Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said the plan for now is to keep SP Tanner Scheppers in the starting rotation, despite another rough outing against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, April 17. One inning has cost him in three of his four starts this season, and 17 of the 20 runs he's allowed have come in three innings. SP Nick Martinez is a candidate to enter the rotation if the team makes a change. SPs Nick Tepesch and Scott Baker are other options in the minors.
Fantasy Tip: The experiment with Scheppers as a starter could soon be coming to an end. His outing next week will likely determine his fate. There are better options out there on the waiver wire in mixed leagues right now.

The Texas Rangers signed free-agent SP Scott Baker (Mariners) to an undisclosed deal Wednesday, March 26, according to multiple reports.
Fantasy Tip: Due to multiple injuries to their starting staff, Texas was looking for some pitching depth and insurance. Baker can provide that. He's merely a short-term solution if they need him, though. He allows way too many fly balls to be successful in Texas.

The Chicago Cubs could still look to add to their stable of starting pitchers, but they've made it clear they won't go for one of the big remaining free-agent pitchers on the market, including free-agent SP Matt Garza (Rangers). Ps Justin Grimm, Kyle Hendricks and Chris Rusin could be candidates to compete for a rotation spot if nobody else is added. The Cubs also will not re-sign Scott Baker. Free-agent SPs Paul Maholm (Braves) and Jason Hammel (Orioles) have been linked to Chicago.
