Former Houston Astros first-round pick SP Brady Aiken (elbow) revealed that he had Tommy John surgery this week for a torn collateral ligament in his left elbow. Aiken was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 First-Year Entry Draft but couldn't agree to terms. He'll miss the entire 2015 season.

He threw all of his pitches in the outing Friday. The Reds expect Bailey to miss one or two starts in April.

Last year, Brantley's father encouraged him to be more aggressive at the plate and it worked out, as Brantley finished with a .327 average and 20 home runs, 45 doubles, 94 runs and 97 RBI. "Same swing, letting the ball travel," Brantley said. "Sometimes I like to guide it over there (to left field) and take a single and call it a day almost. This time, it's just staying on that ball and trying to actually drive it through the shortstop, through the left fielder with good backspin and carry."

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant says that he is ready to start the 2015 season in the major leagues, but team president Theo Epstein said the team is still evaluating the youngster, and he might need more seasoning in the minors before he makes his major league debut. Bryant currently leads all of baseball with nine home runs this spring and his batting .406 with 15 RBI. "I've never put a guy on an opening day roster who hadn't played in the big leagues previously. In 13 years, I've never done it," Epstein said. The Cubs can prevent Bryant from becoming a free agent until 2021 if he doesn't make his debut until at least mid-April.
