Twins | Glen Perkins struggling

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 18:24:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins has allowed at least one run in four of his six appearances since the All-Star break after allowing just five runs in 38 appearances before the break.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins isn't in danger of losing his closing duties just yet, but if his downward trend continues, the Twins could be forced to make a move.

Twins | Glen Perkins rebounds

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:12:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins rebounded with a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, July 30, after blowing two saves out of the All-Star break while allowing six earned runs. The Twins on Friday, July 31, acquired RP Kevin Jepsen from the Tampa Bay Rays to bolster their bullpen in front of Perkins. Right-handed hitters are batting just .192 against Jepsen this year, but he has a 4.60 ERA in his last 18 outings going back to June 11.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins was due to face a rough patch after being perfect in save chances in the first half of the season. He isn't in any danger of being bumped from ninth-inning duties, though. Jepsen is in a rough patch of his own but could be Minnesota's primary eighth-inning setup man for Perkins. Jepsen has very minimal fantasy value in the deepest of setups.

Twins | Glen Perkins blows first save

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 06:39:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins blew his first save of the season Saturday, July 18, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins hadn't allowed a run since May 29, and his job remains one of the safest in the league.

Twins | Glen Perkins perfect in first half

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 10:04:55 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins was 28-for-28 in save chances in the first half of the season, and he leads the American League in saves. Perkins' career high for saves was 36 in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins has been a great value pick for his owners in the first half of the season. He's surely due for more headaches in the second half of the season, but as long as he's healthy, he should remain as the team's closer for the rest of 2015.

Twins | Glen Perkins has banner May

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 06:30:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins was 13-for-13 in save opportunities in May, which set a franchise record for saves in a calendar month.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins is 19-for-19 on the season with a sparking 1.88 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. His K-rate has dipped to 7.88 K/9, which leaves a bit to be desired, but he's one of the best closers in fantasy baseball right now.

Twins | Glen Perkins bounces back

Sun, 31 May 2015 18:59:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (arm) returned from a one-game absence and picked up his 19th save in as many chances in a 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins had a rough outing Friday, May 29, and was unavailable Saturday. However, he showed no lingering effects Sunday and should be safe to deploy going forward.

Twins | Blaine Boyer picks up save

Sat, 30 May 2015 17:50:07 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Blaine Boyer picked up his first save of the season Saturday, May 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays because RP Glen Perkins (arm) was not available.

Fantasy Tip: Boyer has been solid out of the pen this year, but there is nothing in his history that suggests he can sustain his current 2.19 ERA. However, it appears that he is next in line to handle the ninth inning, and if Perkins needs to miss time, Boyer is worth a flier if you are hunting for saves.

Twins | Glen Perkins has arm issue

Sat, 30 May 2015 17:43:42 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (arm) said his arm did not feel fresh and was not available against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, May 30, but manager Paul Molitor said he should be available Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins was shelled Friday, but his overall numbers remain stout. For now, the arm issue appears minor, but Blaine Boyer picked up the save Saturday and is worth keeping in mind of Perkins misses extended time.

Twins | Glen Perkins pitches in game

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 10:39:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (oblique) threw a scoreless inning and allowed a hit in a minor league game Thursday, March 19. He threw nine of his 14 pitches for strikes and was between 90 and 93 mph on the radar gun. Perkins is expected to pitch again Saturday, March 21, and Tuesday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins seems to be recovered from his oblique ailment, and if he doesn't have any setbacks, he should be ready to pitch on opening day. Consider Perkins a midrange closing option for your fantasy squad, and he may come at a discount because he's dealt with an injury in camp.

Twins | Glen Perkins throws 'pen

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 11:32:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (oblique) had a successful bullpen session with no setbacks Tuesday, March 17, and he'll pitch in a minor league game Thursday, March 19. Perkins has been dealing with a mild right oblique strain. He could make his spring debut this weekend if all goes well Thursday. Perkins is expected to be ready for the start of the season if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Because he's a reliever, Perkins doesn't need many innings or outings in spring training to be regular season-ready. Right now, he may be going at a nice value in fantasy drafts as a midrange closing option. Take advantage if you can.
