Gamel | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
The Chicago Cubs claimed 1B Mat Gamel off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, Oct. 3. Gamel hasn't played since May of 2012 after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee twice.

Gamel is a low-risk investment for the Cubbies that could potentially yield a high reward. Third base was his original position, so expect him to compete for a roster spot there in spring training. It'll all depend on how healthy his knee is, but don't completely forget about this guy if he wins the job.

Second Baseman

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Dodgers don't intend to pursue New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano, who can be a free agent in the offseason.

2B | Michael Martinez | Philadelphia Phillies | Transaction,
Philadelphia Phillies INFs Michael Martinez and Peter Orr and Ps Zach Miner and Mauricio Robles cleared waivers and were outrighted to the minors Thursday, Oct. 3.

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (abdomen) said he is feeling better and his abdominal injury won't be an issue in the playoffs.

3B | Taylor Green | Milwaukee Brewers | Transaction,
Milwaukee Brewers INF Taylor Green, OF Josh Prince and P Nick Bucci cleared waivers and were outrighted to the minors Thursday, Oct. 3.

Outfielder

OF | Keon Broxton | Arizona Diamondbacks | Transaction,
Arizona Diamondbacks OF Keon Broxton and P Matt Langwell cleared waivers and were outrighted to the minors Thursday, Oct. 3. Broxton was sent to Double-A Mobile and Langwell is going to Triple-A Reno.

OF | Joey Butler | St. Louis Cardinals | Transaction
The St. Louis Cardinals claimed OF Joey Butler off waivers from the Texas Rangers Thursday, Oct. 3.

OF | Nelson Cruz | Texas Rangers | Free Agents, Fantasy
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team expects to make a qualifying offer to impending free-agent OF Nelson Cruz this winter.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Clayton Kershaw | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers general partner Magic Johnson said signing SP Clayton Kershaw to a long-term deal is the priority in the offseason.

SP | Michael Wacha | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha will start Game 4 of the NLDS, if necessary. SP Shelby Miller will be in the bullpen.

SP | Matt Moore | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore will start Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox, with SP David Price toeing the rubber in Game 2.

SP | Tyson Ross | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy,
San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder Thursday, Oct. 3, and he's expected to be ready for spring training next year.

There shouldn't be anything to worry about here since the procedure was to his non-throwing appendage. Consider Ross a strong option to anchor your starting pitching staff next season. He pitches in a great environment and has strikeout upside.

SP | Yu Darvish | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (back) received an injection for a nerve issue in his lower back Wednesday, Oct 2, and he'll be re-evaluated when he returns to the U.S. in November. The team is expecting him to be ready for spring training next season. Darvish led the league in strikeouts (277) and went 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA on the year.

Darvish will be drafted as a top-end starting pitcher in 2014, but this is a situation definitely worth keeping an eye on in the offseason. Stay tuned.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Michael Zagurski | New York Yankees | Transaction,
New York Yankees RP Michael Zagurski cleared waivers and was outrighted to the minors Thursday, Oct. 3.

RP | Victor Marte | St. Louis Cardinals | Transaction,
The St. Louis Cardinals designated RP Victor Marte for assignment Thursday, Oct. 3.

RP | Steve Cishek | Miami Marlins | Fantasy,
The Miami Marlins could consider trading RP Steve Cishek this offseason because the team has some power arms in their minor league system. Cishek could be involved in a trade for offensive help.
