Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (knee) was removed from a Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres Friday, March 27, because of soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. He began experiencing pain after catching a fly ball off the bat of 3B Will Middlebrooks in the third inning but remained in the game for his next at-bat before leaving. Gonzalez claimed the injury was "nothing major," although he is scheduled to be re-evaluated Saturday, March 28.

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) allowed a run and three hits in three innings of work against minor leaguers Friday, March 27, and he walked two and struck out four. It was Bailey's second spring outing after coming back from elbow surgery last September. Bailey is focused on getting ready for the regular season, and he is feeling really good. He threw all of his pitches in the outing Friday. The Reds expect Bailey to miss one or two starts in April.

It's believed that there haven't been substantive contract talks between the two sides to this point. Zimmermann is eligible for free agency this winter, and the team may have moved on after the signed SP Max Scherzer to a team-record $210 million deal this offseason.

Zimmerman didn't ask to be taken out, though, and Williams insisted the move was precautionary. "He's good," Williams said following his team's 1-1 tie with the St. Louis Cardinals. "He's played three in a row. He's fine. He dove for that ball, banged himself a little bit. But he's good. No worries."

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant says that he is ready to start the 2015 season in the major leagues, but team president Theo Epstein said the team is still evaluating the youngster, and he might need more seasoning in the minors before he makes his major league debut. Bryant currently leads all of baseball with nine home runs this spring and his batting .406 with 15 RBI. "I've never put a guy on an opening day roster who hadn't played in the big leagues previously. In 13 years, I've never done it," Epstein said. The Cubs can prevent Bryant from becoming a free agent until 2021 if he doesn't make his debut until at least mid-April.
