Yankees | Stephen Drew struggling this spring

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 19:55:58 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew went 0 for 3 and struck out twice Sunday, March 22, and he is hitting .161 this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Drew is going to open the season as the starter at second base, but he could be replaced sooner rather than later and isn't likely to provide worthwhile fantasy numbers while he is starting.

Yankees | Stephen Drew a starter

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:42:08 -0700

New York Yankees SS Stephen Drew will officially be the team's starting second baseman to open the season, according to manager Joe Girardi. Drew hit just .162 in 2014, and the Yankees plan to have a short leash with Drew if he struggles early in the year, according to a source. 2Bs Jose Pirela and Robert Refsnyder aren't fighting for a starting spot, but they are battling to be the first called up if Drew struggles. Girardi doesn't think Drew will have a problem with the transition from shortstop to second base.

Fantasy Tip: Drew has virtually no upside as a fantasy asset, and he should not be considered in standard 12-team leagues, especially if his leash is short at second. If you're speculating in very deep mixed or AL-only leagues, Refsnyder is the better bet to make an impact as a middle infielder on your roster.

Yankees | Stephen Drew slated for 2B duties

Thu, 29 Jan 2015 09:46:22 -0800

New York Yankees SS Stephen Drew projects as "hopefully our everyday second baseman," according to general manager Brian Cashman. The Yankees are banking on SS Didi Gregorius being their full-time starting shortstop in 2015. Drew hit just .162 in 271 at-bats between the Boston Red Sox and the Yankees last year. "Hopefully, he can put last year behind him and be the player he was before then," Cashman said. "He has a history of being a really good player prior to a season that didn't play out the way anybody expected." Drew starting at second base could block 2Bs Jose Pirela and Robert Refsnyder from playing time.
