First Baseman

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Allen Craig (foot) was able to make the start in Game 5 of the World Series Monday, Oct. 28, against the Boston Red Sox. He finished hitless in three at-bats.


Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (groin) underwent "successful core muscle repair surgery" Tuesday, Oct. 29, and is expected to be ready for spring training next year. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers. Cabrera will need to rehab for the next six to eight weeks. "I tried to (play hurt), to take advantage of the chance we had in the playoffs, because with so many good teams, you never know when a chance like this will come along," Cabrera said. "It took me eight or nine years to get back in the playoffs, and I wanted to be back there and help the team win."

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester allowed just one earned run, four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings in a win in Game 5 of the World Series Monday, Oct. 28, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Lester's only mistake was a solo home run to OF Matt Holliday in the fourth inning, ending a 16 1/3 innings scoreless streak dating back to 2007 for Lester.

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) has offered to pitch in relief in Game 6, and Game 7, if necessary. He had been dealing with a fatigued shoulder, but said Monday, Oct. 28, that he was feeling stronger than expected after his Game 4 start.

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) declared himself ahead of schedule in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. He said Monday, Oct. 28, that he feels good. "I am just doing range of motion stuff now, but today was the first day I could take the bandages off and I was at (Hospital for Special Surgery) working and everybody thinks I am ahead of schedule," Harvey said. "We were able to strengthen it today and I think they were surprised I could do that already."

The San Francisco Giants will not be exercising SP Barry Zito's $18 million option for the 2014 season, and they may not bring back SP Ryan Vogelsong, either. Zito is due a $7 million buyout, and the move will officially be made after the World Series.
