Yankees | Jose Pirela starting at keystone

Tue, 19 May 2015 13:13:18 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Jose Pirela is starting at second base and hitting seventh in the batting order against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Tuesday, May 19. SS Didi Gregorius is on the bench, and 2B Stephen Drew has shifted over to shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Both Pirela ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) qualify as low-end second base options at FantasyScore.

Yankees | Jose Pirela starting at keystone

Thu, 14 May 2015 12:54:06 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Jose Pirela is starting at second base and hitting ninth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Thursday, May 14. 2B Stephen Drew is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has just 14 at-bats this year (five hits), but he could eventually take more time away from the struggling Drew at second base. Until Pirela shows us more and sees more consistent playing time, he's merely a low-end flyer at FantasyScore.

Yankees | Chase Headley not in lineup

Wed, 13 May 2015 12:47:20 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. 2B Stephen Drew will start at third base for the Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Headley ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has recorded a hit in five of the last six games but should not be a great option on FantasyScore since he is only batting .184.

Yankees | Stephen Drew works out at 3B

Tue, 12 May 2015 22:39:49 -0700

New York Yankees INF Stephen Drew took grounders at third base before the game Tuesday, May 12, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is expected to see time backing up 3B Chase Headley.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($2,100; or 4.2% of cap) has struggled with the twig and is not worth using in FantasyScore unless he starts to see regular starts and hits with some consistency. That hasn't happened in a while.

Yankees | Didi Gregorius not in lineup

Sat, 09 May 2015 09:03:02 -0700

New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 9. 2B Stephen Drew will be the starting shortstop for the Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Gregorius ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has struggled at times at the plate and is receiving a day off. Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is only hitting .179 but does have four home runs and 10 RBI. Owners on FantasyScore may be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Yankees | Jose Pirela starting Friday

Fri, 08 May 2015 13:15:38 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Jose Pirela will be the starting second baseman against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, May 8. 2B Stephen Drew is sitting out the game.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) had a solid debut Wednesday, May 6, when he went 2-for-4. Owners on FantasyScore could see him as a cheaper option but should be able to find a better option to use.

Yankees | Jose Pirela making debut

Wed, 06 May 2015 14:28:20 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Jose Pirela is making his season debut at second base and is hitting ninth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Wednesday, May 6. SS Didi Gregorius is not in the lineup, while SS Stephen Drew shifts over to shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) had eight hits in 24 at-bats (.333) in seven games last year. He could eventually take more starts away from Drew at second base if the veteran continues to struggle. Look to add Pirela for help in AL-only leagues. Pirela can save you plenty of loot at FantasyScore tonight against a struggling pitcher, but he's merely a shot in the dark.

Yankees | Jose Pirela to be activated Wednesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 16:03:03 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Jose Pirela will be activated for the game Wednesday, May 6, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Joe Girardi said he will take things day-by-day regarding choosing starters between Pirela, incumbent 2B Stephen Drew and SS Didi Gregorius.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) was hitting .579 through 20 at bats for Class AAA, with one home run and zero strikeouts. With Drew and Gregorius both struggling, Pirela could make a strong case for playing time if he's able to get off to a quick start at the major league level. Owners in deep leagues or AL-only leagues can go ahead and scoop up Pirela, while moderate-sized, mixed league owners should keep a watchful eyes on the Yankees' daily lineups.

Yankees | Stephen Drew slumping

Tue, 05 May 2015 15:56:13 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew is 0-for-17 in his last five games played heading into Tuesday, May 5, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will make for an excellent GPP option as he goes up against Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada, who went 7-6 with a 4.96 ERA for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. Estrada has allowed just one home run in 10 and two-thirds innings pitched, but is one year removed from allowing a major league-worst 29.

Yankees | Stephen Drew hitting fifth Monday

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:19:01 -0700

New York Yankees SS Stephen Drew is hitting fifth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has continued his poor offensive showing from last year, hitting just .155 (11-for-71) with four home runs and 10 RBI. Most FantasyScore gamers won't be on Drew's scent tonight, but he could come in handy as a nice value play against Dickey, who Drew is 6-for-18 against in his career with one RBI.
