San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd made it a point to maintain better positioning with his body to keep from being sandwiched headfirst in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. Floyd learned the lesson last year in a collision that ended his season. Floyd's awareness put him in a better position to absorb a hit on his touchdown catch Monday, Sept. 8.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd should be scooped up off waiver wires in standard leagues if he hasn't been already. Unfortunately, he'll have a tough assignment in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, and he could be blanketed by Richard Sherman, who wasn't targeted a single time by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. Floyd will come cheaply at FantasyScore ($3,700; 7.4% of cap), but he could easily wind up being a dud.
Tue, 09 Sep 2014 20:33:43 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd finished with four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 in his first game since suffering a career-threatening neck injury last September.
Fantasy Tip: Although Keenan Allen emerged as the team's No. 1 receiver last year while Floyd was sidelined, Philip Rivers wasted little time reconnecting with Floyd. Thanks to his 6-5 frame, Floyd can create matchup problems for defensive backs, especially in the red zone. Don't be surprised if he becomes a major part of the Chargers' passing attack this year. He faces a tough matchup against Seattle in Week 2, but considering his $3,700 salary (7.4% of cap) is the minimum for receivers in FantasyScore, he could still be worth a look.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) said it was good that he was able to work with QB Philip Rivers during offseason workouts and is looking forward to the start of training camp. "I think it's good for Philip, good for me to get that trust back," he said. "It's good for us to go through these plays right now so in training camp it'll be fluid and then you can run the plays without thinking," Floyd said. He said he is not concerned about the neck injury he suffered last season and considered it a fluke event. Floyd was considered one of the top performers during the workouts.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd likely will have a solid role in the passing game in 2014 if he is healthy. Owners could consider taking Floyd in the later round of drafts if he should he has recovered from his neck injury during training camp.

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 15:44:48 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd saw many passes go his way in practice Tuesday, June 17, as has been the case much of the offseason.
Fantasy Tip: The Chargers want to give Floyd plenty of repetitions after he missed most of last season due to injury. They'd like to get his confidence up, as well. If Floyd can remain healthy, he'll likely be the No. 2 WR in SD. However, he'll be no more than a WR4 for fantasy purposes.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd took a couple of accidental bumps from teammates today and came away unscathed. If nothing else, it could help Floyd's confidence going forward as he comes back from a neck injury.
Mon, 19 May 2014 15:57:50 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) is expecting to return to play in 2014, according to team and league sources. "The doc said … I'm at risk just like anybody else," Floyd said. "There's not really a worry. As far as going out there and performing, I'm really excited to make plays again. Hopefully, I can do more this year than I ever have. … I'm feeling good. I think I feel like my old self."
Fantasy Tip: After a year away, Floyd is likely to be the team's No. 2 or 3 receiver behind Keenan Allen. Projecting Floyd's performance is tough to gauge given the seriousness of his injury. Expect to leave him to the waiver wire in most leagues.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) is expected to miss at least a few more games, and the rough estimate is that he'll miss another month of action.
Fantasy Tip: The Chargers will play it extra cautious with Floyd's neck injury. In deeper leagues, you may want to hang onto him, especially if you can stash him in an Injured Reserve slot. Otherwise, you may want to drop him for options that will help you in the short term. Eddie Royal, Antonio Gates and Vincent Brown will all benefit from his absence, and rookie Keenan Allen could be a deep league sleeper certain weeks.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) likely will not play Week 3 after being carted off the field during the team's Week 2 game because of a neck injury.
Fantasy Tip: Eddie Royal and Antonio Gates likely will get a bump in their fantasy value while Floyd is out of the lineup. Royal has started off the season very well and should be in all starting lineup as one of the receivers or a flex option. Gates should also be considered at starting tight end in most weeks or could also be flex option.

Thu, 05 Sep 2013 15:52:12 -0700

Tue, 03 Sep 2013 12:19:53 -0700
San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead is being used as a slot receiver and caught two passes in his preseason debut against the Arizona Cardinals. WR Eddie Royal (lung, concussion) has been sidelined in the preseason with a bruised lung and concussion. WRs Vincent Brown and Malcom Floyd are expected to be the starting wide receivers in Week 1. Woodhead may join the offense in third-down situations, and WR Keenan Allen should mostly work out of the slot.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) had a second opinion for his knee injury Wednesday, Aug. 14, and the tests revealed no structural damage. The time he misses will depend upon how he feels.
Fantasy Tip: This is great news for Floyd's fantasy owners. He is expected to start opposite Vincent Brown, especially now that Danario Alexander (knee) is done for the season. Floyd won't be a top-end fantasy option, but he is a decent WR3/4 or flex option when healthy.
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 07:48:20 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) won't return until at least Week 1, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd has been rather injury-prone his entire career, and if he's not up to speed for the early part of the season, Philip Rivers and the entire offense is in trouble. With no legitimate deep threat, the Bolts will have to rely heavily on aging Antonio Gates and fellow injury report frequenter Ryan Mathews.
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 20:51:52 -0700
Updating a previous report, the MRI for San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) showed a sprain and not a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, he will undergo more testing Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 20:31:33 -0700
The San Diego Chargers fear WR Malcom Floyd (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in practice Monday, Aug. 12. He is undergoing an MRI Monday. The team already lost WR Danario Alexander (knee) to a torn ACL last week.
Fantasy Tip: If Floyd is sidelined, it is likely the team looks outside of the organization for help. Vincent Brown would have the biggest jump in fantasy value, becoming the de facto No. 1. Eddie Royal, Robert Meachem and rookie Keenan Allen would also move up the pecking order. Antonio Gates might also see more targets if he can stay on the field.
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 17:02:28 -0700
Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI shortly on a right knee injury suffered in practice Monday, Aug. 12.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (knee) was carted off the field after suffering an apparent right knee injury during practice Monday, Aug. 12. Floyd was receiving treatment on his knee for a few minutes before being carted off.
Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation because more information should be coming out over the next day or so. If the injury is serious, the fantasy values of Vincent Brown, Keenan Allen, Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal could all increase because they could get bigger roles on offense.
Wed, 07 Aug 2013 09:00:23 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown (hamstring) is likely to start opposite WR Malcom Floyd following the season-ending injury to WR Danario Alexander (knee). Tue, 25 Jun 2013 08:57:07 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen worked with the first-team offense on the final day of the team's minicamp WRs Danario Alexander and Eddie Royal dinged up with undisclosed injuries. Allen said he's comfortable with the playbook and the offense's terminology. "He's done a nice job buying into what we're doing," head coach Mike McCoy said. "It's a change for him. We're moving guys around, and the skill-position guys really need to know every position because you never know when Philip is going to check at the line of scrimmage. You have an idea where you're playing, but when it comes to a formation, Philip can audible something whenever he wants. ... You've got to know every position."
Fantasy Tip: It'll be tough for Allen to earn a starting role at a position that's probably the deepest on San Diego's depth chart. Alexander, Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown figure to rotate often, and the Chargers also have Royal and Robert Meachem. Barring an injury or unforeseen change, it's probably best to leave Allen for the waiver wire in redraft leagues.
Thu, 20 Jun 2013 17:08:37 -0700
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd said he has been running different routes under head coach Mike McCoy because the team wants QB Philip Rivers to get the ball out quicker. "I'm running different routes," Floyd said. "These coaches are really working on my lateral ability, a lot of these drills this offseason, getting in and out of my breaks. It's details like foot placement on curl routes, reprogramming my brain. ... I'm 10 years old in this league, but I feel a lot better than last year. I'm very excited about this upcoming year." Floyd was used as a vertical threat the last few seasons.
