Red Sox | Boston outfield set

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 14:04:58 -0800

Boston Red Sox OFs Mookie Betts, Rusney Castillo and Jackie Bradley Jr. are set to be the starting outfielders in 2016, with Bradley in center field, Castillo in left and Betts in right. OF Chris Young is expected to start against left-handed pitchers and mix in regularly against righties.

Fantasy Tip: After the breakout year that Betts had in 2015, he's unlikely to make it past the second round of fantasy drafts. Young is expected to platoon with Bradley the most, so those two are more of targets in deep mixed leagues. Castillo is the wild card. He has plenty of talent but only had five homers in 80 games last year. A cheap investment there could yield plenty of value.

Red Sox | Chris Young a fourth outfielder

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 09:41:25 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young is viewed as the team's fourth outfielder, according to general manager Dave Dombrowski.

Fantasy Tip: Basically Young will serve a similar role to the one he held with the New York Yankees, and Boston will likely employ him against left-handed pitchers as a noted southpaw killer. Young is valuable for outfield depth in deep mixed leagues and is typically a great value target on FantasyScore in the right matchups.

Red Sox | Chris Young lands two years

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 06:57:01 -0800

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the team Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Young hit lefties to a .327 clip last season, and they Red Sox have an abundance of talent in the outfield. Young looks pegged for a part-time role, and his fantasy value is pretty slight in mixed leagues.

Red Sox | Chris Young lands in Boston

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 10:29:17 -0800

Free-agent OF Chris Young (Yankees) agreed to a multi-year deal with the Boston Red Sox Monday, Nov. 30, pending a physical, according to sources. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Young joins a crowded and talented outfield in Boston. As of now, he'll likely be in some sort of platoon role against left-handed pitchers unless the BoSox elect to trade one of their other outfielders away. Young is a perfect FantasyScore value pick when facing lefties, as he hit .327 (50-for-153) with seven home runs against southpaws in 2015.

Red Sox | Boston interested in Chris Young

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 11:03:28 -0800

Free-agent OF Chris Young (Yankees) will visit with the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, Nov. 10, according to a major league source. Young is seeking a starting role and has received indications from Boston that they are interested in giving him significant playing time. Young hit 14 home runs with the New York Yankees this year in 356 plate appearances but only has a .314 career on-base percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Young has been a lefty killer in his career, and that continued with the Yanks in part-time duty in 2015. His overall fantasy value will increase slightly if he's given an everyday role, but it won't really change much at all in daily formats; he's still a nice value play, but only when he's facing lefties.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury out for wild-card game

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 13:20:22 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not starting the American League wild-card game Tuesday, Oct. 6, against the Houston Astros. OF Chris Young is in his place. Two fellow lefties, OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann, are in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has a .253-2-11 line against lefties, which isn't much worse than his luck against right-handers. Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) hits .300 against Astros SP Dallas Keuchel with two doubles and a triple, so he may have some more luck.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury not playing

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 08:01:46 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, Oct. 3. OF Chris Young will start in left field against SP Wei-Yin Chen and is batting fourth in the lineup, while OF Brett Gardner will start in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) likely is out of the lineup because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Young ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has five hits and one RBI over his last five games and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Chris Young batting fifth vs. Boston

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:19:11 -0700

New York Yankees OF Chris Young is starting in left field and batting fifth against Boston Red Sox SP Rich Hill Thursday, Oct. 1. OF Brett Gardner is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) handles lefties extremely well with a .327/.395/.565 slash line for the season, but Hill ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has looked nearly unhittable through his first three starts. FantasyScore players should view Young as a high-risk, high-reward option Thursday.

Yankees | Chris Young draws in vs. Boston

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 13:13:57 -0700

New York Yankees OF Chris Young is starting in left field and batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Brett Gardner is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) owns a .953 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season, so he certainly has the handedness in his favor. However, he also owns a disappointing .181/.284/.278 slash line since Saturday, Aug. 1. He is more of a flier than sure thing at FantasyScore Wednesday. Gardner ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) fell off the map since the All-Star break with a .609 OPS, and he likely isn't worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues at this point.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann out

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 13:48:46 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury and C Brian McCann are not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 25. C J.R. Murphy is batting fifth and OF Chris Young is batting sixth against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Ellsbury ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and McCann ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. Young ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Murphy ($2,500, 5.0% of cap), on the other hand, are both viable options at FanasyScore. Murphy's .471 slugging percentage against southpaws warrants attention as a low-priced flier, and Young boasts a target-worthy .964 OPS against lefties.
