Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 29, and is questionable for Week 13. However, he's expected to play against the Buffalo Bills this weekend.
Fantasy Tip: Opposing defenses are keying on Gonzalez and forcing Matt Ryan to go elsewhere in the passing game to beat them. For this reason, he's become a weak TE1 play, even against the Bills.

Wed, 27 Nov 2013 13:53:17 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Wed, 20 Nov 2013 12:07:47 -0800
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) is listed as questionable for Week 12 but is expected to play in the game.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez was able to play with the toe injury last week and appears ready to play this week as well. Owners should consider Gonzalez a low-end No. 1 tight end this week.

Tue, 19 Nov 2013 11:44:55 -0800

Mon, 18 Nov 2013 18:35:03 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) did not practice Monday, Nov. 18.

Sun, 17 Nov 2013 06:17:50 -0800
The Atlanta Falcons are optimistic TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) will be able to play in the team's Week 11 game. Gonzalez will be a game time decision.
Fantasy Tip: If Gonzalez is on the field, it is tough to justify sitting him as he is likely still better with the injury than most of the other tight end options available to you.
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 11:45:44 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and is questionable for Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It sounds as if he'll be a game-time decision. Gonzalez has missed only two games in his 17-year career.
Fantasy Tip: If we had to guess, we would expect Gonzalez to tough it out. He's a low-end TE1 if he's playing. Have a backup option ready just in case.

Thu, 14 Nov 2013 11:17:47 -0800

Wed, 13 Nov 2013 13:10:44 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Fantasy Tip: Even though Gonzalez did not practice, there is still nothing to indicate he won't play. Still, this one may go right down to the wire on game day.
Mon, 11 Nov 2013 10:44:02 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) is unsure of his status heading into Week 11, and he indicated that he'll likely have more tests this week to determine the severity of the ailment. "I played on it," he said. "Wasn't able to go full speed, but we'll see how it goes the next day. Usually when you have injuries, you can get through it through in the game. Then the next day after it calms down and swells up a little bit, then that's when the trouble starts. So, we'll see how it goes. Tomorrow, I'm going to wake up, and hopefully it's not that bad." He hasn't missed a game since 2006 and has missed only two games in his 16-plus year NFL career. Gonzalez finished with only three catches for 29 yards on five targets in Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: A hobbled Tony G is still likely better than many tight ends you'll have to choose from. Keep an eye on how much he accomplishes in practice this week. The Falcons will surely attempt to rest him up as much as possible.
Sun, 10 Nov 2013 23:37:33 -0800

Tue, 29 Oct 2013 06:15:39 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he is open to a trade if the team wanted to deal him. "I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade," Gonzalez said. "It would be something that would come from them where they said, 'Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that's a contender.' So I understand the thought process behind that."
Tue, 29 Oct 2013 06:04:40 -0700
The Atlanta Falcons remain uninterested in trading TE Tony Gonzalez.
Fri, 18 Oct 2013 12:18:38 -0700
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7.
Fantasy Tip: Harry Douglas likely will be the team's top receiver Week 7 but probably will be covered by Darrelle Revis, which will make his job difficult. Tony Gonzalez could also receive increased targets, but he likely will be double covered during the game. Owners could consider Douglas as a No. 3 wide receiver or flex option this week. Drew Davis and Kevin Cone could also be more involved in the passing game but are not fantasy relevant.
Fri, 18 Oct 2013 09:06:34 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez has been jammed by two defenders, much like what is done to stop a gunner on special teams, in recent games against the New England Patriots and New York Jets. The coverage was flagged for a penalty in the second quarter in the game against the Jets, when LB David Harris was whistled for defensive holding against Gonzalez. "I think it's illegal," Gonzalez said. "I do know they called it right when I got to 5 yards. So if I can get to 5 yards, then they're going to call it, it seems like, which is good news for me. Because that's no fun going out there and getting double-teamed like that."
Fantasy Tip: Tony G is too good to be shut down completely, even if the Falcons are missing contributions from Julio Jones (foot) and Roddy White (hamstring, ankle). However, he will continue to receive heavy attention from opposing defenses to force Matt Ryan to look elsewhere. This means we may have seen the peak of Gonzalez's value in 2013 unless he's traded, which is unlikely.
Thu, 17 Oct 2013 09:12:57 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he has not asked for a trade from the team, and does not plan on "jumping ship."

Wed, 09 Oct 2013 12:28:59 -0700
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said the team absolutely is not looking to trade TE Tony Gonzalez to a contending team. "That's preposterous that Tony would be traded," Smith said. "He's an integral part of our offense and has been since he's been here. And he's having another Hall of Fame season." Gonzalez is second on the team with 33 catches for 339 yards and leads the team with three touchdowns.
Wed, 09 Oct 2013 11:53:54 -0700
The Atlanta Falcons could consider trading TE Tony Gonzalez before the trade deadline if Gonzalez wants to play for a contending team. The Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs are believed to be interested in Gonzalez.
Tue, 08 Oct 2013 13:42:55 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is making it clear that he doesn't want to be traded to a contending team after it's believed that WR Julio Jones (foot) is out for the rest of the season. Gonzalez wants to finish his career in Atlanta.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez will likely become Matt Ryan's favorite target with Jones expected to be out for the season. Heck, Tony G was Ryan's go-to receiver the past two weeks with Roddy White also dinged up. Opposing defenses will likely devote a lot of attention to Gonzalez from now on, however.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 17:43:22 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez hauled in a reception in the first quarter of the Week 5 game against the New York Jets Monday, Oct. 7, giving him at least one reception in 200 straight games.
Fantasy Tip: Only Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice (272) had a longer streak in the history of the NFL. Gonzalez is still playing at a high level, and remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 18:53:36 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is looking forward to facing the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. The Dolphins have shown a penchant for double teaming the opposition's top wide receiver, which could create more chances for Gonzalez. "They doubled up (Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald) a lot, and you would probably think they'd do the same thing against (Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones), which is going to create one-on-one matchups with other guys," Gonzalez said.
Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins have had difficulty containing the opposition's tight end, and Gonzalez might be a Top 5 option at his position given the struggles in coverage and potential double teams to give Gonzalez a chance to work one-on-one.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 17:20:49 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez might be in for a big game in Week 3, as the Miami Dolphins have struggled defending against tight ends. "It's not just us. These tight ends are darn good athletes," defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said Monday, Sept. 16. "They're mismatch athletes in terms of coverage. We just happen to be facing some really good ones. We have to do a better job against them. The tight end position has become such a key focal point."
Fri, 13 Sep 2013 13:55:18 -0700
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (knee) is fully expected to play in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams.
Fantasy Tip: Roddy White (ankle) is also dinged up, so Atlanta's top-two receivers probably won't be 100 percent in this one. Jones should still be started, but Harry Douglas may be the biggest beneficiary, along with Tony Gonzalez.
Wed, 28 Aug 2013 09:49:26 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez felt fine after he made his preseason debut this past weekend. He believes that his conditioning and explosion off the line of scrimmage can improve, but he was happy with his effort. Gonzalez finished with two receptions for 21 yards, on two targets. He said he doesn't want to play in the team's final preseason contest, which is slated for Thursday, Aug. 29, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is still a top-five fantasy tight end, even at age 37 and in his 17th season. He may slow down a little or get off to a slow start because of his conditioning, but there shouldn't be much of a drop-off -- if there is one -- for the certain Hall of Famer. Initially he was expected to play in the team's final pair of preseason affairs, so we'll see if Mike Smith meets Gonzo's desires for this last one. Reportedly, Smith may be motivated to play some of his starters, period, because he was unhappy with their effort in that last game.
Wed, 21 Aug 2013 08:54:46 -0700
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said Tuesday, Aug. 20, that TE Tony Gonzalez will work with the first-team offense and play extensively in his first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 24, against the Tennessee Titans. "Tony is in great shape like he always is," Smith said. "He'll play just like the rest of the starters. We're not going to have a specific number and say all starters are playing this number of snaps."

Wed, 17 Jul 2013 11:35:55 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he believes the team can have a perfect offense after adding RB Steven Jackson this offseason. "Obviously, we're led by [QB Matt Ryan]," Gonzalez said. "With him pulling the trigger, with [WR Roddy White], [WR Julio Jones], myself, we're going to try and soften up that defense a lot where they got to stand back and play off us a little bit. That is going to make big holes for a guy like Steven Jackson, and we should hopefully go out there and be the perfect offense."
Wed, 19 Jun 2013 12:08:52 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he decided to return because his son told him he owed it to himself to take another shot at winning a championship. "But really it came down to what my little 12-year-old boy said. He said, 'You know what, Dad, you got a great football team, you guys got a chance to go get a Super Bowl,' and he knows that's the only reason I'm playing at this point. So he said go back and try it one more time. So that's why I'm here, that's why I'm going to be coming back," he said. Gonzalez said he was leaning toward retirement because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez was still playing at a high level last season and will be playing in the same offense this season with the same skill position players. Gonzalez should be a strong No. 1 fantasy tight end this season.
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 11:26:36 -0700
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said TE Tony Gonzalez has been excused from participating in the team's mandatory minicamp next week.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 19:25:16 -0700
Despite the fact Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is returning for one final season in 2013, general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team will still look to tight end in the upcoming NFL Draft. "You don't deviate from your plan when you go into the draft after bringing a guy back. We don't know if we are going to have Tony Gonzalez past one year. Our eyes are still on many positions in this draft and there is no question - this may be selling it out a little bit - but we continue to look at the tight end (position)," Dimitroff said Friday, April 5.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 10:21:21 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said 2013 will be his last season even though he signed a two-year deal. He said he is a little tempted to try to break the all-time receiving record but understands it would probably take him four years to break the record.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is still a top tight end in the NFL even if he is in the latter stages of his career. He should definitely be a top-five tight end next season and should continue to be a consistent fantasy producer because he is a part of one of the best offenses in the league.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 06:43:56 -0700
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said returning for the 2013 season was the right thing to do after talking to teammates, coaches and team personnel. "Matt Ryan, Arthur Blank, Mike Smith, Roddy White, all the guys really want me back," Gonzalez said. "I went home thinking it was over, and I talked to my family and really sat down with them and discussed the pros and cons of returning, and really, I couldn't think of too many cons ... You know what? We've got a great football team, and I look forward to seeing what we can do this year."
Fri, 15 Mar 2013 10:02:29 -0700
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez agreed to a two-year, $14 million dollar contract with $7 million guaranteed. Gonzalez's cap number for 2013 is $5.25 million.
