Chargers | Malcom Floyd suffers concussion

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 15:54:56 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos and he will not return.

Fantasy Tip: It was Floyd's second concussion of the season, and the team's NFL-high 17th of the year. Floyd announced he is retiring this offseason, so it's an unfortunate way for his career to come to a conclusion.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd leaves briefly

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 20:23:03 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) was forced out of the Week 15 game against the Miami Dolphins briefly after aggravating his torn labrum. He was able to return and finish the game.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd posted one grab for 27 yards on three targets. He isn't worth using in most fantasy formats since he isn't quite 100 percent.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd posts three receptions

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 21:07:44 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd posted three receptions for 56 yards in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs. WR Javontee Herndon posted five receptions for 47 yards on seven targets, while WR Vincent Brown checked in with one grab for 22 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers wideouts have been nicked up, and Floyd is the best of the lot. He should only be trusted as a low-end WR3 or flex play going forward. Herndon and Brown aren't useful from a fantasy perspective unless Floyd also suffers an injury.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd has full range of motion

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 14:41:12 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) said he felt good the last few days in practice and has full range of motion in his injured left shoulder. Floyd said he's more worried about falling on his shoulder than taking hits to it.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is playing through a torn labrum in his shoulder, a pretty significant injury. At his age in his final season, fantasy owners shouldn't expect much production down the stretch. Floyd is a better performer in standard-scoring leagues unlike FantasyScore, too, so it's probably best to stay away.

Chargers | Probable status for three Chargers

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 13:53:24 -0800

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates (hip) and Ladarius Green (ankle) and WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) are listed as probable for Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how involved Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will be in his first game back from a torn labrum, so it might be safe to steer clear of him this week. Gates ($6,800, 13.6%) and Green ($2,900, 5.8%) have a good matchup, but Green's value is minimal with Gates playing.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd, Ladarius Green limited

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 13:12:06 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: It would be somewhat of a surprise if Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) played this week as he is still recovering from a torn labrum. Green ($2,900, 5.8%) didn't practice yesterday, so if he keeps trending upward he could take the field this weekend. Their statuses will need to be monitored heading into the weekend.

Chargers | Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd limited

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 15:48:11 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (hip) and WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) were limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Fantasy Tip: The Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chargers' Week 12 opponent, have been fairly accommodating to tight ends this year, but not as much to wide receivers. Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) may not even play as he is still recovering from a torn labrum. Gates ($6,800, 13.6%), however, is a solid option if he plays.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd out

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 11:57:28 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) didn't practice Friday, Nov. 20, and is out for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) will likely be the de facto top wide receiver, but he's an iffy play against the Kansas City Chiefs on FantasyScore.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd, Ladarius Green sit

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 15:28:20 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) was expected to miss the game anyway, and it looks like Green ($2,900, 5.8%) may be at risk of missing another contest. Antonio Gates ($6,900, 13.8%) and Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6%) should see plenty of targets in Week 11. They are both worth starting on FantasyScore.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd hopeful to return

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 22:06:42 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) said Wednesday, Nov. 18, that he is hopeful of returning this season despite suffering a torn labrum in his left shoulder. "I plan on coming back," Floyd said. "Based on the experience of all the injuries I've had, you've got to know your body and how to rehab it and get back on track."

Fantasy Tip: It's a tall order for Floyd, who previous has said he planned to retire after this season. Floyd reiterated Mike McCoy's thoughts Wednesday that the team is optimistic Floyd will be able to return.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd could play this season

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 16:50:01 -0800

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy is optimistic WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) will still be able to play again this season, but Floyd has not been cleared yet.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) probably won't play this week as he continues to heal from a torn labrum. Again, as long as he is out, Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6%) will be the Chargers' best option at wide receiver and is a nice value play on FantasyScore this week.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd improving

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 14:15:20 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) hasn't had surgery for his shoulder injury but has done platelet-rich plasma therapy and is improving.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers aren't ruling him out to make a return this year, but it's probably a long shot that Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) returns this season or his productive at all for fantasy owners. In the meantime, Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) should now be owned in all formats and is a nice value pick this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. Dontrelle Inman ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Jevontee Herndon ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) are worth a look as deep sleepers.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd still absent

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 13:03:12 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: It's still unclear if Floyd will be able to play again this season. As long as Floyd and Keenan Allen are out, Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) and Antonio Gates ($6,900, 13.8%) are great options on Fantasyscore, particularly Johnson.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd back soon?

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 11:08:00 -0800

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy hopes to have WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) back sooner rather than later. McCoy said Floyd is working hard to return this season after suffering a torn labrum in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers have been plagued by the injury bug this year, especially at wide receiver. As long as Keenan Allen and Floyd are out, Stevie Johnson has added value, especially in PPR leagues. Dontrelle Inman is also worth considering as a flyer.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd to rehab injury

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 06:17:44 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) will attempt to rehab and play through a torn labrum in what is likely his final season, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd will be out a few weeks, but he's not worth holding onto in traditional leagues. Dontrelle Inman ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be a flyer worth taking on FantasyScore after their Week 10 bye week.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd has torn labrum

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 17:46:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) suffered a torn labrum in a Week 9 loss to the Chicago Bears. It's yet to be determined whether or not the injury will cause Floyd to miss the rest of the season. Floyd has already said this season will be his last.

Fantasy Tip: This is a tough blow for Floyd and the Chargers. Floyd was San Diego's best deep threat and Keenan Allen is already out indefinitely. Antonio Gates, Stevie Johnson and Danny Woodhead will continue to be the top pass-catchers for the Chargers.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd day-to-day

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 13:30:51 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Mike McCoy. McCoy said Floyd has time to rehabilitate his shoulder injury with the upcoming bye week.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd is the Chargers' best deep threat with Allen out for a while. If Floyd is unable to take the field in Week 11, there should be another heavy dose of Antonio Gates, Stevie Johnson and Danny Woodhead.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd's career over?

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 10:30:07 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) could be done for the rest of the season after suffering an injury in Week 10 Monday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd announced at the beginning of the year that this would likely be his last season in football, so if his injury is serious, this could be it. Stevie Johnson becomes the Chargers No. 1 receiver now with Keenan Allen (kidney) also done for the year, and Dontrell Inman's fantasy value increases significantly. However, beyond Johnson, it's hard to rely on Inman or Javontee Herndon. Danny Woodhead and Antonio Gates become even more valuable in the passing attack for San Diego in what's looking like a lost season.

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 19:19:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) will not return for the second half of the Week 9 game against the Chicago Bears after suffering a first-half injury to his shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: With Floyd gone, the healthy wideouts for the Chargers are Stevie Johnson, Dontrelle Inman and Javontee Herndon.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd injures arm

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 18:13:46 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (arm) suffered an apparent left arm injury in the first half of the Week 9 game against the Chicago Bears Monday, Nov. 9. He walked to the locker room for X-rays.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd was injured attempting to make a diving catch along the left sidelines, although it's uncertain if he suffered a wrist, forearm or shoulder injury. He immediately clutched his left arm before walking off.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd to see more targets?

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 21:05:16 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd might be in line for more targets with WR Keenan Allen (kidney) out for "some time" due to a kidney injury suffered in the Week 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) already picked up the slack Sunday, snagging two touchdowns, and he could be a nice mid-tier FantasyScore option in the next couple of games.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd scores twice

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 18:39:52 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had four catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has big-play potential, but he is normally a boom-or-bust option at FantasyScore. However, he would be a much more attractive option if Keenan Allen's injury keeps him sidelined for a game or two.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd's conditioning up to par

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 10:41:28 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd is 10th in snaps among NFL receivers despite missing most of one game with a concussion. He's on pace for 967 snaps this year after a career-high 960 snaps in 2014. Head coach Mike McCoy has praised the 34-year-old Floyd for his conditioning recently. However, Floyd had just one catch on three targets on 51 snaps in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders after playing 93 snaps the week before.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is often a headache for owners in PPR leagues because of his inconsistency. That makes him a dice roll in games like FantasyScore, too. However, against the Baltimore Ravens, who allow the second-most PPR points (45.9) to receivers per game, including plenty of deep plays, Floyd is worth the gamble.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd posts 48 yards

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 22:11:14 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) had three receptions for 48 yards in the Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, Oct. 12. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) made it through the game without any setbacks after returning from concussion, but he remains the third or fourth receiver choice now that Antonio Gates is back from suspension.

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 16:24:38 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) is officially active for the Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has posted defense numbers this season but has not caught more than four passes in any game. Floyd could be a starting option for owners, but he is not expected to postbig numbers.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd questionable

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 12:24:48 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) is listed as questionable for Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steeleres.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) did have three straight practices at full participation this week, so that's the encouraging news. If Floyd is unable to go, Dontrelle Inman ($2,000, 4.0%) would see increased playing time and be worth a long look on FantasyScore.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd practices in full

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 13:27:09 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) appears to be on track to play in the Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has posted decent numbers in the first four games of the season but has not caught more than four passes in a game. Owners should be able to find better options to use.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd has no restrictions

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 14:53:26 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: It's a great sign that Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is practicing this early, and he should be ready to play Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers unless he suffers a setback. Floyd has two catches or less in three of four games this year, though, and is too streaky of a player to rely on at FantasyScore.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd on the field Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 18:32:33 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) suffered the concussion during the Week 4 game, but it looks like he has a chance to play in Week 5 because he is able to practice. Floyd has posted some solid numbers this season and could be a solid starting option for fantasy owners.

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (concussion) left the Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns in the first half due to concussion and will not return.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd intent on retirement

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 18:24:03 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd reiterated his intent to retire at the end of the 2015 season Monday, Aug. 17. "What I've said is already in stone," said Floyd.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd had his best statistical season in 2014, and he's poised to be a major piece of the Chargers' passing attack while TE Antonio Gates serves his suspension. Floyd will be an under-the-radar FantasyScore option for GPP tournaments in Week 1.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd may be in final season

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 11:14:26 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd said he may consider retirement after the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd should have a solid role in the passing game this season, but it is not known if he will start for the Chargers. Floyd could be a late-round option in standard leagues this upcoming season but has more value in standard leagues than in point-per-reception leagues.

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 11:35:53 -0700

Chargers | Questionable status for Malcom Floyd

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 14:25:58 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (calf) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for Week 6 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd is expected to play. Assuming he plays, Floyd ($3,900; 7.8% of cap) should be profitable against the Raiders. Much of Floyd's value depends on whether he can score, but he has big-play ability and could torch Oakland's secondary.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd limited

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 13:18:48 -0700

Chargers | Malcom Floyd works on limited basis

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:35:54 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (calf) had limited participation in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd was forced out of the Week 5 game due to a calf injury, and his status for Week 6 is up in the air. Check back Friday for a better idea on his playing status for Sunday. At just $3900 (or 7.8 percent of the cap), he could be a nice sleeper in FantasyScore this weekend, especially if Keenan Allen is unable to go due to his injury.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd aware of body positioning

Wed, 10 Sep 2014 14:43:47 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd made it a point to maintain better positioning with his body to keep from being sandwiched headfirst in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. Floyd learned the lesson last year in a collision that ended his season. Floyd's awareness put him in a better position to absorb a hit on his touchdown catch Monday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd should be scooped up off waiver wires in standard leagues if he hasn't been already. Unfortunately, he'll have a tough assignment in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, and he could be blanketed by Richard Sherman, who wasn't targeted a single time by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. Floyd will come cheaply at FantasyScore ($3,700; 7.4% of cap), but he could easily wind up being a dud.

Chargers | Strong return for Malcom Floyd

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 20:33:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd finished with four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 in his first game since suffering a career-threatening neck injury last September.

Fantasy Tip: Although Keenan Allen emerged as the team's No. 1 receiver last year while Floyd was sidelined, Philip Rivers wasted little time reconnecting with Floyd. Thanks to his 6-5 frame, Floyd can create matchup problems for defensive backs, especially in the red zone. Don't be surprised if he becomes a major part of the Chargers' passing attack this year. He faces a tough matchup against Seattle in Week 2, but considering his $3,700 salary (7.4% of cap) is the minimum for receivers in FantasyScore, he could still be worth a look.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd looking forward to camp

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 09:42:06 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) said it was good that he was able to work with QB Philip Rivers during offseason workouts and is looking forward to the start of training camp. "I think it's good for Philip, good for me to get that trust back," he said. "It's good for us to go through these plays right now so in training camp it'll be fluid and then you can run the plays without thinking," Floyd said. He said he is not concerned about the neck injury he suffered last season and considered it a fluke event. Floyd was considered one of the top performers during the workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd likely will have a solid role in the passing game in 2014 if he is healthy. Owners could consider taking Floyd in the later round of drafts if he should he has recovered from his neck injury during training camp.

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 09:33:08 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) said he is confident he is healthy heading into 2014. "I'm confident right now," Floyd said. "I don't have any doubts in my mind right now. It was just a fluke event."

Fantasy Tip: If Floyd can stay healthy, he should be considered a WR4 with upside. Health is the big concern here though.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd seeing plenty of action

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 15:44:48 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd saw many passes go his way in practice Tuesday, June 17, as has been the case much of the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers want to give Floyd plenty of repetitions after he missed most of last season due to injury. They'd like to get his confidence up, as well. If Floyd can remain healthy, he'll likely be the No. 2 WR in SD. However, he'll be no more than a WR4 for fantasy purposes.
