Indians | Nick Swisher expected to begin rehab soon

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 12:40:50 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B/OF Nick Swisher (knee) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus sometime this week.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher is a FantasyScore afterthought until he returns and strings together a few solid games. He doesn't deserve attention in the majority of seasonal leagues, either.

Indians | Nick Swisher nearing rehab stint

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 18:22:10 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knee) has been playing in extended spring games since last week, and he might begin a minor-league rehab assignment with one of the team's affiliates by next week. "He could start a rehab assignment potentially sometime as early as next week," general manager Chris Antonetti said Tuesday, April 14. "It doesn't mean he's that close (to playing for the Indians). He still has to work through playing back-to-back nine-inning games, playing in the outfield and seeing how he recovers."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Swisher will be out a while, and he can spend 20 days on a rehab assignment. FantasyScore need not pay him any mind for the time being. When he returns, he might play some first base, but most of his work is expected to be in the outfield.

Indians | Nick Swisher playing OF

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 08:30:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knee) has been playing some outfield in extended spring training games.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) had just 401 plate appearances in 97 games with the Indians last year due to injuries. Swisher had hit 20-plus home runs in nine consecutive seasons before hitting just eight in 2014. With Swisher representing a major injury risk, owners should stay away, and FantasyScore owners should wait to see some results before investing.

Indians | Nick Swisher still rehabbing

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 16:41:39 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knees) is scheduled to travel to Arizona Tuesday, April 7, to continue the rehab on both of his knees. He will continue to play in extended spring training games until begins a rehab assignment in a few weeks. There is no official timetable for Swisher's return at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye out on Swisher's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) situation in order to have a better idea of when he will be able to join the lineup. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid Swisher until he is able to play on a regular basis.

Indians | Nick Swisher solid at the plate

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 21:54:27 -0700

Cleveland Indians DH Nick Swisher (knee) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in a Triple-A game Friday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher could still open the year on the disabled list, but once he is ready to join the lineup, he has enough pop in his bat to warrant consideration at FantasyScore in the right matchups.

Indians | Nick Swisher cleared for action

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 13:29:35 -0700

Cleveland Indians DH Nick Swisher (knee) will suit up for a minor league game against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher can appear in this game and still not have any issues with going on the disabled list. His recovery period will likely extend beyond the first 10 days of the regular season, so the team can still put him on the DL and back-date the day if needed. Swisher may be worth a late-round flier in AL leagues only.

Indians | Nick Swisher continues rehabbing

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 14:08:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B/OF Nick Swisher (knees) added sliding on a mat to his rehab program, after he did a round of baserunning drills Wednesday, March 25. He was scheduled to receive minor league at-bats Thursday, March 26.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) won't be ready for opening day, so he isn't a FantasyScore option to start the season. In seasonal formats, Swisher is a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues. There is potential he'll rebound after regressing in consecutive seasons, but at his age don't expect a full bounce back to his career averages. Playing time could be an issue, too, especially if he struggles early.

Indians | Nick Swisher won't be ready for opener

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 13:21:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knees) will not be ready for the regular season opener April 6 against the Houston Astros, according to manager Terry Francona and general manager Chris Antonetti. Swisher is recovering from double knee surgery last August, and he ran the bases for the first time without braces Sunday, March 22. He is expected to play right field and first base, along with designated hitter duties, in 2015. Swisher will need more at-bats before being ready for the regular season, and it's not clear how long of a rehab he'll need before rejoining the team.

Fantasy Tip: You can forget about using Swisher ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) at FantasyScore for the first week of the regular season. At 34 years old and coming off a season in which he played in only 97 games and hit eight home runs due to injury, Swisher has really fallen off the face of the fantasy baseball earth. He's a late-round flier, at best, in deep mixed leagues.

Indians | Nick Swisher to DH Wednesday

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 09:58:55 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knees) will increase the intensity of his baserunning drills Tuesday, March 24, and he's scheduled to serve as the designated hitter in a minor league game Wednesday, March 25. However, manager Terry Francona said it's "probably a little bit of a reach" to expect that Swisher will be ready on opening day.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher will cost you just $3,200 (6.4% of cap) at FantasyScore for the opening week, but because he's a big question mark to be ready for the start of the regular season, you should look to avoid him everywhere.

Indians | Nick Swisher to run again

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 14:17:28 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knees) will run the bases Sunday, March 22, without the knee braces he has worn since September. He hopes to be ready for the season opener, but he realizes that his recovery may lead into the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Swish ($3,200; 6.4% of your cap) is modestly priced for usage on FantasyScore if he returns in time for the season.
