Red Sox | Mookie Betts sitting vs. Colorado

Thu, 26 May 2016 12:36:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Chris Young draws into the lineup and is starting in right field and batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Betts has emerged as an elite fantasy contributor, and he tips the scales across all five standard categories. Thus far, he has 41 runs, nine home runs, 35 RBI, eight stolen bases and a .277/.318/.490 slash line. Young has gone just 5-for-29 against right-handed pitchers this season, and he should be viewed as a risky flier in daily contests Thursday.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart not in catching rotation

Fri, 20 May 2016 16:26:34 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is taking over in left field for the Red Sox despite just 11 games of experience at Class AAA Pawtucket. He will not be involved in catching duties. Cs Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan will continue to split the catching work. Swihart still sees himself as a catcher in the long run, though. Swihart has made progress on defense, but he needs to work on his pitch-calling before he's ready to get behind the plate again. Boston has been encouraged with how Swihart has transitioned to left field. He'll form a platoon there with OF Chris Young, with Young playing against left-handers.

Fantasy Tip: Swihart's bat has always been better than his glove, and he hit .274 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 84 games as a rookie in 2015. If he continues to hit and fields his position in the outfield, he could stick long term in left in the strong side of a platoon. Gaining outfield eligibility makes him more attractive as a grab off the waiver wire in deep mixed and AL-only formats.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt sitting

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:30:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 18, in the first game of a doubleheader. 3B Josh Rutledge is hitting sixth, and OF Chris Young is hitting eighth. C Ryan Hanigan is hitting ninth with C Christian Vazquez also resting.

Fantasy Tip: Young is only worth using against lefties, which Ian Kennedy is not. Rutledge is 4-for- 9 (.444) the last week and might be worth a basement flyer. Hanigan isn't worth starting in DFS.

Royals | Chris Young could be headed for DL

Wed, 11 May 2016 23:12:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young (forearm) is dealing with a strained muscle at the top of his forearm, and manager Ned Yost said Wednesday, May 11, that Young could be sidelined a week and might be a candidate for the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners won't miss Young terribly, as he has been rather uneven this season. If you're in an AL-only fantasy format you should reserve him. If you're hanging onto him in mixed leagues, drop him. Dillon Gee could be a candidate to replace him in the rotation.

Red Sox | Brock Holt with day off

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:28:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B/OF Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. OF Chris Young is starting in left field and is hitting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin.

Fantasy Tip: With so few games today, Young is worth a look as a low-priced daily flier, but his upside is limited facing a righty and not a lefty. In his career, Young has hit just .224 against righties.

Red Sox | Chris Young playing left field Saturday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:08:25 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young is batting seventh and playing left field against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Young is in the lineup because regular left fielder Brock Holt is filling in for injured SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) at shortstop Saturday. He is just 3-for-18 with an RBI and should be viewed as nothing more than an inexpensive flier option in daily fantasy contests.

Red Sox | Three BOS regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 08:16:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Brock Holt and C Christian Vazquez are out of the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Young will play left field and bat sixth, C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth and 2B Marco Hernandez will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Hanigan have combined to go 1-for-14 at the dish this year and Hernandez will be making his MLB debut this afternoon. None of these players are recommended options for daily fantasy games today.

Royals | Chris Young tuned up in Houston

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 23:55:22 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young allowed six earned runs, nine hits and two walks in just 4 2/3 innings in a loss Monday, April 11, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Young is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA through two starts, not exactly what fantasy owners had in mind when drafting him. Give him another start to turn things around. If he struggles again, reserve him and wait for him to iron out his issues.

Red Sox | Brock Holt resting Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 07:42:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Sunday, April 10. OF Chris Young is playing left field and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Holt has gotten off to a torrid start at the plate this year, batting .412 (7-for-17) with two home runs and eight RBIs. Remove him from all fantasy lineups.

Red Sox | Bad news for Rusney Castillo

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 14:18:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo will be more of a fill-in outfielder in left and center field with OF Brock Holt seeing the majority of playing time in left, according to manager John Farrell. Holt played seven positions in 2015 and hit .280 with a .727 OPS. Castillo has been a disappointment and is 10-for-44 (.227) with a .542 OPS in 16 spring games entering Tuesday, March 29. OF Chris Young is expected to play left field against left-handers.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo will basically enter as the team's fifth outfielder, which makes him more of an AL-only commodity with a chance to earn his way onto rosters in deep mixed leagues if more of an opportunity opens up. Holt is valuable mainly due to his multi-positional eligibility, which gives his owners plenty of flexibility in deeper leagues. But Holt has very limited upside without much power or hope for a high batting average.
