Nationals | Danny Espinosa likely to be regular SS

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 17:03:43 -0800

Washington Nationals INF Danny Espinosa is considered the favorite to replace free-agent SS Ian Desmond as the team's starting shortstop, according to multiple sources. However, general manager Mike Rizzo said INFs Stephen Drew and Trea Turner will also have an opportunity to win the job during spring training.

Fantasy Tip: In 118 regular-season games last season, Espinosa hit .240 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs. He has decent pop for a middle infielder and his versatility should make him a useful player to have off the bench in NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues, although he won't hit for a high average and isn't as much of a threat on the basepaths as he was several years ago. Turner is considered to be the Nats' shortstop of the future and will probably begin the 2016 season in the minors. His progress should be monitored in NL-only, deep mixed and dynasty leagues.

Nationals | WAS signs veteran Stephen Drew

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 20:49:12 -0800

The Washington Nationals signed free-agent 2B Stephen Drew (Yankees) to a one-year deal worth $3 million Tuesday, Dec. 29, according to sources. The deal also includes $1.25 million in incentives.

Fantasy Tip: With Danny Espinosa and the newly signed David Murphy in the mix, it's hard to see where Drew fits in. He might float around and provide others breathers, but he is unlikely to start regularly.

Yankees | Stephen Drew doubtful for playoffs

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 18:12:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew (concussion) has been diagnosed with a vestibular concussion and is unlikely to see any playing time during the postseason. The injury has caused him dizziness and loss of equilibrium for nearly one month.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) hit .201 with 17 home runs and 44 RBIs in 383 at-bats this season and can be dropped in all fantasy formats. Dustin Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) and Rob Refsnyder ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) have been platooning at the keystone position in Drew's absence, with Ackley facing most righties and Refsnyder facing most lefties.

Yankees | Stephen Drew's season over?

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 15:17:24 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew (concussion) needs more concussion tests, and manager Joe Girardi didn't sound optimistic that Drew would return this year. Drew has suffered through dizziness and equilibrium problems and hasn't played in more than a week. Girardi isn't expecting Drew to return. Drew will be a free agent this winter and may not return to the Yankees. 2Bs Dustin Ackley and Rob Refsnyder have been rotating at second base in a platoon arrangement.

Fantasy Tip: You can forget about Drew ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) playing again this year and ignore him on FantasyScore. Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) and Refsnyder ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) are merely deep sleepers in a great matchup.

Yankees | Stephen Drew sidelined

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 04:13:48 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew (illness) will be sidelined for the next week to 10 days due to a bad cold and dizziness.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will be unavailable into postseason play, which opens up a hole in the middle of the infield. Keep an eye on Dustin Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap), who could get several spot starts down the stretch and might be a solid FantasyScore play due to his lower price.

Yankees | Dustin Ackley playing regularly

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 18:27:04 -0700

New York Yankees 2B/OF Dustin Ackley might be playing second base frequently, according to manager Joe Girardi. While the skipper would not commit to Ackley as the new everyday second baseman, the plan appears to be using Ackley against all right-handed pitchers with SS Stephen Drew used only as a late-inning defensive replacement.

Fantasy Tip: Ackley ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is a bargain at this price level, especially since he can be slotted as an outfielder in FantasyScore. He'll save you valuable salary to allocate to other positions.

Yankees | Stephen Drew on the bench

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 08:08:04 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Saturday, Sept. 5. SS Brendan Ryan will start at second base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely is receiving a day off Saturday. Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .214 this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Yankees | No Stephen Drew vs. Boston

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:03:03 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 31. 2B Brendan Ryan is starting at second base and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Drew ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, and light-hitting Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation source of cap relief at FantasyScore. After all, Ryan owns a .214/.278/.291 slash line over the past six seasons.

Yankees | Big game for Stephen Drew

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 17:54:09 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew went 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored and two walks in a 20-6 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, Aug. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has been an all-or-nothing option at FantasyScore this season, and that isn't going to change between now and the end of the year.

Yankees | Stephen Drew sitting Tuesday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:17:05 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Houston Astros. 2B Brendan Ryan is batting ninth against Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is out due to the lefty vs. lefty matchup, so he should not be in your FantasyScore lineup. Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitless against Keuchel and carries no fantasy value.
