Angels | Albert Pujols placed on DL

Sun, 28 Jul 2013 09:39:23 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have placed 1B Albert Pujols (foot) on the 15-day disabled list with a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot. In a corresponding move, the team recalled OF Kole Calhoun from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Pujols likely will be out for several weeks because of this foot injury. Owners should stash him on their bench or disabled list until he returns. Calhoun and Brad Hawpe could receive more playing time and could be options in AL-only leagues but likely will not be options in mixed leagues.

Angels | Albert Pujols aggravates left foot injury

Sat, 27 Jul 2013 11:03:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (foot) aggravated his left foot injury on a ninth-inning single Friday, July 26, against the Oakland Athletics. He will be re-evaluated by a doctor Saturday, July 27, and is in jeopardy of landing on the disabled list. "It's more sore than anything he's dealt with all season," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We'll get some direction from the doctor and see where he is."

Fantasy Tip: Pujols has been bothered by plantar fasciitis all season but continued to play through the pain and was hoping to postpone surgery until the offseason. Unfortunately, he might not have a choice now. DH Mark Trumbo will play first base in Pujols' absence, with 1B/OF Brad Hawpe expected to see increased playing time against right-handers. At this point in his career, Hawpe should only be considered as a last resort in deep AL-only leagues.
