Angels | Jered Weaver to start Friday

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 15:04:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (shoulder) will make the start against the Texas Rangers Friday, Oct. 2, after he dealt with some shoulder tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) hasn't gone deeper than six innings in any of his last 11 starts and is sporting a 4.76 ERA on the season. Against a playoff team on the road in a hitter-friendly venue is not the time to roll the dice on him.

Angels | Jered Weaver eyeing Friday start

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:55:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (shoulder) said his shoulder is feeling better after playing catch Tuesday, Sept. 29, and he'll likely throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Sept. 30. Weaver will try to make his next start Friday, Oct. 2, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) has been a very shaky FantasyScore pitcher this year with a drastic drop in velocity and a 4.76 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. The lack of strikeouts (5.2 per nine innings) really has hurt his fantasy value, and he's not attractive against the Rangers on the road this Friday in a hitter-friendly venue.

Angels | Pitching injuries mounting for Angels

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 15:25:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SPs Jered Weaver (shoulder) and Matt Shoemaker (forearm) and RPs Huston Street (groin) and Joe Smith (ankle) are all nursing injuries.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels signed free-agent Mat Latos, but his role will be fluid and largely depend on the status of Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) and Shoemaker ($5,600, 11.2% of cap). Street will not pitch again during the regular season, and Smith is questionable. The closing duties are expected to be split up, too, so there isn't a lot of value chasing saves from the Los Angeles bullpen. Stay tuned for updates on Shoemaker and Weaver.

Angels | Jered Weaver falls to defeat

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 04:38:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver lasted 5 2-3 innings against the Houston Astros, giving up five runs and nine hits. Weaver also surrendered homers to C Evan Gattis and SS Carlos Correa in the 6-3 loss Monday, Sept. 21. Weaver struck out five and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) had been 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA at home against the Astros, so chalk this start up to facing Astros SP Dallas Keuchel and his unbeaten home record.

Angels | Jered Weaver ejected for HBP

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 22:46:36 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver was ejected Wednesday, Sept. 16, against the Seattle Mariners for hitting 3B Kyle Seager with a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk over 4 2/3 innings before departing. FantasyScore owners certainly didn't get their money's worth in this one.

Rangers | Bobby Wilson starting Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 17:25:37 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bobby Wilson will bat ninth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Saturday, Sept. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) can be ignored at FantasyScore. He is hitting .200 with no home runs in 46 games.

Angels | Jered Weaver healthy, more effective

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 10:36:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver is one of the slowest-throwing pitchers in the league this year, but he has been dominating hitters with a fastball that tops out in the low- to mid-80s since returning from the disabled list. He has a 2.08 ERA with 15 strikeouts and two walks in 17 1/3 innings in his last three starts, and he credits his better results to better health. With his hip acting up earlier this year, he was unable to use his unusual delivery in which he throws across his body to trick hitters. A massage therapist worked to loosen up Weaver's muscles through exercises and stretching. Weaver's deception and command have returned now that he is looser and healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver's ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) low velocity will likely scare most off on FantasyScore, but if he continues to locate, he could continue to surprise and rack up more strikeouts. Still, he'll continue to be a risk/reward start, including for his matchup tonight against the Detroit Tigers.

Angels | Jered Weaver to start Sunday

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 11:07:42 -0700

Confirming a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (hip) will be activated from the disabled list to pitch against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA through 15 starts. A decrease in velocity has led to him being more hittable this season than in years past and he is a very risky play in FantasyScore.

Angels | Jered Weaver could return Sunday

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 16:30:39 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (hip) could return from the disabled list and start against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, Aug. 9, as manager Mike Scioscia said there's "definitely a chance." Weaver is throwing a bullpen session Friday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) will be taking the rotation spot vacated by C.J. Wilson (elbow). Weaver's reduced velocity has led to him being extremely hittable this year and a disappointment to his fantasy owners. We don't recommend starting him against the Baltimore Orioles in his first start back on FantasyScore.

Angels | Jered Weaver looking better

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 12:23:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (hip) allowed four runs (1.93 ERA) in 9 1/3 innings in his two rehab starts in the minor leagues while striking out seven, walking four and giving up six hits. Manager Mike Scioscia said Weaver is in a much better place now and could return to the starting rotation early next week. Weaver said his hip felt fine and he's ready to return to the Angels.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($$5,000, 10.0% of cap) must first prove to fantasy owners that he can be effective in the majors leagues again before they'll trust him in any format. A diminished velocity and few strikeouts this year have made him a fantasy afterthought. You should definitely consider him a big risk in his first start back off the DL.
