Huddle Up: Burkhead took a backseat to Sony Michel but was far more involved than former Super Bowl hero James White, running for a huge first down late in the contest that came close to clinching the game for the Pats. If he could ever stay healthy for a full 16-game slate in New England he could have some decent fantasy value.

Huddle Up: Burkhead often takes a backseat to Sony Michel and James White, but he still is capable of delivering when his number is called and is up to three touchdowns this postseason.
-

Huddle Up: Among other things, the Patriots are notorious for relentlessly attacking an opponent's weakness, and with the New England pass-catching corps not in top shape (no Josh Gordon, a diminished TE Rob Gronkowski) look for plenty of work again for Michel, White & Co., on Sunday.
-

Huddle Up: Burkhead is third on the depth chart and likely will only receive a handful of touches during games. He probably should be avoided in fantasy leagues next week.

Huddle Up: Burkhead has been involved in the offense more over the last three weeks but is still behind Sony Michel and James White on the depth chart. Owners in fantasy leagues probably can avoid Burkhead during the playoffs.

Huddle Up: Burkhead has not been a big factor on offense since returning to the lineup but was productive against the Bills. He likely will receive a handful of touches next week but probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Huddle Up: It took until December this year, but the Patriots' unpredictable backfield usage is rearing its ugly head at the worst time of the season for fantasy owners. Burkhead's usage as a runner is making life difficult for fantasy owners of Sony Michel - as is the goal-line usage of James Develin - while his occasional passing-down usage is taking production away from James White. With that said, he isn't seeing enough work to be useful in fantasy, and that figures to remain the case against the Buffalo Bills in Week 16.

Huddle Up: Burkhead was playing in his first game since suffering an injury in late September. If you need fantasy help at the running back spot, he might be available, but with James White and Sony Michel also healthy, Burkhead's ceiling is rather limited.
-
Posted: 11/8/2018 10:04am ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead suffered the injury in Week 3, and the earliest he can return is Week 13 (Dec. 2), so it's something for New England RB fantasy owners to keep in mind.
-
Posted: 9/26/2018 9:10am ET
Huddle Up: The severity of the injury is unknown, but the move to IR certainly hints it's severe. He's probably not someone to hold on to even if he's able to return this season. Sony Michel and James White will continue to share work and be flex options.
-
Posted: 9/23/2018 7:43pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead was injured in the third quarter after managing a total of just two touches. It's been Sony Michel and James White handling the work, with a bulk of the carries going to Michel.
-
Posted: 9/16/2018 12:13pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead should receive most of the carries in the game and probably will also be involved in the passing game. He will be facing a tough Jacksonville Jaguars defensive but can still be a No. 2 running back or flex option.
-
Posted: 9/15/2018 3:19pm ET
Huddle Up: It's encouraging, but he's not out of the woods yet. Burkhead will have to show that he's good to go in pre-game warmups tomorrow. If he does play he may not see his usual allotment of touches, but he would pose as an RB3 threat.
-
Posted: 9/14/2018 9:54am ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead, of course, still has to clear the concussion protocol, and even if so, he also could be competing with the likes of James White and rookie Sony Michel for touches Sunday in a tough matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. That said, he's a solid flex option if active.
-
Posted: 9/13/2018 2:28pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead needs to pass his concussion tests before he is cleared to play, so owners will need to check on his status over the next few days. He has been receiving most of the work at running back this season and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option if he is able to play in Week 2.
-
Posted: 9/13/2018 10:41am ET
Huddle Up: It's a good step for Burkhead who sat out Wednesday entirely, but he still has a ways to go, including clearing the concussion protocol. If he plays Sunday, he's a solid flex consideration against a tough Jacksonville Jaguars D.
-

Huddle Up: It's looking like there could be another heavy dose of James White, who led the Patriots in targets a week ago. White is a fine backup plan for those who were counting on Burkhead and/or Michel this week. It's a tough matchup in the Jacksonville Jaguars, but White has RB2 to RB3 PPR upside.
-
Posted: 9/9/2018 6:33pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead led the backfield with 19 total touches, compared to five for Jeremy Hill and nine for James White. As such, Burkhead is a solid RB3 or flex fantasy option in most fantasy formats. He faces a tough matchup on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, however.
-
Posted: 9/6/2018 6:52am ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead is a flex option against the Houston Texans, but he might not be worth starting outside of PPR formats this week.
-
Posted: 9/4/2018 7:36pm ET
Huddle Up: The Athletic's Jeff Howe suggested in late August that Burkhead was being held out of the game action during the preseason because the Patriots were being "overcautious" with a player they expect to be an "offensive focal point." That remains to be seen given the usual tricks New England likes to play with fantasy owners, but it might be a necessity to rely on players like Burkhead this season given the lack of proven talent the team has at receiver. Burkhead is a fine low-end RB2/flex play for the opener.
-
Posted: 8/24/2018 1:56pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead recently returned to practice and appears to be on track for Week 1, while Michel's status for the opener is uncertain at this point. Both players should see a solid amount of touches in 2018. Burkhead can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in most leagues, while Michel could also be a flex option for owners.
-
Posted: 8/19/2018 12:53pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead is on track to be the starting running back for the Patriots this season. He should be involved in the running and passing game, which can make him a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in most leagues.
-
Posted: 8/16/2018 10:40pm ET
Huddle Up: At least now we have an answer to what the 'undisclosed' injury is that has sidelined Burkhead recently. Because it's the preseason, the Patriots have absolutely no reason to push things with the running back who is considered the current favorite to lead the backfield and touches. While a tear of any kind in a running back's knee cannot be considered a good thing, the fact he has been cleared to play means owners can probably continue to draft him as a RB3 this month.
-
Posted: 8/16/2018 5:36pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead probably will return to the field in the near future as long as he does not suffer any setbacks. He will be part of a committee at running back this season and may lead the team in carries. He can be considered a No. 2 running back or flex option in most leagues.
-
Posted: 8/13/2018 8:54am ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead figures to lead the backfield committee and is a low-end RB2 or a high-end RB3. So keep tabs on the situation.
-
Posted: 8/8/2018 2:51pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead has been a full participant so far during training camp, but he might be dealing with some type of nagging injury. Barring any setbacks, he has the chance to open as the team's No. 1 option in the backfield. However, with James White, Jeremy Hill and rookie Sony Michel, among others, he should still be viewed as more of a low-end RB2 or flex player in most leagues at this point.
-
Posted: 8/5/2018 4:02pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead is in line to be the starting running back for the Patriots, so he probably will not be the top option to return punts. He likely will be part of a committee this season but can still be at least a No. 3 running back in all leagues because of his ability to run and catch the ball.
-
Posted: 8/5/2018 12:46pm ET
Huddle Up: It's unclear if Michel's knee injury basically guaranteed Burkhead's placement on the first team or if his veteran status did the trick. Either way, Burkhead was already expected to play an important role in the offense this season and is the favorite for goal line work. Expect his ADP to skyrocket in the coming weeks, as he is very likely to be a serviceable flex option at worst even when Michel returns.
-
Posted: 7/18/2018 6:34pm ET
Huddle Up: Burkhead probably will lead the team in carries this season and should also see some work in the passing game. He can be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in most fantasy leagues if he is the top option at running back.
-
Posted: 3/14/2018 2:04pm ET
Huddle Up: This move isn't a big surprise since the Patriots already lost Dion Lewis to free agency. Burkhead was a jack of all trades for the Patriots in 2017 and figures to be in a similar role this season. He has more upside in PPR formats and should be considered a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3, although injuries are a concern after he missed six games last year.
