Panthers | Ron Rivera becoming more aggressive
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera acknowledges that he has become much more aggressive in going for it on fourth downs after the team's heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Rivera was the second-most conservative coach in the league in his first 34 games in trying fourth-down conversions. "It's about trying to make a statement," Rivera said of his fourth-down risks. "And it's probably also honestly one of the things that I've learned. Sometimes you play by the book and you miss opportunities. It's been an enlightening situation for me. One of the things that I want to try to do is to make sure we are in the best position to win. And the other realization is kicking field goals is obviously not good enough." Rivera has had his team go for it on fourth-and-one four times in the last three games, and they have converted on three of those plays.
Fantasy Tip: This probably doesn't make a ton of difference in the long run, but the more confidence Rivera has in his offense to sustain drives, the more confidence Cam Newton and Co. will likely have in executing their plays.
