Thu, 17 Apr 2014 11:28:02 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (hand) said he expects to be back in the lineup Friday, April 18.

FANTASY TIP: Ramirez's injury looked bad last night, but he appears to have dodged a bullet. Check back tomorrow before returning him to your fake starting lineup.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera struggling with approach

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 11:04:53 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera has always been a free swinger in his career, and he admits that the first pitch is often the best pitch to take advantage of with opposing pitchers trying to get ahead. However, Cabrera is batting only .188 with a .111 average through nine at-bats that end on the first pitch this year. However, manager Terry Francona said the team will not ask Cabrera to alter his approach at the plate.

FANTASY TIP: It's a small sample size so far this season, so don't blow it too far out of proportion. Expect his average on balls put in play on the first pitch to progress more toward his career numbers as the season progresses.

Indians | Hoping to keep Ryan Raburn in lineup

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 11:02:04 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Ryan Raburn was receiving plenty of playing time when OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) was on the disabled list. Now that Bourn is back, manager Terry Francona will try to find ways to keep Raburn in the lineup consistently. "Early on, I don't think Bourny is probably going to play 10 in a row," Francona said. "Raburn is going to get a lot of at-bats. Whether it's left field, right field, maybe even a game at first, he's going to get a lot of at-bats."

FANTASY TIP: Raburn should be owned in all AL-only leagues, even with Bourn back. Raburn can serve as the designated hitter while also platooning in the outfield with David Murphy.

Mariners | Brandon Maurer likely to join rotation

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:42:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Brandon Maurer is the likely candidate to join the team's starting rotation starting against the Miami Marlins Sunday, April 20. SP Anthony Fernandez threw 83 pitches in his outing for Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday, April 16. Maurer has allowed two earned runs and five hits in 8 1/3 innings with Tacoma with 17 strikeouts.

FANTASY TIP: Maurer showed some progress last fall after being rushed to the major earlier in the year. Target him in AL-only leagues if you're in need of pitching help. It looks like Maurer could have a decent run in the rotation if he performs well.

Mariners | Cole Gillespie hot in minors

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:35:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Cole Gillespie was 2-for-5 with a two-run home run for Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday, April 17, and he's hitting .405 with a .490 on-base percentage with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 11 games.

Mariners | Corey Hart feeling good

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:30:39 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Corey Hart convinced manager Lloyd McClendon that he's healthy enough to play right field Thursday, April 17. "He told he's feeling good," McClendon said. "That his knees are fine. Hey, listen, I've got to go with my player. He says he's feeling pretty good. But we'll watch him. We'll keep an eye on him." McClendon said Hart may see time at first base in the team's upcoming interleague series in a National League park without the designated hitter.

FANTASY TIP: Don't expect this to become a regular thing for Hart. Michael Saunders, Stefen Romero and now Nick Franklin can also fill in in right field. Hart's unpredictable playing time make him hard to own in standard mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw throws bullpen

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:25:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) tossed 35 pitches during his bullpen session Thursday, April 17, mixing in breaking pitches.

FANTASY TIP: Kershaw's body language looked great, and it didn't seem like his back was giving him problems at all. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Kershaw should be back in a few weeks.

Astros | Jon Singleton to stay in minors for time being

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:20:50 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton isn't close to joining the big league club, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. Singleton went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run with Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, April 16, and is batting .358 with a .460 on-base percentage, five home runs and 18 RBIs in 13 games. "We're happy that Singleton is off to a good start," Luhnow said. "He does not have the Triple-A track record that Springer has yet. We feel he needs to develop that track record. We're always going to be in a position where our fans want our top prospects to come up here sooner than we think they're ready to come up here."

FANTASY TIP: Singleton owners were hoping he'd be next after fellow prospect George Springer got the call this week. That won't be the case for now, but Singleton is still worth stashing in mixed leagues, because if he keeps raking like he is now, Houston will find a spot for him sooner rather than later.

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:19:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) continues to make progress and is ahead of schedule in his rehab. However, he has yet to work on his lateral movement at all but continues to build arm strength with bullpen sessions.

FANTASY TIP: Holland won't be a realistic option for your fantasy squad until later this summer.
