Giants | Hunter Pence may have normal offseason

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 05:08:44 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (oblique) should be able to begin his offseason workouts close to when he normally does this offseason, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Pence dealt with injuries throughout the season but should be ready to go for the 2016 season. Pence should continue to be one of the better players in the Giants lineup next season and could be a middle-round option in drafts.

Giants | Hunter Pence, others shut down

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 16:42:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants OFs Hunter Pence (oblique), Nori Aoki (concussion) and Gregor Blanco (concussion) and 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) have all been shut down for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With the Giants' postseason chances virtually gone, they'll play it safe and rest their injured stars. You can now safely drop all of them in redraft leagues if you haven't already.

Giants | Hunter Pence could return late this month

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 16:53:06 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (oblique) could return for the team's final homestand of the season in a best-case scenario.

Fantasy Tip: There's no reason to hang onto Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) for the small possibility that he'll receive a handful of at-bats later this month. Leave him to the waiver wire in all traditional formats.

Giants | Hunter Pence's season over?

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 16:55:42 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (oblique) will take dry swings Monday, Sept. 14. However, manager Bruce Bochy said it might be smarter to shut Pence down for the year at this point.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) returns and has a notable fantasy impact in the next few weeks. Drop him in traditional formats if you don't have the room and have other needs.

Giants | SF outfielders could be shut down

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 17:51:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said OFs Nori Aoki (concussion), Gregor Blanco (concussion) and Hunter Pence (oblique) could be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Fantasy Tip: This is contrary to what Bochy said about several of his ailing players two days ago. Of the three outfielders mentioned, Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appears to have the greatest chance of returning to action this season but it's likely that none of them will have a FantasyScore impact again until 2016.

Giants | SF won't shut down ailing players

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 17:06:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he will not shut down OF Nori Aoki (concussion), SS Brandon Crawford (calf, side) or OF Hunter Pence (oblique) for the remainder of the season, despite their health issues and the team's diminishing chances to win the division.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners should avoid using Aoki ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Crawford ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) and Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) for the foreseeable future. Even after they are cleared to play, it would be wise to allow them to play one or two games to prove that they are completely healthy before using them for daily lineups. Of the three, Crawford appears to be the closest to returning to action.

Giants | Hunter Pence placed on DL

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 22:58:10 -0700

The San Francisco Giants placed OF Hunter Pence (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 18, due to a strained oblique. The team is hopeful he can return by early September. With Pence sidelined, the Giants outfield consisted of OFs Gregor Blanco, Ryan Lollis and Justin Maxwell.

Fantasy Tip: With Pence back on the shelf Ryan Lollis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Justin Maxwell ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) are likely to see an increase in at-bats over the next couple of weeks.

Giants | Hunter Pence requires an MRI exam

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 15:19:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (oblique) will undergo an MRI exam on his left oblique Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) hasn't been able to stay on the field for any length of time this season and has played just 52 games. Check back for an official update before making any hasty roster decisions in seasonal formats, though.

Giants | No Hunter Pence vs. Cards

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 14:07:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 18. OF Ryan Lollis draws into the lineup and is playing left field and batting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to replace Pence ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) in your seasonal lineups and avoid him in daily contests Tuesday. The veteran is having a tough month and sports an underwhelming .227/.271/.439 slash line in August. Lollis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a worthy low-priced flier for FantasyScore players Tuesday, as he had a .861 OPS over 274 plate appearances at Class AAA Sacramento this season. It isn't an ideal matchup against Lynn ($8,200, 16.4% of cap), though.

Giants | Hunter Pence excels against Houston

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:39:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence is 12-for-31 with four home runs and eight RBI in eight games against the Houston Astros this year.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has been very productive for his fantasy owners when he's been on the field this year. However, lefties haven't been his cup of tea in 2015, as he's hitting only .242 (8-for-33) with one of his seven home runs against them this year. He's facing perhaps the hottest southpaw in baseball, too, in Scott Kazmir. Think about avoiding Pence tonight despite his good numbers against Houston.
