Twins | Glen Perkins encouraged with rehab

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 15:41:38 -0800

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) is encouraged by his offseason workouts with a core specialist, and he has been long tossing in Florida. There are no lingering neck or back issues for him.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins managed 32 saves last year but struggled in the second half, mainly because of his injury. But that's two straight years with rugged finishes, and the lefty could be in decline at age 32. Grab Kevin Jepsen as a handcuff if Perkins finds his way onto your fantasy roster.

Twins | Glen Perkins to remain closer

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 16:05:56 -0800

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins will remain the closer heading into the 2016 season, with RP Kevin Jepsen serving as the setup man, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Despite saving 30-plus games in each of the last three seasons, Perkins' stock is on the decline after dealing with injuries that threatened his production and job status for the Twins. He won't be among the most popular saves targets in traditional fantasy leagues next year, and you'd be wise to handcuff Jepsen to him if you choose to select him.

Twins | Glen Perkins returns

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 18:09:56 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) made his first appearance since Sept. 1, striking out the only batter he faced against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins is worth stashing in case he regains the closer role before the end of the year, but his role going forward remains to be seen.

Twins | Glen Perkins on track for Friday

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 14:36:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) threw a 36-pitch bullpen session with fastballs and sliders, and he remains on track to return Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins hasn't made an appearance since Tuesday, Sept. 1, so a small adjustment period may be in store when he returns. View Perkins as a mid-tier closer, but if there are struggles early, he might not have a long leash with the Twins eyeing the playoffs.

Twins | Glen Perkins tosses bullpen session

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 14:43:04 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session without any issue Monday, Sept. 14. He is expected to throw another session Wednesday, Sept. 16, before returning Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins last pitched Tuesday, Sept. 1, so there may be an adjustment period when he returns, especially considering he had allowed 10 runs over his previous 13 innings before the injury. Perkins should be viewed as a mid-tier closer, but with the Twins in a playoff race, he might not have a long leash, especially if he struggles early upon his return.

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 17:01:59 -0700

Minnesota Twins CL Glen Perkins (back) received a cortisone injection in his back Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to manager Paul Molitor. The team still expects him to return to action before the end of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Kevin Jepsen will continue to serve as the Twins' closer while Perkins is sidelined and he should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Twins | Injection coming for Glen Perkins?

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 14:56:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) saw a back specialist, and he's deciding if he needs to receive an injection.

Fantasy Tip: More bad news for those that own Perkins. Hopefully you were able to snatch up Kevin Jepsen, who is serving as Minnesota's closer in the meantime. If things go further south for Perkins, there's a chance we don't see him at all again this year.

Twins | Glen Perkins making progress

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 18:58:05 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) is progressing slowly, manager Paul Molitor said Monday, Sept. 7. According to beat writer Rhett Bollinger it appears less and less likely Perkins will re-join the team on its current road trip.

Fantasy Tip: With Perkins on the mend, Kevin Jepsen is handling the ninth-inning duties. If you need some cheap saves he is worth an add in AL-only fantasy leagues which allow daily moves.

Twins | Glen Perkins bothered by back spasms

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 18:18:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) said he could "barely walk" and is unsure how he ended up with back spasms. He is out indefinitely and will not accompany the team on their upcoming road trip.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for further updates on Perkins' status. Kevin Jepsen will handle any save opportunities for the Twins in his absence and he should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Twins | Glen Perkins being rested

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 10:52:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) will be rested against the Chicago White Sox Thursday, Sept. 3, as he is being bothered by back spasms for the second time in a week. He also won't travel with the team to begin their series against the Houston Astros Friday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Although Perkins is second in the American League with 32 saves this year, he also has an ERA of 2.68 and is limping toward the finish line. Don't rule out a stint on the DL this month if he can't get healthy soon. Kevin Jepsen should continue to serve as the closer with Perkins being rested, and he should be owned everywhere.
