Cardinals | Kolten Wong out of Saturday lineup

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:38:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the lineup Saturday, May 28, against the Washington Nationals. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start and bat seventh against Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Wong gets the night off because of the lefty vs. lefty matchup. Although Gyorko has decent numbers in the past week and on the road, his numbers against the Nationals suggest you may be better off leaving Gyorko on the bench for the night.

Cardinals | Matt Adams out Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:50:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (back) is out of the starting lineup Saturday, May 28, for a second straight game. 3B Matt Carpenter will play first and lead off against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez, and 3B Greg Garcia will take Carpenter's spot at third and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has said he might be available for pinch-hit duty, which suggests the injury may not be serious. If so that's a good thing because back problems can cause hitters great headaches. Carpenter is worth mid-range consideration from the leadoff position, while Garcia carries little fantasy value.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez has rough outing

Mon, 23 May 2016 22:19:07 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez allowed seven runs on 10 hits in five innings against the New York Mets Monday, May 23, to suffer his second loss of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his nine starts this season but has allowed 12 runs in the other two games. He is scheduled to face the St. Louis Cardinals in his next start and should be a decent option in most leagues.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez has solid outing

Wed, 18 May 2016 20:48:18 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez allowed one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings against the New York Mets Wednesday, May 18, to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his first eight games this season and currently has a 1.86 ERA. He is scheduled to face the New York Mets again in his next start and should be a fine starting option in all leagues.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez hit in leg

Sat, 14 May 2016 05:10:48 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez (leg) was hit by a ball in the lower leg during the game against the Miami Marlins Friday, May 13, but was able to stay in the game. Gonzalez allowed two runs on six hits in five innings during the game. He struck out seven batters and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Gonzalez will be fine since he stayed in the game, but owners should keep an eye on the situation. He is scheduled to face the New York Mets in his next start and could be an attractive starting candidate in some daily fantasy leagues.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez getting ahead

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 10:49:47 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez has a career-high first-pitch strike percentage of 64.1% this year. Gonzalez has also improved his walk rate (6.8%) in his first four starts of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings. His improved control is certainly notable and could lead to a surprising year. It's still early, and a couple disaster outings could skew the numbers, but Gonzalez is worth watching for now and should be owned in shallow mixed leagues if he's still available.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez continues strong start

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 19:15:34 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out eight and walking one over six innings in a win over the Minnesota Twins Friday, April 22, and he has a 1.42 ERA after three starts with 20 strikeouts in 19 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is coming off a disappointing year by his standards, but he has been sharp thus far. He should be owned in all formats at this point, and he is worth a look in daily formats as long as his strikeout numbers remain impressive.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez shines in no-decision

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 14:33:10 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez was dominant for the second time in as many outings this season, yielding four hits and striking out eight against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has been extremely unlucky thus far, failing to win either one of his turns despite posting a 0.69 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. Look for that luck to change in the near future as his next scheduled starts come at home against Minnesota on Friday and against the Phillies on April 28.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez solid in debut

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 23:10:09 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez exhibited no rust in his first start of the regular season Tuesday, April 12, against the Atlanta braves. He allowed just three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings with four strikeouts in a no-decision and quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez last appeared on the mound in a Grapefruit League spring game in late March, but he showed no rust. It also helped he was facing the hapless Braves. Still, he remains a solid fantasy option in most formats for his strikeout potential.

Nationals | Gio Gonzalez finally set to debut

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 21:51:22 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez is set to make his regular season debut Tuesday, April 12, against the Atlanta Braves. He hasn't pitched in more than two weeks since his last appearance in a Grapefruit League spring game March 27.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez might be a little rusty, and surprisingly he has struggled against Atlanta. Since the start of the 2013 season he is 2-6 with a 4.53 ERA over nine starts against Atlanta, so DFS players might want to avoid him.
