NFL | Wes Welker not retired yet

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 06:57:07 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) said he is not retired at this point but is not sure what his next step will be.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has dealt with concussions during his career, so it probably will be hard for him to find a team willing to sign him. Even if he signs with a team, he would not have much fantasy value.

Dolphins | Wes Welker could play again

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 16:55:13 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) said there is a small percentage that he could play in the NFL again, but it would have to be the right situation and team. He would need just two to three weeks to get ready.

Fantasy Tip: It's unlikely at this point that Welker will play professionally in 2016, so he can continue to be avoided.

Dolphins | Wes Welker at Miami's OTAs

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 15:53:48 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) attended the Miami Dolphins' organized team activities Monday, June 6, but head coach Adam Gase said the team is not looking to sign Welker. Gase said Welker is familiar with his offense and could help the receivers on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: Welker was limited to 13 catches for 102 yards in 2015 and still has not signed with a team this offseason. Welker will not have much fantasy value if he plays this upcoming season.

Rams | Wes Welker expected to play

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 13:41:52 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker (calf) is probable to play against the Detroit Lions in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has had very limited involvement in a really bad offense, and that shouldn't be expected to drastically change anytime soon. Stay away from him.

Rams | Wes Welker limited again

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:44:25 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker (calf) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't contributed much in his short time with St. Louis and resides in one of the worst overall offenses in the NFL. He's of no use to fantasy owners right now.

Rams | Wes Welker limited Wednesday

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 17:22:39 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker (calf) was listed as limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't had more than three catches or 32 yards in any of the four games he's played for St. Louis. That's unlikely to change with the Rams' struggles at quarterback and offense as a whole, and they're in the middle of a change at offensive coordinator, too. Avoid Welker everywhere.

Rams | Wes Welker debuts with three grabs

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 18:50:03 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker posted three receptions for 32 yards in the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Welker was just picked up this week, and he still needs to learn the offense. However, he can be useful in the short and intermediate routes, and FantasyScore players might find him useful sooner rather than later.

Rams | Wes Welker likely to be active

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 08:15:32 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker is expected to be active for Week 10's game against the Chicago Bears, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Welker could be used in third-down situations but fantasy owners shouldn't expect much out of him during his first few games as he gets accustomed to the playbook. He is not yet available in FantasyScore.

Rams | Wes Welker uncertain for Week 10

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 22:50:40 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker is practicing, but head coach Jeff Fisher said Wednesday, Nov. 11, that it will probably be a Saturday night or Sunday morning decision on whether Welker makes his debut in the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Welker likely needs a couple of weeks to get back into game shape and learn the team's playbook so don't expect much in the first couple of games. It might be December by the time he re-emerges as a solid FantasyScore options.

Rams | Wes Welker could be third-down fix

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:53:17 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Wes Welker figures to help out a Rams offense that has a league-worst 23.8% conversion rate on third downs, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Welker has spent extra time with Rams coaches and QB Nick Foles learning the playbook. "Obviously, terminology is a little bit different," Welker said. "But there's a lot of similarities to some things that I've done in the past. I'm really just trying to get on the same page of how the coaches want me to do it here and everything like that." The team wouldn't confirm whether Welker will play in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears. Welker, who has been training in Florida, said he has no concerns concussion-wise about taking the field again.

Fantasy Tip: Welker is worth a speculative grab in deeper leagues, but the argument can be made he was unsigned nine weeks into the season for a reason.

Rams | Wes Welker joins St. Louis

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 15:14:45 -0800

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the St. Louis Rams Monday, Nov. 9, according to sources. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Welker probably will see limited playing time initially because he needs time to learn the offense and build chemistry with the other offensive players. Owners probably should avoid Welker since he likely will not have a big role in the offense.

Giants | Wes Welker impressive during workout

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 10:01:58 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) was "quick" and impressive during his workout with the New York Giants earlier this week, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Coughlin said Welker is healthy and could be signed.

Giants | Hakeem Nicks, Wes Welker visiting Giants

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 06:56:32 -0700

Free-agent WRs Hakeem Nicks (Titans) and Wes Welker (Broncos) will work out with the New York Giants Tuesday, Sept. 29, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: With Victor Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) nearing a return from his calf and knee injuries, Nicks or Welker would be extremely far down the targets pecking order, if they're even signed. Currently, Nicks and Welker aren't worth fantasy attention outside of cavernous leagues where they're nothing more than desperation fliers. The Giants do have an opening after releasing Preston Parker last week, though. Check back for an official announcement.

Panthers | Wes Welker on Carolina radar?

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:39:57 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) could be a target for the Carolina Panthers. Welker lacked elusiveness with the Denver Broncos last season, and he posted a career-low 9.5 yards per catch average.

Fantasy Tip: Welker might be a shell of his former self, but of the free-agent options available he might have the most left in the tank. Plus, Cam Newton is doing to need targets with Kelvin Benjamin done for the season and rookie Devin Funchess slow to make progress. If Welker lands in Charlotte he could be worth a late-round pick on draft day.

Patriots | Wes Welker unlikely to Pats

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 16:23:18 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is unlikely to sign with the New England Patriots unless WRs Julian Edelman or Danny Amendola were injured.

Fantasy Tip: Welker can still latch on somewhere and be worth a WR5 flyer in PPR leagues, but his window of fantasy relevance is closing.

Patriots | Wes Welker open to Pats return

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 09:35:19 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) said he would be open to returning to the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's fantasy value is somewhat on life support, but in the right situation, he's still worth a WR5 flyer in PPR leagues.

NFL | Wes Welker cleared to play

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:33:44 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) has been cleared to continue his playing career by one of the top concussion doctors. Welker said he did well in all of the tests during his visit with the doctor. Welker is working out in Florida and waiting to sign with a team.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has seen his stats drop in each of the last two seasons and has also dealt with some concussions during that time. Welker could receive some interest later in the offseason but likely would not be more than a late-round pick in deeper leagues next season.

Dolphins | Wes Welker even less likely for MIA

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 17:58:10 -0700

Free agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is considered even less likely to sign with the Miami Dolphins, after Miami reportedly signed WR Greg Jennings to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has still yet to find a new home and the Dolphins were considered one of the most plausible landing destinations. Welker left his visit with Miami April 8, without a deal, and the Dolphins clearly moved on. Welker may have to accept a training-camp invite.

Dolphins | Wes Welker leaves without deal

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:37:12 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 8, without a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Welker finished the 2014 season with just two touchdown receptions, his lowest total since his sophomore season in 2006 with the Miami Dolphins. Welker has also finished the last two seasons with fewer than 100 receptions, and fewer than 1,000 receiving yards. With concussions a major concern for the 33-year-old, it wouldn't be a shock to see him begin the season without a contract in place. Any fantasy value he'll possess this season will rely on wherever he ends up.

Dolphins | Wes Welker visiting Miami

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 06:37:23 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is visiting with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: Welker defied odds with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as his quarterback, but can he thrive in an offense without them at this stage? The oft-injured receiver could still have WR4 value in a PPR format, but his concussion history is quite worrisome.

NFL | Wes Welker not popular in free agency

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 20:51:28 -0700

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is generating very little buzz on the open market, according to a league source. The lack of interest flows in part from a trend toward young receivers making an immediate impact.

Broncos | Wes Welker intends to play in 2015

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 14:41:38 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent WR Wes Welker is not planning on retiring. Welker said he's preparing for next season and added that he never said he was considering retirement, contrary to a previous report.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that Welker still plans on playing next season doesn't necessarily mean he'll play for the Broncos. He's coming off his worst season since 2006 when he played for the Miami Dolphins. Welker should be considered no more than a WR3 option in 2015 drafts, especially with his extensive concussion and injury history.

Broncos | Wes Welker considering retirement

Tue, 10 Feb 2015 19:43:10 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent WR Wes Welker is considering retirement after several years of head injuries and declining production, sources said Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Welker posted 122 catches with 1,242 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons in Denver. He used to come close to that kind of production in a single season at the pinnacle of his career. If Welker does return, it is likely to be in another city since he is an unrestricted free agent. In the right situation, he could have WR3/4 value.

Broncos | Denver not expected to re-sign Wes Welker

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 08:16:14 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent WR Wes Welker is not expected to re-sign with the Broncos this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Welker did not post any 100-yard games this season and only caught two touchdowns. He has seen his receiving yards drop each of the last three seasons. Welker's fantasy value will be determined by which team he will join during the offseason.

Broncos | Wes Welker's targets fall off

Mon, 12 Jan 2015 18:19:22 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker was targeted 64 times in 14 games this season after being targeted 110 times in 13 games the previous season.

Fantasy Tip: Welker was lost among all the weapons in Denver's passing attack this year, and at 33 years old, his days as a viable fantasy option could be behind him.

Broncos | Wes Welker figuring out future

Mon, 12 Jan 2015 18:05:01 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker said Monday, Jan. 12, that he was unsure if he wanted to return to the team when he becomes a free agent this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Welker saw his role decrease dramatically this season with the arrival of Emmanuel Sanders, and Welker's fantasy value going forward will depend on where he ends up signing.

Broncos | Wes Welker taking day off

Tue, 30 Dec 2014 14:19:20 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is taking the day off practice Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Welker had just two catches for 42 yards in Week 17, and he remains sparsely used in this offense. He should be considered nothing more than a weak flex play in the Divisional Round of the playoffs next week.

Broncos | Probable status for Wes Welker

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 13:13:56 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 12, and is probable for Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's injury isn't much of a concern at all. More of a concern for his fantasy prospects are the impending return of Julius Thomas (ankle) to the field. Thomas' presence will take what few targets Welker has away. He's a very weak flex play at FantasyScore for $4,200.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker practice

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 14:25:11 -0800

Denver Broncos WRs Demaryius Thomas (ankle) and Wes Welker (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 11, after sitting out Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' injury is more serious than Welker's, but both should play in Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers. Thomas ($7,900) remains a perfectly acceptable play at FantasyScore; he had eight catches for over 100 yards in the first matchup with SD this year. Welker ($4,200) is a shaky flex play, but he could see more targets again if Julius Thomas (ankle) is limited or doesn't play at all.

Broncos | Wes Welker not practicing

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 13:29:47 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($4,200) had one of his better games of the season in Week 14, catching six passes (six targets) for a season-high 82 yards. His increased involvement could continue if Demaryius Thomas (ankle) and Julius Thomas (ankle) remain limited, but Welker is still a pretty risky FantasyScore flex option.

Broncos | Wes Welker will play

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 14:04:28 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (non-injury) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 5, and is probable for Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($4,000) should probably be avoided at FantasyScore against the Bills. The veteran wide receiver is only good for a few short-yardage passing plays a game these days.

Broncos | Wes Welker back at practice

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 14:58:01 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (non-injury) returned to a full practice Thursday, Dec. 4, after sitting out Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($4,000) will play against the Buffalo Bills, but he remains a weak flex play at FantasyScore because of his limited involvement in the team's passing attack.

Broncos | Wes Welker resting

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 15:05:56 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (non-injury) took the day off practice Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Welker isn't dealing with an injury, so that's good news for his owners. However, he just doesn't see enough targets to be a viable weekly lineup option. Consider Welker a weak play at FantasyScore this weekend against the Buffalo Bills for $4,000.

Broncos | Wes Welker limited Wednesday

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 11:20:01 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (undisclosed) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 3. Welker played 57 of the team's 83 offensive snaps in Week 13 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($4,000) just doesn't see enough targets in this offense to make him a worthy play for FantasyScore lineups, especially if Julius Thomas (ankle) returns this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.

Broncos | Wes Welker probable for Week 10

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 14:05:53 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is probable for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($5,000; 10.0% of cap) looks healthy enough to return against the Raiders. The matchup is great, but Welker isn't receiving enough targets in this offense to warrant much more than a weak flex selection at FantasyScore.

Broncos | Full practice for Wes Welker

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 15:26:44 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Welker should play against the Oakland Raiders in Week 10. However, for a price of $4,500 at FantasyScore, you'll likely find more consistent options for your lineups. Welker's targets and catches are way down with more dynamic weapons at Peyton Manning's disposal.

Broncos | Full practice for Wes Welker

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 14:57:14 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's injury doesn't look to be very serious, so he should have a good shot at returning in Week 10 to face the Oakland Raiders. The matchup is nice, but Welker's involvement in the passing game has been few and far between this year. Consider him a weaker flex option for your FantasyScore lineups.

Broncos | Wes Welker practicing

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 10:55:04 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has not posted big numbers in any game this season since the team has several receivers they use in the passing game. Owners would have to spend $4,500 on Welker at FantasyScore, but they may want to use their money on a more consistent option.

Broncos | Wes Welker day-to-day

Tue, 04 Nov 2014 09:40:04 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) is being listed as "day-to-day" by head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's injury doesn't appear to be too serious, but he could be a question mark for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. The matchup is a nice one, but Welker is a risk at FantasyScore if he's not 100 percent.

Broncos | Wes Welker has back bruise

Mon, 03 Nov 2014 13:04:22 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (back) suffered a back bruise in Sunday's contest against the New England Patriots. The timetable for his return was undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has been the most disappointing starting receiver on the team by far this year and continues to struggle with staying healthy. If he is able to go against the Oakland Raiders, it still might be best to pass on him unless he's dirt cheap on FantasyScore.

Broncos | Wes Welker an afterthought in Week 8

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 10:21:18 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker had just two catches for five yards on two targets in Week 8, and he's averaging just 36 yards per game this year, which is less than half his average (77) in the last seven seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's usage in the offense is at an all-time low. With other more explosive and athletic weapons in the aerial game at Peyton Manning's disposal, Welker is mainly used for key third-down conversions. He's a weak flex play in deeper leagues moving forward.

Broncos | Wes Welker good to go

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 07:01:57 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) had no setbacks in practice this week and will play Sunday, Sept. 11. However, there's no guarantee on number of snaps he'll receive in a crowded offense.

Fantasy Tip: Welker ($3,700; 7.4% of your cap) is a bargain buy on FantasyScore this week, but one has to wonder how much he'll produce as the fourth or fifth option in the offense.

Broncos | Wes Welker ready to play

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 11:37:17 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) has practiced with the team all week and is ready to play in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. He practiced in full all week, and he's listed as probable for Sunday, Sept. 21. "It's been great," head coach John Fox said of Welker's work this week. "He's a veteran guy that attacks preparation, and he's had a great week." Welker is expected to play, but he may not see a normal number of snaps as he would have if he had practiced more with the team before his suspension.

Fantasy Tip: You won't have to decide whether to spend on Welker at FantasyScore this week, since he's not eligible. However, he should be in all standard league rosters this weekend.

Broncos | Wes Welker's health a non-issue

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 10:32:59 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) practiced with the team Wednesday, Sept. 17, which was his first on-field work since Labor Day, and he said he was cleared medically "about a week or so ago." "I appreciate their concern, I do," Welker said. "But at the same time, I feel great. I feel sharp and ready to go." Head coach John Fox said that Welker's suspension, from a health perspective, may have been a "blessing in disguise" for Welker.

Fantasy Tip: Welker's health is great news. He probably won't be overworked in his first game back against the Seattle Seahawks, though, especially since the team has their bye in Week 4. He won't be eligible to play in your lineup at FantasyScore this weekend, either.

Broncos | Wes Welker not committing to Week 3

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 14:06:08 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker feels great physically and is ready to return to the team, but he stopped short of committing to playing in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. "That's a coach's decision," Welker said. " ... I'm preparing like I'm going to play." Welker was back on the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has been physically cleared and is going through the game plan with the team this week, so we'd expect him to suit up against the Seahawks. You won't have to worry about Welker at FantasyScore this week, since he's not eligible, but plan to return him to your standard lineups if he's active.
