White Sox | Manager: Off-field stuff has affected Alexei Ramirez
Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez has had a poor 2013 season in the field, but off-the-field issues have likely contributed to that poor performance, according to manager Robin Ventura. Ramirez committed three errors on Tuesday, Aug. 13, giving him 20, which matches a career high for a campaign. In spring training, Ramirez left the team because of the death of his father-in-law. Ventura believes that Ramirez's ability hasn't diminished, because the shortstop has still made some great plays. His Ultimate Zone Rating, a defensive metric, is 5.5, which is eighth among regular shortstops, according to Fangraphs.com. He leads the club with 138 hits and is second on it with 25 stolen bases.
Fantasy Tip: The Cuban Missile has had a solid fantasy season because of the BA and steals, so fantasy owners aren't much concerned about the defensive miscues. Especially if his skipper is willing to defend him. This isn't the first time that Ramirez has been bothered by things away from the clubhouse. It's been tough at times in the States for the Cuban transplant, who's always been reportedly close to his family.
