St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong isn't in the lineup Tuesday, April 15. 2B Mark Ellis is starting in his place.

FANTASY TIP: Odd, because they're facing right-hander Marco Estrada, but the youngster will get days off like this now and then. No worries for the long term.

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 13:14:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus (hamstring) is out of action Tuesday, April 15. The hamstring injury appears more serious than initially believed.

FANTASY TIP: Rasmus has been clicking of late, but his owners will want to watch this. Expect Moises Sierra to start against righty Phil Hughes unless a roster move is made.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi (illness) will not make his scheduled start Tuesday, April 15. RP Brandon Gomes will start in his place.

FANTASY TIP: His flu-like symptoms apparently were too taxing for him to start on Tax Day. Gomes isn't a recommended fantasy play, especially for the possibility that Joe Maddon mixes and matches to fill innings tonight.

Nationals | Tyler Clippard reinvents himself with splitter

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:31:31 -0700

Washington Nationals RP Tyler Clippard is now incorporating his splitter into the mix more often after unveiling it for the first time last fall. However, he only uses it as a complement to his fastball-changeup combination, throwing it once every 20 pitches or so. "It's a normal part of my repertoire at this point," Clippard said. "I mean, I still have to find the right spots to throw it. I'm not going to be just fastball-split. It's definitely my third or fourth pitch. But it's something that I'm going to use consistently." Clippard grips the ball wider than the seams and otherwise throws it the same as he would his fastball. However, it's less maintenance than his curveball.

FANTASY TIP: Clippard remains a fine fantasy baseball commodity for his peripherals once he can get on track this year, even if he isn't closing. Rafael Soriano is the team's ninth-inning man, and Drew Storen is still in his way, too, so it'll once again take a few injuries before he's likely back in a closing role, however.

Angels | Dane De La Rosa's velocity down

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:29:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Dane De La Rosa's velocity was surprisingly low in his debut Saturday, April 12, and he's being evaluated for medical reasons. "He feels good, he says he feels healthy, so I think you just want to explore why some of his velo is down," manager Mike Scioscia added. "Once he's ready, I know he's going to get right back on the horse. And Dane De La Rosa is going to be a big part of our bullpen. It's just going to take a little more time."

"I'm pretty content with our infield right now," Steinbrenner said. "I think guys like (Dean) Anna and (Yangervis) Solarte have been pleasant surprises. Kelly Johnson has been good. Derek (Jeter) is healthy. So far, so good. But it's early."

Indians | Michael Bourn activated, Nyjer Morgan sent out

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:14:17 -0700

The Cleveland Indians activated OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) from the disabled list Tuesday, April 15, and optioned OF Nyjer Morgan to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move.

FANTASY TIP: The Indians' game Tuesday was postponed, so look for Bourn to make his season debut Wednesday. The Tribe could look to rest Bourn more often initially to ease him back in.

Braves | Dan Uggla in hot stretch

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:10:40 -0700

Gattis has two straight two-home run games in Philadelphia, too.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons on a tear

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:05:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons tripled and homered for the second straight day Monday, April 14, and he's 11-for-29 (.379) with five extra-base hits and five RBIs in the last seven games. Simmons has yet to strike out in 45 plate appearances in 2014 and leads the National League with a .467 average in two-strike counts.

FANTASY TIP: Simmons' wrist injury from last week is clearly behind him. Not only does he have one of the best gloves at the 6 in all of baseball, but he can help your offensive stats, as well.
