Mets | Neil Walker snaps drought

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 19:32:16 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker snapped a five-game hitless drought, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk in a 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has decent pop for a middle infielder, and he is worth owning in most mixed leagues.

Mets | Could Neil Walker play third base?

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 04:55:23 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker may be shifted to third base for some games in order to free up second base for a possible return of free-agent SS Jose Reyes (Rockies), among other rumors.

Fantasy Tip: The far more credible rumor is Walker playing third would put an established veteran at the hot corner while 3B David Wright recovers. His .257-14-28 line makes Walker a viable fantasy player in all formats, and the added bonus would be increased position eligibility.

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a run scored in his return from a three-game absence Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Walker offers solid pop for a middle infielder and should be owned in all formats.

Mets | Neil Walker, Michael Conforto return

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 12:53:44 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) and OF Michael Conforto (wrist) are both back in the lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio Thursday, June 16. Walker is batting fifth, and Conforto is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Return Walker to your starting lineups and continue to view him as a viable starter at the keystone in the majority of leagues. Conforto, on the other hand, is mired in lengthy slump with a .150/.212/.308 slash line since Sunday, May 1. He cannot be started with confidence until he turns it around at the dish.

Mets | Neil Walker an option at third base?

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 12:30:33 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker is willing to play third base, if needed, but he has yet to take ground balls at the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Walker adding eligibility at third base would be a small fantasy boost, and his versatility could be helpful for the Mets. It currently looks like a long shot, though. Continue to view Walker as a viable starting option at the keystone in all fantasy leagues.

Mets | Neil Walker having back checked out

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 13:26:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) is visiting a doctor to have his lower back examined Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Before the injury, Walker was just 7-for-31 without a home run or RBI through 10 games in June. So, perhaps the injury has been lingering. Don't make any hasty roster decisions yet, but Walker could be eyeing a trip to the disabled list, if he can't return to the lineup soon. Kelly Johnson and Matt Reynolds are candidates for more playing time in that case, but neither are strong fantasy options.

Mets | Neil Walker out vs. Pirates

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 12:17:15 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. INF Matt Reynolds is starting at second base and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Walker hasn't played since Saturday, June 11, when he left the game with back tightness. He should return soon, but if he doesn't, a stint on the disabled list could be the result. Reynolds is nothing more than a depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Mets | Neil Walker not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:57:00 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) is out of the game Tuesday, June 14, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 2B Kelly Johnson will start and hit fifth against Pirates SP Jameson Taillon.

Fantasy Tip: Between this and a .176 average in the past week, Walker might be due for a rest. Johnson is 3-for-8 with a home run against the Pirates, so he may be worth the flyer in DFS leagues.

Mets | Three Mets starters sitting out

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 09:42:49 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker, SS Asdrubal Cabrera and C Rene Rivera are not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, June 12. INF Matt Reynolds will start at shortstop and is batting second. 2B Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting fourth, while C Kevin Plawecki will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki and Johnson have posted decent numbers over the last seven days. Johnson should be considered by owners in daily fantasy lineups, while Plawecki can be used in two-catcher leagues. Reynolds is not a strong fantasy option and should be avoided in all leagues.

Mets | Neil Walker leaves with back tightness

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 15:30:01 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (back) left the game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the bottom of the fourth inning Saturday, June 11, with lower back tightness. Newly acquired INF Kelly Johnson was called upon to replace Walker.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a rough three days for Walker, who took a hard-hit grounder off his chest on Thursday that some feared initially may have broken a rib and ended up leaving the second baseman light-headed. It is much too early to speculate whether or not Walker is going to need a stint on the disabled list, but the Mets do have top prospect Dilson Herrera waiting in the wings. Until New York makes a move in that direction, however, owners would be advised to play Johnson if Walker is forced to miss only a day or two.
