Red Sox | Chris Young still not running

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:36:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (hamstring) played catch Thursday, July 21, but he still is not running.

Fantasy Tip: Young was placed on the disabled list Thursday, June 23, and he currently doesn't have a firm return timeline. For now, he's only worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues because he'll likely slot back into a platoon role and start mostly against lefties. Stay tuned for updates.

Red Sox | Chris Young won't be back by break

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:14:59 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (hamstring) had an MRI Monday, June 27, that showed what manager John Farrell described as "a little bit more injury to the hamstring than the physical exam in the training room." The timetable for Young's return is unclear, but he will not return before the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Young was playing well and had fallen into everyday playing time in left field before his injury. He was batting .277 with six home runs and 15 RBI on the season and was useful in a lot of mixed leagues as a starter. Young has been known as more of a lefty killer in his career. Keep him stashed in deep mixed and AL-only leagues with Brock Holt still dealing with a concussion. Bryce Brentz has been seeing most of the time in left with Young injured.

Royals | Chris Young gets tuned up

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 21:35:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young allowed seven earned runs, seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts in just 2 1/3 innings in a loss Saturday, June 25, against the Houston Astros. He threw just 36 of his 67 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Young's ERA slipped back to 6.54, and he is now 2-7 on the season. Young has won just once over his past nine appearances with only quality start since April 22. He is only worth keeping on a roster in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues right now, and even that is debatable.

Red Sox | Chris Young placed on disabled list

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:50:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (hamstring) has been put on the disabled list Thursday, June 23. No corresponding move has been announced yet.

Fantasy Tip: Young had to leave Thursday's game early after injuring his right hamstring, which is unfortunate for him, as he was receiving regular at-bats with the Red Sox. Ryan LaMarre replaced him in the ballgame and could end up getting a considerable boost as a result of the injury. Another name to look out for is Rusney Castillo.

Red Sox | Chris Young exits with injury

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 11:37:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (hamstring) left the game Thursday, June 23, with an apparent right hamstring injury. OF Ryan LaMarre replaced him.

Fantasy Tip: Young had to be helped off the field, but it's premature to speculate how serious the injury is. LaMarre has minimal DFS appeal if he receives extra playing time.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez drops in lineup

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 13:25:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez is batting seventh in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Wednesday, June 22. OF Chris Young has moved up in the lineup and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has been on a bit of a cold streak and has recorded a .179 batting average this month. He should still be a decent starting option in most leagues despite the struggles. Young is hitting .261 over the last seven days and should have some value in deeper mixed leagues.

Red Sox | Chris Young back in the lineup

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:13:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (quadriceps) is starting in left field and batting seventh against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Because of his strong play (.286/.353/.562 slash line through 116 plate appearances) and uptick in playing time, Young's now a viable option in deep mixed leagues. Hitting in a potent lineup doesn't hurt, either. He only missed one game with the quadriceps injury so return him to your starting lineups confidently Friday.

Red Sox | Chris Young hopeful to play Friday

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 13:24:22 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Chris Young (quadriceps) has tightness in his right quadriceps but is optimistic to play against the Seattle Mariners Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Young is having a nice season with a .286/.353/.562 line in limited playing time, but he has been starting more of late. He should be owned in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Stay tuned for updates on his status, but it appears this is just a minor injury.
