Athletics | Billy Butler struggles against Masterson

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:04:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler is just 9-for-43 with 13 strikeouts in his career against Boston Red Sox SP Justin Masterson. Masterson faces the A's Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has cooled off a bit after a hot April (.287-3-12). It makes sense to avoid him at FantasyScore this evening against a pitcher that he's struggled with in his career.

Athletics | Billy Butler back after rest

Mon, 04 May 2015 19:45:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler entered the game Monday, May 4, against the Minnesota Twins with no hits over his 20 at-bats, and just one knock in the past 31 at-bats. He had a day off Sunday, May 3, and he worked on his hitting in the cage.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners would be wise to avoid Butler ($3,700; 7.4% of cap) until he is able to get untracked and piece together a few decent games in a row.

Athletics | Billy Butler slumping

Mon, 04 May 2015 10:06:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler, who was given the day off Sunday, May 3, is mired in an 0-for-20 slump. He's expected to return to the starting lineup Monday, May 4, to face Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes. Butler is 8-for-30 with a home run and three doubles against Hughes in his career.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) probably won't draw a lot of FantasyScore eyes tonight while in the midst of a slump, but you could choose to take him on and zig when others zag because of his good career numbers against Hughes.

Athletics | Billy Butler not in lineup

Sun, 03 May 2015 11:10:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 3. OF Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Billy Burns will be starting at center field.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is off to a solid start and likely is receiving a day off. Billy Burns had a solid debut in the last game but is not a great option at this point.

Athletics | Billy Butler on eight-game hitting streak

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 11:04:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler has hit safely in each of the team's first eight games of the season and is the only American League player with an eight-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is off to a scorching start to the year (.387, 12-for-31), and you should ride him at FantasyScore while he's hot. He has a tempting matchup against Houston Astros starter Brad Peacock Tuesday, too.

Athletics | Platoon at 1B for A's?

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 11:09:30 -0800

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter this year against right-handed pitchers, and he'll also play some first base against lefties. 1B Ike Davis will be the primary first baseman against righties, but 1B Mark Canha could also see some time at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Butler's move to O.co Coliseum likely won't be good for his power numbers after he clubbed only nine homers last year in KC in 151 games. Butler also saw a career low average of .271. He's not very intriguing for mixed league owners at a position that is ripe with power. Davis' platoon problems likely make him strictly an AL-only commodity.

Athletics | Ike Davis feeling stronger

Mon, 09 Feb 2015 13:43:03 -0800

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (illness) said he's feeling stronger this year than he has the last few years that he dealt with Valley Fever. "Valley fever is a nightmare," Davis said. "You have no energy, no nothing. It was definitely a weird one. It's supposed to go away on its own, but when I had an X-ray last year, it showed I still had it. I'm hoping that's over and done with." There's no guarantee that Davis will get 500-600 at-bats this year, though. Right now, Davis is slated to start against left-handed pitchers, with DH Billy Butler playing first against righties.
